Treeman, got tickled at not trusting your wife with ZTR and I understand that if due to no experience. One of the first times my wife ran ours she went down a steep ditch at her Mom's. However the first time I cut with ZTR went down that same ditch the same place. Think my wife or I will 99% of the time manage to cut to the bark on a tree with out any bumping. That is with about four years running ZTR for 1 to 3 yards depending on the family. We have been very pleased with ZTR and would not consider anything else at this point. THAT being said realize not for everyone nor every lawn. Bout like straight drive transmission...great if you know how to use them and like them.

I believe all the wells I have looked at here the pressure switch is located near the pressure tank if a submersible unit if not they are located on the pump. Of course not much is 100% set up 100% of the time.

On my tractor recently had problem cranking but when cranked the lights ran well when switched on to test. Turned out to be bad connection on one end of a batter cable. Not sure how that might show up on charging light.

Jeff can not address much of what you said about the different brands but here for a good while Bobcat was the only mini excavator or at least 80% but not near that as many more Kubotas and Cat. As the Cat is the standard yellow as is the Kolbeco and JD how much of those two brands there are but some. The Bobcat dealership is on side of major highway and was very visible then the raised the road and now they are almost hidden to the point not even sure if they handle the tractors. The last time I paid any attention they did not have the stock of excavators as either Cat or Kubota.

It has been a long time since I was around one working but the smell is not of new leather as I remember it. Now the exhaust might be sort of like some engines are. The one thing I do remember from the experience was a good one was a big help and easy to work with.

Well my only other thought and bet you have done this...lube the linkage very well. No idea what the linkage is like but some linkage will rust or corrode very easy. Have that issue with one of my tractor's life levers.

Why would the serial number tag be missing?

Assume this tractor is totally new to you. Any idea if it did this with previous owner? Does your fuel filter have a glass bowl where you can see the fuel? If so when it cuts off is there fuel in it or not? I had about same thing to happen and there was a wasp in my fuel tank. It would get sucked over the fuel outlet tube and as the tractor set the suction would loosen and it would float up. It sounds as if something is doing about same to you. The other thought I have but doubt it is could the air filter been almost clogged and it is collapsing and cutting off the air or could there be an insect nest in the air supply or even a piece of plastic?

Five must be your number, grandson and levers. :) My oldest grandson is now 7 and at 5 he sure loved tractors.

Seriously 5 levers, that should be enough. If you have that many my thoughts are (probably wrong):
At least one for PTO. If there is a PTO shaft on the front of the transmission then 2 pto levers.
One to select 2 or 4 wheel drive.
One for low or high range.
One to select which gear.

Guessing here but think you will find that to be correct. It is also my guess you can use 4 wheel drive in either range and use either range in 2 or 4 wheel drive. Then it might only allow low range and 4 wheel drive as a combo.

A few questions here: what are you use the tractor for in the 10 or so minutes when it runs hot? If using PTO could you be running the engine at too low rpm and if pulling something could you be in too high a gear or again running engine rpm too low? Sure the brakes are releasing and no wheel bearing bad to place drag in it? Don't miss the air filter, if it needs changing it can cause the engine to run hot. This should be a very quick check.

Seems you have good suggestions. You can also use an amp meter to know if the glow plugs are pulling current and thus working if you have one and might be able to feel a temp difference with your hand. But my first guess is you did not use the glow plugs. No idea what turns them on your engine as the method does vary but try to find out what method they use. A phone call to a Kioti dealership should give you that answer in a minute or two.

Ken, tractor dealer who I bought the battery from told me when told him what happened he had seen that before but no idea on what kind of boards. It makes sense in a way the issues with the control panel not working was voltage related for it did vary with how long the machine had been setting and thus the strength of the battery and when it did not come up properly it almost always did by the time it was allowed to warm a few minutes if run at fast idle which of course would have raised the voltage by then a little at least.

Jeff, it might be happen so but since the problem has gone away with the new battery I am glad to give it the credit. As to your taste in food...be careful any link sausage you eat, you never know what the casing is!

Are you sure the battery is not drained? You or someone else could have left lights on. Did you try jumping it?

The biggest problem to me with a starter not cranking one is when it is bogged down and off. That can be a pain.

Years ago had a bad solenoid on an outboard engine and it was very costly. As I looked at it thought, sure looks like a Ford auto solenoid. Same for much lower price.

Just as I sent my message above a thought hit me but certainly not likely for two of you, by chance could someone else be adding water to the oil trying to damage your Gator?
