OAITW Here goes... Check for pressure on the shaft. TURN TRACTOR OFF PTO OUT OF GEAR ETC. Move mower blades back and forth to release any belt tension. Try some rusted parts release solvents (I like Blaster) on the coupler splines and let it soak some. If locking collar or pin is stuck try lots of release agents on them and work them a little at a time until free. Hammers work for this BUT BE KINDA NICE you may wanna use the parts again.

wiggle You talk to 10 people and you'll get 10 different reasons why 1 is better than the other.

I have a geared tractor and do every thing with it. Loader work is no problem. The only thing on loader work is cycle times you may be a little slower at the pile by selecting a lower gear to use scooping then changing to higher if you have to travel.

SO WHAT! I got this to make my life easier not to see how fast I can accomplish something. Take your time and enjoy it. Anything that burns diesel is still lots better than a wheelbarrow and a shovel or a walk behind blower Or shovel. I've used all of the above and just love my "according to some" pokey ole geared tractor.

Me thinks it is more important to know how to use it to your best ability.

We have Big Caterpillar loaders with electronic fwd and rev switches on the left side of "T" steering control and gear change selectors on the bucket control levers, auto shift trans ...BLAB, BLAB, BLAB... at the end of the day where production counts they can move more. We pay a lot for that only to see that the loader can work faster than it needs to and sits idle many times for a couple of hours a day. So what did we accomplish by having a more expensive, faster and do more machine???

I'd get a live pressure guadge and put it were the sending unit is mounted. Me thinks before you start replacing stuff you should get a accurate reading of the pressure.

If you have low pressure after running, are return passages partially plugged? Shut down engine and pull dip stick is it low? Does the level come up after a while? This problem is usually caught while oil is cool.

If you have excessive engine wear an oil anaylisis can tell you where the wear is.

As ken asked what kinda oil are you using? Is the engine burning oil? Losing/leaking oil? Does the engine have enough oil?

Did someone swap a dipstick and give you one that is too long, 2-3 quarts will show full while it should have 5-6???

Wasn't gonna but what ta heck... I recall many times in Alaska at -40 and lower if a car or truck did not catch. Dragging a blanket out and putting it over the top of an engine and sticking a hair dryer under it aimed at the manifold area.

Most cars and trucks have battery blankets and block heaters installed but occasionally something extra was needed. Especially if it had gotten unplugged and you needed to go.

Just a caution note 350. Never enter a silo with corn silage in it that has started to heat. The gas is deadly. I'm sure your friends have hopefully told you.

Usually the senario is: Silo almost full, late in day, other chores to do, we'll level off or move around in am before we start filling.

If you do have to enter the silo make sure the blower is running and let someone know you are going up to level, put in more doors etc.

For as much as farmers know about this there are still to many accidents from this usually the kids going up just to help out.

I am not quite certian why you would try to put tractor in gear at full rpm.

If you are mowing and want to make a direction change at full rpm, simply stop, clutch, cng gear and go. The transmission will do this, with out grinding. If you let out the clutch between gears you will start the transmission spinning and will have to wait for it to stop again.

Generally if you have and geared tractor, truck etc you have to let the transmission stop spinning before you can put in gear. The bigger, heaverier and faster it is spinning the longer it takes to stop spinning. Big trucks have clutch brakes to assist, little tractors do not.

Idle down if you have had tractor working at full rpm and had the tractor in neutral before you try to put in gear.

There is a new form of racing around here. Grasscar... Lawn mower racing. I've seen the souped up ones on one of the Big dish (can't remember how to spell satelite) feeds.<br>

Good ole boys have those things souped up to do 45mph+. Now thats moving on a old beat up lawn tractor. <br>

If you jump too much in diameter you mower guadge wheels will not clear. Check how close they are now. Other than that you should have minimal problems getting deck reset along with other stuff.

I guess it's a point of view. So, over all did most things sell HIGH or overpriced or low and underpriced? Did he get rid of everthing?

PT Barnham had a saying and me thinks a lot of auctioneers learn it the first day of training.

Art I've been looking at the big auction comming the 11th in Cortland. I am very unimpressed with the people putting a big emphasis on Guillutios equipment line. He's the one that killed all tthe cows and burned the house. His equipment is junk even the new stuff I do not think he owned a grease gun either.

But there is enought other stuff to make a good sale. Hopefully I won't have to work and can spend the day there.

Murf you are right on with the prices being to high.

I can make the grapple from scrap steel a 8" hyd cylinder 2 hoses with connectors a few bolts and some welding.

I can make the wood elevator also along with the custom splitter.

