EW, I did think about using air but wondered about draining the lines and all the fittings you would end up loosing or I think you would. To me, a none leaking fitting is something NOT to bother.

blacksmith, too many years back to be 100% sure but if memory is correct my father in law's old Ford had an adjustment screw to adjust for worn gears in the steering gear box. It was located at base of steering column.

I would following on Joel's suggestion and have some one work the steering wheel back and forth with the tractor sitting still while you look for the point where the linkage goes from quick response to sloppy response. kt

You should be able to find enough left hand drill bits at the better hardware stores or automotive parts stores for your need. Might want to start with automotive stores as they are realative common to remove broken bolts. There are also tools with different head designs to engage those damage heads. Can you get a very thin pry bar with a "V" in the end of it behind the boards to slip around the threads to give the screws something firm to back out against? kt

Acerguy, I thought of you today as I was using my Kubota with manual trans that had a gear to go out in the trans as less hours than your JD had on it. I would ask that shop their opinion on the hours on the tractor. I would also consider having them look over the machine while there. kt

First I hope you have this fixed by now.
We have a gas Gator that did run rough and could have been flooding, I beleive it was due to the fuel gelling. It would sit for a month or two some times without being used. It did not seem to matter using a gas stablizer. Found the solution was to use it more often and harder than the easy pace my wife was driving it.

BTW, where in SC are you?

Dennis, adding to your comments, as an insurance agent that is why I ask those who have such experience to report that to their State Dept of Ins. It at least may prevent someone else having the same heart ache.

Probably each of us has had events in 2007 that hurt our hearts. We also probably had events that blessed our souls. Our building industry has taken a hit as has home loans. I lost love ones and celebrated the birth of my second grand child sit here, just a few days until we celebrate my savior's birth and think how blessed I really am. Kangaro, County Agents here (South Carolina) seems all take vacation in the fall and early winter. I needed to ask a question and all with 20 plus years (had time to take off) were off for about 3 counties. Makes sense they are very busy when getting ready for crop and then when it is growing.

As to the guy not calling you back, could something be happened to him? Sick or such. Could be the way God is protecting you from his ability? Since no one has called you back, do you have a way for them to leave a message or you on the phone all the time as my brother in law is and can not be reached by phone?

As Lwayne has pointed out, keep trying.

There is another possibility but based upon your comments here do not think that is it, then it could be...how you communicate with these people. Some times it can be just the fact you are not from there and some areas just don't like people who are different or have moved into their area or who are being successful where they failed.

Christmas can be a good time to make friends...get you a few boxes of cookies or such (does not have to cost much) and take the time to visit a few when you can spend just a few minutes with them. It use to be when a new person moved into the area those living there visited them. Then it got to where we had so many moving in here who did not like to be friendly most locals quit this. Now it takes much longer to meet them and be neighbors. Could be what you are up against. Then those who move in and make any effort here are very well welcomed.

Kangaro, I am upset at myself for just thinking of this. I have not gone back to look and if already covered forgive me. When you bought this land, did you get to meet the person or people who owned it? If possible have you talked to them about it? If they had it long and knew it, they may can provide you with much valuable information. If they are not, take a box of cookies or such and go talk to the people who own land joining it. Ask them about the land and share with their your goals. You will be amazed how much if they worked their land, they know about the land next door.

Dennis, I like the location part you added.

It would seem for a person to be able to post something as stolen they would have to give some way to identify them quickly to verify it. I do like that idea. Not sure which site it is but an auction site that is suppose to allow you to do a serial number search there to see if they ever sold it. That seems good. Not trying to suggest such should be here. Just what another site does.

It has not hit stations here that I am aware of but those I have seen it at have been about 30 or so cents per gallon less. Has that changed or was it never lower in other areas?

On the premium mileage to lower rated gas, my wife's care does not get any better mileage with premium. Shocked me. So as I think Murf said, TEST it.

Tom, I did not say your unit was poor design. Said I hoped it worked better than what you wrote. Ask someone to read what you posted and then tell you what it says. I read it for a couple of days that you had a bolt broken off or "wrung" off in your power steering unit. That was why I asked you for more info.

I have no problem with people who do from home designs. Know there are others here who have done them their self. Method of approach affects attitude. As Joel said, this is not my site either. It surely is not my call to say your posting was proper or not. Sorry my comment came across totally negative. Would suit me if there was a way (there may be already) for such to be posted and available for feedback on an on going basis. For sale or not. Such as the giant log splitter someone here has made.

Is this a Hydrostat transmission? If so have you checked your hyd fuild level? Also, is it due or pass due for filter and oil change? Pass this have no idea what these have in common if all stopped at one time unless they have some kind of electric switch and you have a loss of power due to blown fuse or cut wire.
