Tombstones here will run from a couple thousand up as you add design and such. Price also varies as it does with most products from source. So price shop. Also beleive it or not you can find used one, well maybe not used but ones that were engraved and then for some reason are for sale. Did not pay for them, name spelled wrong or they upgraded. They can cut the old name off but, sometimes they bleed back through! My impression depends on holw long it was subject to the elements to absorb through the old lettering. kt<br>

Frank, I have seen the same sad things you mentioned. I have had to make those decisions and it is now my generation as your that needs to be doing such. You are wise in the steps you are taking.

Ken, Murf, is the front tire so hard to break loose from the rim he could not do that and replace the valve stem with the tire still on the tractor? I have never broke loose a lug tire that small but would think he should be able to with large rubber hammer. Then he would have access to both sides of the rim to clean it or replace the valve stem. kt

Many bearings are industry standard and easy to match if you have the old bearing with a readable number on it. I suspect some other company may have tines that will work on your tiller also, take one with least amount of wear to a local tractor dealership until you find a shop who has them or who can order. kt

I have run both ag and contrustion tires a good bit on compact and larger tractors on lawn with little damage by the rear tires unless the ground was very wet. Front tires in 4 wd or turning real sharp very quickly will damage as the front tires slip and dig into the ground.

Realize the type of grass and ground all affect this and what works here may not for another. kt

You may wish to check the valve stem very easy to see where it is leaking from. Could be the inside part was not tighten and some valve stems have a screw on valve body. It is also possible the valve has a piece of trash prevent it seating fully. Those should be simple, cut valve stem different. kt

Melonman, missed seeing you here. There is a large melon growner in my area. They do not plant seeds in the field or not what I have seen of them, they set out plants. Right off not sure if they used a tobacco setter or by hand. I think they use tobacco setter as they can set a 10 acre field while I am at work. Setting out plants gets you to market a good bit earlier. If you have access to the older style tobacco setter you can set out plants or plant seeds. Depending on how much you are planting they can be real handy. As far apart as watermelons are planted one person on the setter could drop seed or plants at a good tractor ground speed.

How safe you can be using the cable system they do to pull the logs up the hills? I do understand the need for speed.

Seems they use air horns to signal when the logs are ready to pull, just how well can operator hear with the diesel running that pulls the logs or those running chain saws. I know at times they are out of sight. Not sure if they use a certain number of blast to signal different things.

Logs are being pulled up hill and it would be duck quick if it came loose (yes have seen the main cable snap) woe to those down hill from it. Seems it is one of the owners which has a long list of such injuries with his artificial hand.

Those above are major and not easy to change am sure. But no one wears eye protection or face protection. They do wear metal hard hats. Sort of understand no ear protection as they have to hear cables snapping, coming loose, moving through the brush and across trees. Also signal blast and such.

We just had a few acres cut and the difference between those guys and the local guys operations is amazing. Being very fair, we don't have hills and surely don't have mountains. But we have swamps. Amazing what those skidders can pull through. They also were not so close to each other that one's action could have a major impact on another.

How quick those guys are having to jump clear when the cable is tighting up is unreal and when a log is beginning to be pulled sometimes it will surprise you how it moves and what all it moves.

BTW, it has been discussed here before on how to sharpen a chain on a saw, this past Sunday night he used a hand file on probably a 36 or longer bar. Probably was more of a touch up than a full sharpening.

Murf, ever since seeing "Deadlist Catch", the price of crab has no complaints by me.

I do notice on both of these they are really running at speeds that is hard to maintain safely for any period of time. Wonder how much camera affects that if any. kt

If you have chains and turnbuckles I would agree with Murf you probably can have them too tight if you tighten them 100%. At the same time Ford years ago had what they called sway chains on their lift arms and then solid and I mean solid stablizers with no slack at all other than a very little in the pin holes. It is a good idea to at engine idle operate your lift watching to be sure your stabliers are NOT binding if you have any doubt as their being too tight. kt

I did not find the model you are asking about right off, but go to Kubota.com and on the left look under products. They list most if not all past models and also the gray market models.

