I had the wrong Farm. I was thinking Farmtrac and did not think it was Chinese.

Knew it did not look like it was compare to all Chinese tractors I had seen. (okay about 3 in person)

That is good, but did they lock down mulch in the other gulf coast states hit by Katrina that also could have the same problem?

For those of us who have fire ants that came in through New Orleans port many years ago we are not comfortable. No doubt Louisiana is better at keeping mulch in than getting people out.

Your second line on the safety hits part of what I am not getting said, they may look a lot like but what little I have been able to compare that are missing such as you pointed out.

I know my bigger Kubota is a good tractor esp for the price it was. It was a few thousand less than Case or JD when I purchased it. Yet in a full comparision it was not the same in features. It should have cost some less and I was willing to accept not having those features for the lower price.

Now since then I have found some of those features would be nice and the cost to add them ...well it requires Kubota orginial parts.

So when someone says I can buy so and so brand so much lower it often means they are giving up something. It may or may not be important to them or they may not even be aware of the difference. Often it shows up in repair cost, life of the product or down time.

A couple of lines I learned years ago, there is a reason a brand name is a brand name and you will always pay for what you get.

Hey, I sometimes make the decision, I will not use this enough to pay for good quality, just need cheap.

As to same key being used by all Kubota's that may be true within a model or such as the series but I have two different serises of Kubota and the keys are very different.

We discussed recently different things we can do to protect our tractors and wonder if anybody took any action more than they had already, I did not.

I worked for a large heavy equipement manf for years. We did not use the same key for the igniation but the door key was different matter. It was 501 or 503 key. If you have one they fit all kinds of doors from heavy equipment to campers.

Jack, watch for the front end loader and tractor to be sold seperatly. Esp if it goes to ebay. By same token, if they keep it and add backhoe to it the looks change a lot.

I had a sister that worked very hard and make it to a very high level in the US Fed Government.

It was sad. She really developed the ability to take a little truth and hide a none truth in it. Made me understand DC much better. Was very disappointing.

I had office once that had problems with electronics going out all the time, some even with surge protectors on them. Lady working me had worked for local power company and said get the surge protector that goes between meter and base. It solved the problem. If your power company has them they must install them.

I agree with the advice Peters and Greg have also given.

In my area tillers are used very little. I find it amazing it will go deeper faster than disk. In my soil which has some clay my disk will cut about 3 inches with grass on it on first pass. If no grass but light crop stuble will cut 6 or more inches on first cut and about 9 inches or so on following pass as deep as my disk is set to go). Now, a light weight disk probabably is slower than tiller on grass.

If you are spreading manure that is fresh, you will need to pay attention to weed seeds in your feed and hay. All may not, but a good amount will pass through a horse's system unharmed. That is a benefit of letting the manure compost until the heat in it builds up enough to kill the seeds. I would want to be sure this was not uphill or upstream.

As to the tractor sales person being high pressure. In my experience get away from the dealerships the urban types buy with or the construction person is using. The locals ones here that deal in that market are more hard sell and they don't understand your need the same. I would suggest at least visit dealerships in farming area if possible. Then do so during the week and not weekends. If they are even open on a Saturday they usually don't have the time to take with you properly. I am very fortunate in that I have meet the bad kind but knew it in minutes but more so have meet and dealt with some very helpful ones that really knew their equipment and gave great advice. Those often use the equipment themselves or their family does.

Could you have ground hornets there recently due to having cut trees who's stumps have rotted out giving holes for the hornets?

That is where I had them at my yard.

As to the vacumm cleaner, I have no doubt that would work but I am like you. May I suggest you don't have it on, push the hose to the mouth of the nest, RUN and then plug it in.

I don't disagree with Murf but subsoiler will leave less distrubance than middle buster or should. I have a friend that says he has put down a lot of water lines just connecting them to subsoiler and letting it pull them into the trench it is making. Said it works very well. I have used subsoiler for water and electric lines and been able to take something without sharp edge and push the line down very well. If you do this with electricty be sure it is deep enough for code there.

Murf, how does a Canadian know about rice farming? I know little and I live on the edge of the old rice growing area of the Colonies. Those old rice fields are flooded even now. Suppose to be some of the best fishing and duck hunting there is. Guess ducks and fish really have good taste.

You have already found some here think as much of their tractor as their first born.

I have two Kubota's a B and a M. I have a friend with JD another with NH (there is no Ford). No doubt we each are happy.

The first tractor I even purchased the salesman got under my skin when he pushed me on what I wanted to do. He would only talk very general about tractor until he got details on my needs. Then he worked back to the tractor. Was one of the most professional sales people I have ever known and I am in sales. Start with you wants and needs and let the equipment direct you. Regardless of the tractor you wll not like it if it will not handle the equipment you end up needing.

It was really funny reading this post until I hit Mike's. Even what we as man think is a long life, it is only a vapor. You are only able to enjoy this life when you have prepared to leave it.

Why do all of us complain about our spouses (wife for me), cause we love them. Someone who means nothing to you may irrate you in traffic or such but that is so fleeting. I fully believe you miss a person in direct relationship to how much they meant to you.

As to the tissue, give or buy a very pretty holder for tissue to match each bathroom. Fill it once and guess what, that often works.

I must ask Iowafun, now just why were you squated down looking for a pot anyhow?

As to keeping the gorilla glue and tisse paper seperate, makes good sense to me.

I like good humor, it is by far better here than the Comedy Channel. Bet you guys have better "you might be a redneck" stories than Jeff F every thought of. Don't imagine he reads here do you?

If we look at construction sites what they do with their equipment gives some thoughts. They always leave backhoes with the hoe down. I like to have a heavy piece of equipement lowered and the front of the tractor pulled up to something like barn or big tree.

How about a simple switch to break the circuit to the starter? Then a set of jumper cables over rides that.

My CUT has one built in. I need to adjust my PTO lever. In it's fully release postion it engages the safety switch. I have to push it fully into the disconnect postion. With two PTO levers, and the shifter lever; a stranger to that tractor would have to try a lot of combinations to find it. Probably biggest reason I have not adjusted the switch.

Per Kioti's web site your tractor is just over 10 feet without fel or backhoe (with ag tires). That is with 3 point hitch.

Jim,

I think it has been suggested here to go to the brand of tractor such as JD you are looking at with serial number and they can sometimes tell you who it belongs to or if it is reported stolen.

Recently there was a post here by someone who had bought a stolen tractor. I think you will find more advice on this also yet given. If not ask on another thread so it is noticed.

Have joy with your tractor and be careful.
