Hardwood brought up an interesting point. 40 years ago the worst thing that usually happened was loosing a few gallons of fuel/gas. We never topped off at night...

However as cabs became common, curved glass and stereos VANDILISM has became the problem.

Now it's cut tires, fuel lines, hoses, smashed windows, broken guadges etc...

I also believe it's not limited to unsupervised kids. It's tree huggers, peta's and that list of whackos goes on and on.

There are lots of small 10 gal tank compressors out there for $200.00. These are very portable and run on 110V. These compressors will run nailes all day. Big air wrenches if you have patience. BUT they won't give you much more than 120psi. Only some big truck tires require more than that anyway.

The small compressor is an easy entry into the air tool field and you can learn much as you experience air tools. I would suggest only buy the tools you need as you need them and buy good ones. I buy tools as part of the cost of a project.

I use a 3/4 impact and not to many home units (I have one on 220V single stage) can keep up to the air demand. I do not push it to hard and have to wait for pressure. It is not a daily use tool here so I am OK with my set up.

The sand blasters will kill your compressor. So if you have visions of lots of sandblasting either rent a big compressor or hire it out.

Built many and building one now. Strip off the top soil at least 6-8 inches deep. If sub soil is real sticky (clay) I'd use ground fabric also. Have bank run gravel brought in to back fill 6-8 inches above your old grade. I like to see at least 2 feet extra around all sides. Have building built bring in #1st or #1 stone or Course Sand to set your final grade prior to pouring concrete.

If you are heating the pole barn structure there are other things to consider...

If you let your yard get that tall why is removing clippings a concern????

Get a bungy cord and open your discharge chute cover and blow the clipping out evenly across the yard.

Many times I remow in a higher gear to remove and clumping and stuff that did not cut right because of its lenght. I do not mow as often as I should (I try for once a week) but then again I have a yard and the neighbors and neighborhood org's can KMA.

Had not considered that type of input shaft... I have not looked at any chippers at chippers in detail. But I think back to the baling hay days with flywheel balers The shear bolt on your chipper should/needs to be between the flywheel and the rest of the machine.

As far as plugging and stalling many farmers have been there and done that on blowers filling silo. No real permenant damage done. Unless you keep trying to clear the plug by slipping the clutch...

I'm glad it's you out in those pines getting ate up by bugs. I spent lotsa time in Alaska and a couple of days in Washington and can only immagine the size of the skeeters this time of year...

The 4020 is a great tractor and the price is right, IF, the sheet metal is straight. I'd rather have the syncro shift vs the power shift. It is a little hard on fuel at pto power, plan on a 100 gals for a good solid, farmers, day of work. Those tractors are quite desirable.

BUT to do what you want unless the batwings are really big I'd look at a 3020. You'll use a lot less fuel and the resale of the 3020 will hold. It is a really desirable tractor. There are several restored ones around here and they all fetch $10,000+.

I did not high light it BUT B4 I spent any more money. I'd recheck safety switches and plug in connections for the switches. I'd even use a jumper wire across them. A contnuity tester will also show if your switches are good.

Hindsight is usually ... Unless it's an emergency plugged septic, water running in a wall... You already know the answer.

Go inperson and tell her that you are doing more damage and are not willing to do a sloppy looking job and will finish the work she requested and fix your ruts and reseed those areas no charge when it dries out.

The beauty of old people is they have a network and you should get good references for your honesty and good work despite the conditions.

I'm thinking what grinder said. Unless you have exceptionally clean gravel under your pad. Then not sure how long it would be before contanimated with sediment and unusable.

I'd lean toward a good squeegie with cups at end to move lots of water.

RR you will need some meat in the middle of the bucket to attach a hook with out bending things when you use it.

I would also suggest a good piece of angle across the top edge of your bucket. That area is also a little light.

That is a very interesting link. And timely, a neighbor asked me last night about a small loader bucket for a lawn tractor. Just wants to dip into a mulch pile or topsoil pile.

This is an interesting discussion. I really do not consider a 4400 a large machine. It's much better than a lawn tractor or a sub-cut (I guess thats the term).

I have looked at bat-wing mowers for mine 9'-10' range.

I do not get a lot of time off during the construction season. So I look for any advantage to maximize my time off.

I don't have problems getting on or off the 48 hoe. But it is a PIA moving so generally I move from the hoe.

Ken the hook up is bad. You do have the 2nd hose? I can hook mine from the ground most times. But the crooked fingers with arthritis coupled with age (53, I know I'm just a kid to some of you :-)) do tend to get in the way of each other.

Bigger is usually better in many cases even if the old saying goes "smaller is better if you know how to use it". I think that was made up by guys with small things to start with :-)

You have a flow control valve for the 3ph. Check that and your hyd oil level.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm ah thinking your arms would not spend much time on the rests. My valve controls on the JD48 require quite a stroke for full function.

I would also think you would need 2-3 valve block arangements to faciliate the mechanical linkages.

I do not find the BH levers that big of a problem and with my feet up on the supports my arms are in my lap. My biggest bitch is every company seems to valve controls different.

I use my BH quite often and it is hard to remember that it's only a little baby hoe and to keep it with in it's limitations. My biggest grumble is moving... climbon-climboff...

All that said it is much better than a shovel and wheel barrow.

I think next purchase in a mini excavator.