Based upon my own Kubota experience I think you will find it to be about 30 to 32 eng hp. kt

Otis, I have never used a MMM but agree with what "auerbach" had to say about them.

If you are cutting lawns, you need a mower to give a finish cut. Rather I will say you MUST have a finish mower to give a finish cut. Depending on the overgrowth you may be able to cut it with a finishing mower and not harm the mower if more or less just overgrown grass and no trees or shrubs. If so take it slow and with the mower raised and then in a few days cut it again a little lower and so forth until it suits you.

I have used both a RFM and Flail mower and will say quickly the flail mower has advantages but it sure had disadvantages. It's advantage to me was it does not throw something like a rotary mower can or will. However if you run it with the roller in contract with the ground as I was told to you can not turn without either lifting it or damaging the truf. At least with my mower and tractor combo that was the case. The other part was the flail mower's cut look like a lot of little rows when viewed in line with the direction the tractor ran. My mower was a finish cut flail mower per the company that sold it. My wife looked at it and quickly said....NO and I agreed. The cut would make you think the cutters were not straight, but had 45% angles but there did not. This was the only flail mower I have ever used on my lawn so it may have been it or me. Have used one a goob bit on rough cutting and like them there very well.

If you decide on a RFM, they make both a side and a rear discharge. I wish I had bought the rear discharge so I could cut close on either side.

Almost forgot, your lawn grass, are you able to cut it with a rotary mower now or is the grass so fine you need a reel mower? kt

Joe, I am with Ken, not sure of the set up on Gator brakes but I have had to use a "C" clamp to pull the pistons back into the cyl for clearance on disk brakes before. Be sure you system is not sealed if you do so as there will be fluid needing to escape. kt

leejohn, I did about the same on my scrape blade. Had a dropped down set of pin mounts added and put Cat 2 lift pins there for my CAT 2 and left the Cat 1 where factory put them for my Cat 1. Sure made that easier. kt<br>

Forgot above, I have the Cat 1 pins turned out and the Cat 2 turned in so they do not catch lift arms when using the other set of pins.<br>

Ken, in my part of the world gravel is used very little for roads. At one time I had gravel spread over a crushed seashell driveway. Had real problem with that moving around. There is a plant near here that makes a steel wire. They have a good bit of waste from their foundary that is used for such. It worked much better than the gravel did. That slag would catch on the other pieces and not slide very easy where stone would. No problem with it cutting tires. We sold that place May of 2000 and do not think they have redressed the drive since then. kt

Murf, last Friday I went to renew farm liabilty policy. One question they asked me still had my wondering until I read your post above. "Do you store any fuel for plane, tractor and whatever else was the list." Liabilty is the issue, not the fire hazard as I was thinking. kt

Many do not know they are different grade bolts (also nuts)and some have no idea how to tell the difference if they know. For standard bolts there are dashes on the head of the bolt to identify the grade. The common grade (2 or 3) has no dashes, the other grades has them and you ADD two grades to the number. So a grade 5 has 3 dashes and grade 8 has 6. (Metric is different.) If you are using them for the shear load the nut may not be that important but if you are using the for a load pulling agains the threads but sure you use at least as high as grade nut. <br>

Probably not always but often you can look at the bolts very closely and tell the metal in the common grade bolt does not look as fine a grain as the higher grade bolts does. Not sure you can depend on it but my memory is all the common or grade two bolts I have seen are silver in color while often the grade 5 and 8 are not. But that is why the head it mark, to remove the guess work.<br>

BTW, the troque value is much higher on the higher grade bolts. So is the shear load. The info below I copied for one of many web sites where you can get more details. kt<br>

Brian, if you have them made, you may wish to have a few extra made especially if you will be who saws them to the proper thickness as the set up on this size job will be a big part of the cost. Sooner or later you will loose one. kt
