DUH! I'd forgotten I'd loose some pulling power. But me thinks I can counter the slack issue with chains and hooks.

CraigC it's 79.5" or 6'7.5".

I was thinking on reasons why I like it and remembered when mowing the pointy down one stirred the old dead grass and got that started moving. Also stacking snow would send a cloud of snow in the air.

As I said the toughest part of this is cutting the hood (mental thing for me). JD sent good directions I measured 6 or more times. I had masking tape on both sides of hood to mark it. I tried it wasn't sure.

HINT! There is a little rounded dip in the engine side cover. GUESS why it's there :-). If you are centered above it and each side after you measure and mark you are golden.

I used a hi speed "HI SPEED" air powered recropiating body panel saw. Practiced on a couple of coffee cans then changed blade and made the cut.

There were no serious hyd problems with the 4400 gear. They did have a pip on the valve for the rock shaft.

There is a bushing in the trans that bothers on some and not others and JD changed mine because of a rattle I did not like.

You've already visited the axle issue. I'll add that it is not a mechanical concern. The old style is as solid as a rock but it is tuff on a lawn doing tight turns. My dealer did not have any problems changing mine I only had to tell him it scuffed my lawn.

The 4400 gear is a solid unit.

Hopefully Murf will pick this thread up cause he knows lottsa stuff about this.

I have a couple of BFRs here. I did not build a footer for any of them. So every year they sink a little. Every 3-4 years I hoist them up and put some #2 stone under them and relevel.

I can not figure it out every year the frost brings stones and rocks closer to the surface pushing them up. Or as some people say growing rocks. Since that is true why aren't mine on their tippy toes?

Oh yea back to the thread. I'd make sure your rocks have something solid to sit on and built below the frost line. You could use lottsa rocks for a footer also and tie them all in to your terracing. You will want something behind them to hold the soil out of them either lottsa smaller rocks mortored in or a concrete wall. Frost will push and heave the stuffing out of a nice design with out solid footers and retainment.

WB if your picture is correct your draft link/ arms are either on the wrong side or upside down. Your arms should come back reasonable straight then curve to the outside.

Nancy What model tractor? It sounds like one of the slave cylinders is bad and either needs rebuilding or replacing. So if you do one you should do both. Be ready for an expensive repair.

I am quite suprised that a tractor would have a system like that for the clutch. Those arangements are quite expensive on trucks and cars.

Another thought about composite/plastic is: it reduces/buffers noise with out having to add acustic material to tin.

ncrunch take a look at the plastic cover the 3ph lever slides in. Loosen the 2 bolts that hold it and rap it with your palm to the rear.

When dealing with the little distance that is there provided the dealer got the adjustments right. you are only talking about a 1/16 or so more of travel with the lever. That is in the cover plate easy. The other trick to get just a tad more lift is to push down on your lever as you push it to the rear.

It seems like no matter how many times I have it on or off it will pick just a tad different each time.

Stevesk JUST A THOUGHT HERE! If you limb out the tops at 2-3" and leave them, you will not know the limbs are there in 2 years. Cut the rest up for fire wood or sell the rest to a firewood cutter and have him limb out to you spec. Generally there are a few tree top fire wood guys out there.

But if you have had all the tops dragged to a landing already a chipper will probably work best.

sshuma your power beyond is plenty to run an average size splitter. I really do not have a preference for a 3ph they are all about the same. Now if you build your own that is another topic.

I am building a large splitter and intend to run it from the power beyond for a while. Murf has a cool idea so I am shopping for a small 2-3 cyl diesel with a BIG pump.

bigpete it is a toss up time to build or work a couple of hours extra and pay for it.

Just so you remember the calendars today (the shop freebies) are not like yesteryear. But the models do seem to have something about their eyes now.

Most of the tool calendars do not even have women on them now bacause of the issues related.

And forget the calendar model that has the longest legs I've ever seen saying something about "it takes a big wrench to loosen big nuts" or something like that :-0

Was the spool valve new or rebuilt? When was the oil changed last? What type of oil in it? Oil strainer? Oil filter?

Sounds like the valve leaking or bypassing. So it could be a bad "O" ring or 2. So why did it happen the 2nd time? That was the question about hyd oil and new or used or rebuild valve.

ronbo generally 3ph has sway stablizers already. Draft control is more for field work. Moving dirt around you would not need it.

Box scrapers are many and it depends on how much you want to use it and how well built you wanna spend money on. I have a very heavy duty one but it is only 4' wide. I most only use the scarfier teeth to loosen the soil and then I switch to the scraper to slide dirt in wind row. I move the wind row with bucket.

Some guys claim the light weight ones are just as good as the expensive ones. I do not think so. I try and get to a lot of auctions and you oughta see some of the junk people have traded and dealers can not move from their lots.

If you are gonna use it a lot buy the heaviest duty you can.

I am considering a Sims cab I have some pictures. I can not tell where and how cab sits in relation to the tall rops. I've tread these cab waters B4.<br>

But I do enjoy the outdoors MOST of the time but having to plow every morning at 3-4 am doing the widow and others is getting a little old. It's 3F this am with over 10" of new fluffy snow.<br>

Grinder I'd have to agree. I guess the trick is getting a good bond. I have seen 1" asphalt overlays with trapped water from poor pavement below. You'll notice a round pot hole 1-2" deep with a smooth level bottom...

I have to ask our lab engineers about the blend. We are a small company and our lab rats work with us on a daily basis.

Paul I have a 35 hp JD4400 I still get mine stuck, Occasionally, I used it for years on a 19-20 hp ford 1500.

You really only need a BIG pipewrench. Shut tractor down release pto brake if it has one and turn the auger backwards.

You also use a bar if you weld a small loop up on the auger to stick bar in and turn out.

I just use a 36" pipe wrench cause I have one.

They probably do not put reverses on them because someone would try a dig a hole in reverse then complain about a defective auger or point. We have guys at the shop that try it with power drills, but thats another story...

Dennoace I saw this this morning but had chores to do and knew this would be a kinda long reply.

I also operate heavy equipment, loaders up to the 980G cats, excavators up thru the 330 cats, both of the above are all electronic, all the old loaders down to the old trojans with detroits and old 220 excavators, and heavy trucks.

The problem I see with equipment operators moving onto a hydro is: as I lean into the stock pile I start adding a certian amount of fuel and start the bucket load process all the while adding fuel if as need it.

That said: a friend in this business bought a 4100 hydro and felt it was almost like a loader because the brakes are on the left and fwd pedal on the right he says he is getting the hang of it but he's had it over a year now.

The hydro works backwards you have to let up to add forward power. I know I'd be screwed. Right foot has always gone down to add power except for decelerators on dozers. But for some reason that has never been a big issue but I do mess that up after many hours in the seat and I get tired.

It's like getting on a backwards JD hoe after operating others. You'll have to relearn how or change the plumbing so its correct as industry standard is.

I have a JD 4400 syncro shift and it is very smooth in the stock pile. I only have to change a gear to move into pile then back to original gear and I'm on my way. I use the same range when using the loader. Changing the gear only takes a heartbeat to accomplish. I usually do not evn think about the fwd/rev handle, its automatic after all these years. If a hydro moves 3 more buckets in an hour so be it. I'll stick with the gears.

Bigpete congrats. ENJOY! That gussett is a good idea Think I'll borrow it.

I put a 1.5 X .25 thick angle iron across the front of my bucket and the hooks I cut are back on the reinforcement strap.