Too many times it seems easier just to buy something that cost 2X more than it is really worth and still have to modify it for your particular use. Worse yet have to fix it because it was made so cheezy to start with.

Asphalt suppliers use a very light mixture called dust oil they also use their equipment to spray it by the sq yard/meter. We also squirt calcium but that is used more for soil stabilization in road beds.

The prefered solution is oil and stone, or better yet pave it. Then you have to live with increased speeds.

Now there is an idea make some pot holes and slow your traffic down...

As I said before your township should be taking care of your dust control. Many towns here spray a couple of times a summer and the results on lightly traveled roads is excellent.

Josh I do not think lenght is a concern. Moisture in the ground is going to produce some good ruts.

If you have a good roler you can roll them out while soft and fill in the rest of the low spots and reseed.

Grass is very good cover and will take an unbeliavable amount of abuse and return lush in the spring.

Interesting about the filter. I wrecked the front end and you should have seen the repair bill. I looked at it and choked. Over 4000.00 w/ 500 deductable. I went down the list item by item. NO WAY DID THEY FIX MOST OF THE STUFF ON THAT BILL. I brought the body shop guy out and the service mananger they Ah-ah-ah-ah well we did all that work. I showed them rusty parts and bolts that had never been removed and suggested we get the insurance company down here to inspect the repairs before I moved the car. They asked if they took 1000 off the bill and I did not have to pay the deductable if that would be fair...

Good service departments with honorable managers are hard to find and when you do keep all of your business there. We may pay a little more up front for our cars but when the service guy brings a loaner to where I work and takes my car and gets it back the same day with no extra charges that is where I'll spend my money.

Dealers may have to fix your vehicle even if you do not buy from them but they sure do not have to provide that kind of service.

I saw a bigger one being unloaded the other day. It was hooked to a 5 bottom plough. As I traveled back and forth on that road the hood was in the raised position still ploughing, I assume overheating? Any way sales guy back and other tractor hooked on plough for an hour or so then red tractor back on it.

The look like anything else today and nothing like the original ones of yesteryear...

Billy You can do it with out a tension guide. That said: Tension is important but not as important as how you mow.

Have you ever mowed with the belt shields removed? If not remove them and mow. Watch what happens to the belt when you are mowing slow and not working the mower. Change ground speed faster and start working the belt and then you will see how the damage to the belt gets done the belt really has to pull hard and you'll see that at the turn in the belt after the drive pulley.

I've told this before: My belt on my 72" landpride lasted 6 years with my little 20hp ford. It lasted 15 minutes in heavy wet grass with new 35hp JD. I am on my second year of mowing with this belt.

I still squeal the belt now and then. So I have had a couple of cheap belts I have tried if I'm gonna abuse it mowing heavy stuff.

A B158 (genaric #) works on my LandPride 72" side discharge. I think they are $19.00. You will not get the life out of these that you get from the LP belt.

I have had our rock crusher belt suppliers get me a really tuff belt, one of the best in the crusher industry, it did not last one mowing. It is not designed for the reverse turns.

Art is right! Veneer grade cherry is out of this world price wise. Its not uncommon for a clean limbless log to go from common to veneer and quad drouple the price.

If you are that unsure of what you have you probably should get a professional to apraise it.

If you are going to use it. Use lots of stickers to minimize warping as it dries.

Generally truckers do not determine the amount of yards by measuring their boxes. They can tell you how many yards they can haul and stay legal usually it will not be close to the full box.

Loads by the yard are figured at the loader by the size of the bucket. Buckets are sized by the yard. Look at your loader specs and you'll find cubic ft. And generally buying by the yard you will always get get more, loader operators like a nice rounded up bucket.

Usually the loader operator, if experienced, can nail a load very close to weight and yards. The problem with weight is moisture content.

But here a yard of gravel is about 1.5 ton (moisture). Crusher run is 2 ton to the yard.

10 yards (15 ton) of gravel is not a very big pile. Actually it looks very small unless you have to move it with a wheelbarrow and shovel.

I'm not sure what all types of pine you have. But I do know ya-all have lots of oak. So maybe it would work for you.

We have lots of hemlock the prefered siding material for anyone who wants to use board and bat. The big winerys just west of us use that. Another one I like alot because of the redhue is Larch.

The beauty of the 2 I mentioned is you put them on and forget them. At my house I keep it as natural as possible.

I think (I haven't bought any in a few months) hemlock is around $.45 BF and Larch is a little more.

An intersting string of events here. I have also lost a lynch pin and hunted for 2+ hours looking for all of the spacers.

Since then I have safety wired all of the pins on the wheels. just makes 4 less things I have to watch when I mow.
