I wouldn't be surprised if the loader is capable of lifting a lot more than it is rated for. The load rating is contingent on a host of factors: hydraulic output, bypass valve setting, max cylinder pressure, tractor frame strength, loader arms and frame, front tires, axle and steering system, counterbalance, etc. The list goes on and that's just in a static state, then you have to look at dynamic factors. Point being: there's a significant safety factor built in to the design and the rating is based on the lowest common denominator. Take the load rating with a grain of salt. Use your head; just be safe.

I can't understand why there is debate on this issue. The lift height is right there in the spec sheet on the Kubota website. If there's any question, just take your truck over to the dealer for a "test load". It's that simple.

The fact is the BX series will load ANY pickup truck except for the International CXT which isn't really a pickup anyway. The B7510/7610 and larger CUTs won't load a truck any "better" than a BX, maybe just a little faster.

IMHO the sub-CUT bashing has got to stop. As long as a sub-CUT is used within its design limitations, they are great little machines. In fact, I think they are so good at what they can do, many people start to expect them to do the same amount of work as larger CUTS and are dissappointed when they fall short. (no pun intended)

I think the Kubota rep was probably stating average length of "ownership" not necessarily the life expectancy of the tractor, much like the automakers. The average ownership of a car is only 3-4 years, so they design around that number but obviously cars typically last much longer. I know my uncle just replaced the fuel tank (not expactly a super common replacement part) on his '85 L2250 and they were able to get the part without any trouble.

Thanks for the follow up report. I always like to read about a technique someone has used or about various successes and failures. The people on this board have certainly saved me lots of time and headache!

I might be doing a similar patio project of my own at some point in the near future so I've been following this thread closely to see how other people have done similar work.

I'd be interested to know about the raised chrome badging vs. the decal as well. Mine is a 2003 with just the decals which are beginning to peal off. I was thinking about replacing them with the new version but if there are problems with it, I might not.

Bad customer service is a BIG pet peave with me. Good customer service is so easy to do, doesn't have to cost much, and has the potential to net higher revenues, yet it is so hard to find sometimes. It never fails to amaze me over how little some people are willing to give up a customer. It is almost always more expensive to attract a new customer than it is to retain an existing one, and it only takes one bad experience to drive one away. Case in point: I drive past a dealer every day on my way to and from work, but I go an additional 15 miles out of my way to another dealer because of the closer dealer's bad rep. A friend of mine had a very bad experience there (involving a $40,000+ sale). I'm not about to expose myself to that kind of potential, even if I'm only looking for someone to do routine PM service on a <$10,000 machine.

The only benefits the B7510 offers are higher ground clearance (from bigger wheels and tires) and a non-limited 3PT. Unless you physically can't traverse your property with a BX, it should be more than enough for a 1/2 acre residential lot. Keep in mind, the BX is a bit more manuverable and takes up a little less space in the garage. I actually considered the 7510 for my 2-1/2 acres but went with a BX because it would do everything I needed and has a newer design.

Tell me about it. The inline 2-cyl in the BX1500 will shake your brains out at idle (I too had the air cleaner band break at under 100 hours). However, at just a touch above idle it purrs like a kitten. I usually keep it at about 1/8 throttle if idling.

The major differences between the B2410/B2710/B2910 and the B7510/B7610/B7800 are creature comforts. Position control 3PT, telescopic stabilizers, ratchet-style lifting rod adjustment, telescopic/tilt steering wheel, cruise control, seat suspension, optional bi-speed turn, 3-range HST (B2710,B2910,B7800).

When I pull the mower deck all the way up I cannot turn the adjustment knob to the "top" position to lock it up at transport height. The best I can do is the "4.0" setting. When the mower deck is off the tractor I don't have this problem. The deck is adjusted such that it comes within 1/16" of the hard stop on both sides at full lift. Is there another adjustment or some trick I don't know about?

Yes, I have one. It is TOO BIG for a BX.

The 5' width is fine, but I had to add a second adjustable lifting rod to my 3pt to get enough adjustment in lifting height. TSC sells their "XB" line of implements specifically for subcompacts. The "XB" back blade has a 4" lower moldboard which fixes the problem. Go to King Kutter's website or look in the store for a brochure. As far as I know the XB products are not listed online at TSC's website.

An L-series is a bit big for mowing 2 acres, but as long as the area is wide open and you don't mind a lot of triming it'll work fine. Keep in mind, the mid mount mower on an L-series is a monster. Suggestion: If you think you want the 3130, go for it or you might regret it later. Use the $$$ you would have spent on a mid mount mower on a good rider or a used zero-turn instead.

The box scraper or another source of weight on the 3pt is the only way to go. Your 280lbs is actually CONTRIBUTING to the load on the front axle rather than helping to reduce it. Take a look at the location of the seat directly from the side of the tractor. Even at its rearmost position the majority of your bodyweight is forward of the rear axle. 3pt ballast will help take load off the front axle but I wouldn't worry too much about the tires. The loader will stop lifting before the tires give out. Just go slow and be careful not to pinch the tire against the rim while going over a sharp rock.

The blades on a rotary cutter are "hinged" at the hub unlike the continuous fixed blade on your typical lawnmower. This allows the blades to move out of the way if they hit something large. However, this feature has its limits and is really only designed to protect the driveline on the tractor.

Just make sure you get a post hole digger specifically designed for SUB COMPACT TRACTORS. A regular length auger is too long for a BX.

I'm sure this will open up a proverbial "can of worms" but assuming you're using the proper weight oil recommended in the manual, how early is "too early" for break-in time before switching to synthetic? I know the engine needs dino oil for the rings to properly seat and bearings to run in, but has anyone atually had a negative experience switching to full synthetic after the first oil change? 300 hours sounds like a lot to me.

I don't know the differences between the older and newer B-series models, but on a BX one lever selects which PTO will run (rear-540RPM OR mid-2200RPM OR BOTH rear-540 AND mid-2200). Another lever actually engages or disengages whichever PTO(s) have been selected.
