I looked carefully at NH before I bought my compact Kubota. I am very peased with my two Kubota's. But I would not take the hit you will to make the trade. My two cents. kt

Doc, you will find there is more than one tool to do most any job. You will find most implements can be used for more than you thought and as you use it you will learn how to do more with it. You will find the most proper implement normally will do the work faster or easier but that does not mean you can not get as good or at least very suitable results with a different implement.

One commnet on rear blade that they do not do as well in moving dirt as does a box blade due to it not having ends on it allowing dirt to spill around it. I agree with that but just for info there is at least one company who offers bolt on ends for rear blade making it better for moving dirt. You can adjust a rear blade to where it will cut a ditch, or roll hard dirt and such I don't think you can do near as well if possible as with a BB. However, for most people and with a small tractor believe the BB is better option. Unless you will have additional need for tiller or such really believe you can do what you want with BB and time. You may be forced to take it little by little but that equals seat time! You can always buy bigger but that does not mean it makes sense for YOU. kt

kwschumm, was looking at some of your pictures and noticed one of the chipper was very hard to read. Then realize it had "not for sale" all over it. Was it your picture that showed up on ebay of a piece of equipment for sale? Also if not a secret, how did you do that? kt<br>

Dennis, I would like more topics to show as "ACTIVE". Might be good also if it only listed as active if something were posted to in say in the last 2 days. To me seems there would be a time limit on any posting to remain even anywhere. You can have a very serious tractor topic and someone like me can ask a question that is casual but lots of replys bumping the other off.

As to font size, they are fine for me. I think KW is correct on some of the topic titles. I really don't understand the value of those. I do think they sometimes keep a question from being posted as the topic just does not fit. Searching for a thread sometimes is difficult as you need to know the title or someone who posted in it and search it that way. I do like a product review say of the month of such as you have asked a time or two on products I have seen advertised here. Spell check just for me to make EW happy. kt

Postman, the issue is am I better off with a new tractor of this brand or a used one of a major brand it seems. With either repairs are to a point unknown. You may wish to look at used and if so would suggest the link below. It list many machines and you can search it about it way you wish by brand, location and so forth. My experience is many of those listings are Companies and not individuals such as with ebay. Again, based upon my limited experience expect some price flexing but not a lot. kt

It would seem if any lifting device were built so it would turn loose a load use the concrete in EW example without warning that could be dangerous. Sure would make it important to let nothing of value ever be under the load.

I do not understand how, if you are using the bucket curl pushing against a hyd or fixed linkage thumb would be any different as to possible damage. If the hyd setup had the ability to have more force than the bucket curl and that was used, that I can understand the difference.

Well three questions..
1) any brand(s) or companies anyone suggest:
2) saw a site that offered a thumb to meet the edge of the bucket and one to slip inside the bucket: thoughts
3) still wondering about a bolt on set up. Have seen one or two that bolt around the boom sort of like leaf springs and saw one that must have bolted into the bottom of the boom. Could not understan that last one unless you drill and thread the boom which I don't think would be good.

EW, realize you may not have a frost free model yet but they use a fan to move the air over the cooling coil(s). Here when air is pushed we often call it being pumped. It you rather think of it as a gentle breeze that is fine with me.

Hardwood, ..first try "FEBREZE". It is made to kill orders in the air.
There is a pan under the unit the melted ice runs or drips to. They can give off an order but should not show up inside, rather in the room. That being said, there could be a simple rubber or such gate to stop the air from coming it and it be missing or damaged.

Check with a company who treats for mold. They may have a chemical that you are not able to buy.

Other option is one you have already worked with, since you are there and then back home, spray it down good...fill it up with charcoal and baking soda and leave it running. Sooner or later what ever is rotting giving off the foul order will finally rot. Of course that may happen faster if it was off in a warm room with the doors open. Not my suggestion. kt

Hardwood, I suspect if you will take EW on with "knowledge" he will abort.

I have been able to come close enough with the HST for some spraying such as round up that has a wide tolerance range and for somethings such as broadcasting where you were able to run back over it if need be but to keep a certain ground speed and make turns and such...I am not that talented unless it just happens to be with full forward pedal position.

Of course for spraying guess you could use a ground driven pump and that might work. I only use PTO pumps. kt

Are you wanting plans or to buy one? There was one on ebay just yesterday. Look under "THUMBS" in the Business area. I have seen a few doing an internet search of "THUMBS". Guess the company that builds one also builds the other a big part of the time. kt<br>

I am with Hardwood on Cat "0" experience but seems you either have linkage not adjusted correctly, something preventing your lift lever or arms from fully lowering such as even a stick, or using wrong attachement points on the blade. If the lift works fine with everthing else, is it possible there is something amiss with the blade such as it is bent? kt

I have used a rope pulley system to cut trees with good results. I have used a 7000 or so pound tractor to pull trees while cutting. Using a long enough cable to have tractor just about in the next county with good results. I have used four wheel drive pickup same way again with good results. I have used Nissian pickup in same way with sad result of hitting my Mom's house takinng out a storm window. (really little damage but to my ego.) It comes down to something I think EW hit on, the weight of the machine you will be using compared to the tree, the leverage due to how high you hook on the tree, the angle of the tree, the wind, the way the stump is cut. I totally agree I do not want to be near a cable if it were to snap or come loose loaded. That can be fatal. When using cable with a tractor have always used chain between tractor and cable to help limit this danger. I also do not like the idea of winch on the 3 pt hitch due to the sudden movement it could have unless you have it locked down. Think fixed draw bar would be safer. kt
