The amount a rear mounted 3 point hitch blade will cut into any dirt will vary with how hard the dirt is but also the weight of the blade and the angle it is set at. A heavy blade set at an angle will cut into dirt that a lighter blade set straght will just slide over. Look at how motor graders set their blades on hard packed dirt roads. A landscape rake will level even dirt and move more of it than you would think. If you have roots or stumps of size, move slow with a blade.

It is a shame when you can get in more trouble for killing such than a person. Of course tractor with bush cutter will not run fast enough to turn sharp enough to play cowboy either.<br>

If I might add to Hardwood's suggestions, you may be able to burn the grass off to where you can work the ground. Roundup or such requires growing plant to work on. My guess is it is not growing currently.

I agree with him totally on you may find this much slower than you want depending on the amount you plan to work. If you are wanting many acres, I suggest you hire a farmer each year to disk it. Probably for the cost of the tiller or disk will cover that cost for a few years. Depending on the purpose of the food plots, if for hunting you may can trade hunting for the disking.

The best shooting 22 I ever shot was a Winchester pump. Henry was making a copy of it. I have a tube feed Winchester auto that has been good for me. The auto has only shot long rifles, have no idea on longs or shorts. Don't think shorts would work in it. You have not mentioned it but assume you are shooting right handed. I don't, for that reason do not like most of the auto 22's even the one I have. Depending on where you are shooting, I like guns that eject down. Shame is where I live shooint such is dangerous.

How big is the line you want to run? If you are not talking about something very large a single shank subsoiler will work if you don't have a large amount of roots or rocks. If the pipe is flexible enough and small enough you can weld a pipe or such to the subsoiler to pull the water line to the bottom of the trench and do all in a single pass. Of course the HP required and the strenght of the subsolier will depend on the soil and what is in it. The above suggestions work well also especially for large pipe or with the rocks and roots. Used single shank subsoiler can be found for $75 or so.

Maybe I missed it but, are the newer off road and ag type engines now made for low sulpher fuels? If so any idea how long ago they were being built that way? Using the term "older" to me means longer than to a 20 year old.

If you use the diff. lock you need to be sure you engage it and disegage it properly. Not sure on your tractor but some require a full stop to engage or disengage. Have had to reverse direction just a little to release the differential lock. kt<br>

The combine reminds of story told here, could be true as part of it really is: snow hit I 95, at that time our state had no snow removal equipement in the area of I 95 in some areas some farmers took their farm equipement and were pulling people out. One person pointed out how expensive his Caddy was while the farmer was hooking a chain to it. As the farmer listened he also unhooked the chain and told the person with no manners don't worry about your $25,000 Caddy being damaged by my $60,000 tractor. This was about the mid 80's I think. COuld have been a little earlier.

Yes Sir and Yes Mamm are still in style in my house and for me worth a lot along with "Thank you".

As to heating your shop, it seems it would depend on how often it will be heated, how big or is the area open and such. I have used wood heater and have to install a gas radiant heater. They are in ceiling or wall mounted styles and they direct the heat so you can be warm without the air having to be heated.

EW, figure the cost you need or want per hour for your machine for the normal business. Then figure what you need per hour for a job for a true friend, (like SG). Then when you are asked such you can quickly reply, my normal rate is ... but since you are friend it will only be ... If you do that right when asked it probably will not cause any hard feelings. Another approach that works very well is; thank you for asking, it really is an honor you are considering hiring me (or asking for a free favor), sure wish I could do it. But due to work load or due to my policy of not mixing business with friends I just can not. Something else that works is stop telling people it is your equipment, rather it belongs to so and so and they keep track of the hours, milege or such and there is just no way you can make it work. Now, so you don't lie, set up a LLC company or such and let "your" company own it.

Have a new neighbor that needed his yard "bush hogged" as the house had sat vacant for about 3 years. He asked me what I would charge and my reply was he did not have enough to hire me. Now, what kind of neighbor are you going to be and I may do it for free. Guess he fits as a good neighbor, have not seen him since I did the work about 4 months ago, not even a thank you. Outsiders! No manners! Almost as bad as the ones who grew up here. :)

Billy, just how big is your county? Sure it is not Texas? Just kidding. (Very much understand you are not arguing, never thought you were, hope you realize neither am I.) I thought we had a lot of timber here and we do but a lot of what we see now is land being cleared for houses. As to truck tires and rocks...have had my windshields cracked by them more than once. Some body here does a good job on being sure dump trucks are tarped, have no idea who's regulation but the fine is rather stiff so I was told by a driver. Not sure where SG lives but we have a lot of log and pulp wood trucks and on top of that a lot of autos so the trucks are running with the autos and if something comes loss,oh well. Here they are chipping more and more of the pulp in the field which has helped a lot. Probably most of it is chipped before being hauled. Unless they forget to close the flow through vents, then stay back. kt

Duke, near me there was a farm supply store that had a dozen or more of those tractors. Sold fast at first them problems hit. He did not have service and I was told there was at least one lawsuit. Not sure of that nor the details. A Kubota dealer a mile from him, brought in some of the grey market and don't think they have sold for him. If they have they are moving very slow. Now his prices are always higher than most anyone else.

As to fixing up and selling name brands, had a dealer tell me there was money in that if you were doing so with tractors of the age of those who wanted gardens. Meaning you wanted to deal with tractors from the era of the tractors being new at the time those you would be selling to were using them. Mental connection, seems to work with cars also.

The effort to protect equipment has been discussed here, possibly before you joined. You might find a good solution there. I am posting Lo Jack link for construction equipment. Would pay to be sure it works there. (they show coverage areas) There are real time GPS units used on trucks so companies can know where they are all the time. Gives speed and shows them on a map. The units like that I have seen are very visible and how easy it would be to disable have no idea. <br>

It seems here, if it is ag tires on an ag tractor they are filled. Probably not 100% true, but how is a person to really know if they need the tires filled if they don't test the tractor doing the job(s) they want it to? I know when you at talking buying a tractor they will ask if you want the tires filled and with what before they give you a price. Can understand they want to fill them at dealership versus in the field. Makes me think a lot get filled that may not need it. From what little I know it seems if the tractor is doing heavy pulling especially on dirt, fill the tires for traction.
