Bill, no experience with snow equipment but why would you place the hyd tank on the fel bucket? It seems to me it would be on the rear of the tractor near the pto hyd pump. Then it could be used as counter balance and would have it nearer the pump as it pulls the oi. The distance for the pump to pull the oil might not be an issue.

If you make the habit of filling with fuel at the end of using it also solves the issue.

No idea where to tell you to find a manual or one near to it model wise. Based upon what others have posted here you may have pto that runs reverse to our standard and at different rpm (higher). You need to know on those if you use pto at all to prevent any issues.

Bill very glad to have you here and like the way you are chiming in. No idea if you are aware the date something is posted is just above the name of the poster. Don't let that stop you from hitting old threads though for have seen people come back and make comments following such. Again keep chiming in.

Do a search for blades with hyd cyls on them already and see what they are using. Would be a good starting point to me. Do post pictures. Might talk me into it also.

Certainly may be way wrong here and don't know JD tractors at all, been years since used the only ones ever have sat on. <br>

I would be surprised for the seat safety switch to cut off the engine on any tractor (unless it has to do with PTO also engaged). Prevent it cranking yes but not cut if off.<br>

Second the diesels I am familiar with not sure have the fuel cut off the way describe here. I read it as you push (or pull) the throttle to idle and then lower and it cuts the fuel. If misunderstanding apology already given. Now a separate "PULL" knob yes but not directly part of the throttle control for engine speed use. <br>

Look in the manual for manual or emergency shut off. If you don't find something there it may not have a manual cut off. If you find nothing in the manual or don't have a manual look very carefully at the dash and below it for a small knob that you have never used before. Normally they have to be pushed back in by hand. Many tractors use to have only that way to cut the engine and no electrical solenoid at all. <br>

If you must kill it and the air intake allows it place something that will prevent air flow through and it should cut right off. <br>

Again , no idea on this tractor but see if you can find the solenoid. Depending on the design there might be some linkage loose, limb or such jamming it preventing movement or a spring missing that pulls it shut. <br>

It was my practice when buying used farm equipment to check out the old ads as those who had not sold normally were easier to work with, or priced reasonable now. If he still has it 7 years later the price really ought to be fair at worst by now. As you said Dennis it is a soft market.

First not sure you can get any support on Long tractors now. The company that was Long pulled up and out leaving dealers and everybody with no support. There was talk of I think Montana buying them but not sure that happened. By support I mean parts. There are old Long dealerships still in business who can do the work.

As to the tractor they are a simple machine on the rough side compared to such as the US brands or Kubota. The hyd pumps run less capacity than comparable models of others brands when I looked at them about 1999. In short just older design than many other machines. In their older design not as comfortable nor as user friendly. Yet are tough machines and normally wear well.

Now my last recommendation was my first one, be sure on parts. The price on them dropped greatly when all this happened. I have a friend who was one of those dealerships left holding the bag. The last we talked nothing positive had happened with parts.

Not sure now which candidate on the Republican debate last week said something this line: there is the world economy, the US economy and then your local economy which is the most important to you.

Interesting about two weeks ago was talking with a pest control company. They said they were very busy and doing very well. Why? All the fears of bed bugs and houses siting vacant had them busy treating for those.

Have never even looked at a AWD system but thought safety was one advantage of due to quick turns or sudden bad road conditions. Is it only a simple traction advantage and only of value as switching to a 4 wheel drive?

One reason they never are stolen, right? Not being ugly about JD think that is mostly common in even tractors. Years ago know one heavy equipment company who used different ignition keys but all cab keys were the same as my camper key was. Those machines were higher price than any farm tractor.

Not familiar with Kubota mowers but would not thought one blade would back out and the others not. Does that blade rotate the opposite direction? Is it getting tight when installed?

Peter, a box blade does not rotate nor tilt only by use of leveling arm on tractor. It is good for moving dirt as it holds it in for dragging it. A blade (depending the blade) can be rotated and tilted such as on a road plow and will cut a ditch rolling the dirt away from it. It takes weight for traction, hp to pull and heavy blade to do that.

As to your question on the skid steer compared to loader/backhoe I have run those only enough to say have and not proficient with either to the point to answer your questions.

The quack digger, 10 ft, no idea what that implement is but don't think you have the tractor for a 10 foot wide anything.

If possible find you a farmer around you there who is willing to look at what you have or county agent or someone who knows drainage that will give you some guidance. In today's construction world hiring it done might be the least costly option for you and then it would be right. However I rather do it myself it possible. Feels good.

Bill depending on the blade you have you might be able to add mounts for cyl on the blade itself without buying a new blade.

Totally agree with Murf's recommendations there. If it will run at all would really try good carb cleaner at strong strength first. We did not take the steps he told it was always an issue. It would be allowed to sit for weeks on and at the time and taking the steps Murf outlined would have been wise.
