Web I have 1 bottom plow I built from scraps from a OLD 2 bottom. It even has a old cast iron point. Have 3pt hitch harrows/drags. Never had any use for disk. But they are good for cutting up sod just afer you plow. Total cost for both $10.00, 8 hours cutting and welding plow and 4 hours brush hog time for drags and 4 hours rebuilding worn out tines.<br>

Anyway I do not know your ground conditions. If you are in a boulder area (BFR's) uhhhh (Big fine rocks) you may have to use a plow.<br>

Better thought do you have a neighbor with big equipment? Trade some fence mending or chores with them to plow your field the first time so you can see if a roto tiller will work. Or you could rent a tiller to check it out. <br>

15 acres sounds and looks like a lot but I remember neighbors with a single bottom, 1 tractor and 100 acres to work. probably plowing 20 or so acres for corn and oats.<br>

Bottom line IMHO is: If a roto tiller will work in your ground you can do the entire process in 1 pass instead of 4 or 5 You'll have to disk a couple of times and harrow/drag a couple also. Maintenance on the tiller tines will depend on how fast you try to work the ground. Small brush and roots should be no problem other than winding up on the tines. But you will plug up a drag very quickly with sod and brush. Drags are not fun to unplug either.<br>

jg On my 72" LP side discharge I keep the chute deflector folded back so that I have a good spread of the clippings. As peters said if I want a wind row I fold the deflector down. The other benifits of the side discharge is you (IMHO) will get a better lift of the grass thus a better cut of the wheel tracks. Also you can block the chute off with a piece of sheet metal for mulching. Have Fun Harvey

Tom I think you have it pretty well nailed. I have never heard of two types of off road fuel here. "I BELIEVE" the red dyed is the same heating/offroad, I gonna bug them one day about it just to see. I know for certian I've never seen the Blue dye.

The kero trick is simply a way to use what you have for summer fuel in the winter. We can fill our home storage tanks on special fills around aug/sept for around $.95 a gal. I have a lock in price with dealer for $1.13 this year and they only charge me that, cause they are nice, with the kero blend also.

I do recall oil dealers here recommending across the board/brands to fill out side tanks with kero in the winter so I do suspect there is no difference in the red dye.

I would say the only way you might get tractor to those kinds of temps is good traction pulling a plow at full throttle and the rpm stays near the torque line of about 2/3 of your pto rated rpm. Brush hogging might do it but that is later in the year.

Morning Len I would find it very hard to believe that a dozer in good condition (good cutters, good grousers, etc) and an experienced operator would have any benefit from a small tractor pre working the soil. In heavy baked clay, shale or boulders a large scarfier might be in order and you'll see them on the BIG machines.

The closest you can get is a box scraper with the scafier teeth or a sub soiler shank. However if your ground is like that I'm not sure a compact is gonna pull it at depth. It takes power and weight to work efficently.

PS I've looked at your site but guess I did not see the range. I used to shoot High power siliouette years ago still have the "tools" but not the time to stay competive.

I would go to the dealer that has given your farmequipment and you the best support over the years. The ag dealers that care about their customers will serve you the best and they all "SHOULD" have a good handle in the compact arena by now.

dirty; Me thinks an old Farmall H or similiar old farm tractor with a pull behind 6' Rotary cutter would do ya.<br>

For your drive, Since you mentioned your repair ability, You could build a big drag behind plow/scrapper a couple of runners/skids and a cutter blade between them Bolted in with angle iron with several holes to adjust depth of cut...End of drive a couple of small skids to manually raise up out of cut.<br>

Of course you might just find a old tractor with a 2 or 3 point hitch.<br>

Bet you could get out of the whole deal for less than 2500 and some time.<br>

Wayne If you are just planning on field mowing I would say the 4410 and a 6' rotary mower would more than do the job. If you mow it to 4-5" before it gets over a foot tall. Small brush will not bother you once you have mowed them. However if you are concerned the first time or so you can back up to small brush 2" or so and set the rotary mower down on them a little at a time. Stump will get shredded enough so it won't bother a tire. P.S. WEAR GLASSES DOING/WATCHING this operation.

If you only plan on mowing 1-2 times a year a 5' mower may be the better chioce.

The 4410 will do almost any thing you want if you use your head. I probably really stretch the limits of what the engineers recommend and the safety freaks would fall over if they saw some of the stuff I have accomplished with a little hyd power, traction and thinking the action thru before trying.

There is gonna be a lot of GUESSING here. Is PTO linkage hooked/broken? Nothing loose? Pto is in gear? Shear bolt on mower? Mower belt?

I do not believe you have a selenid on yours it is or should be a regular PTO, clutch driven.

With out more info from you every thing is a stab in the dark.

What have you checked? what were you doing? what did you do? did the tractor have any funny smells? does the pto shaft turn and mower does not? Does the linkage for the pto work differently now than before?

Morning rr. It's really tuff to figure out what may or may not be going on. There are threads about pulleys, belts, bearings, air temp, ground speed, bad fuel, etc...

My thoughts are: you may be a little short on HP, BUT it is dooable. I ran a 72" LP rear finish on a 1500 4wd 19HP ford for years. I had to run fairly slow especially on the one embankment. I only mow weekly and grass could get way ahead of me. So I do understand.

I would not cut closer than 2-2.5 inches (a shorter cut will really eat the HP), make sure the blades are kept sharp. Be patient. I always think about the manual alternative.

My yard took well over 6 hours on my old JD 112 and a 48" deck. I went to just over 3hours with the Ford. With the JD4400 I am down to 2-2.5 hours. Of course the original belt lasted 6 years with the Ford and 15 minutes on the JD. Now I do a belt or 2 a season.

Have fun take your time and remember the old push mower...

Morning Nick That does not sound bad at all. You will find that many will tell you too much or too cheap. If you like the dealer and others have good comments about the dealer and the dealer will take care of your needs than quibbling over a few dollars either way is not worth buying something cheaper if you have to scream and threaten...

My dealer has picked mine up 3 times for upgrades and installing backhoe with no charge... Service means alot.

usaf... Unless you have a large yard 2-3 acres or more what you are looking at should do fine. Loaders (Green) are around $1500-$2000 dealer installed. Also gonna depend if the valve is already installed or not.

Little Green tractors will hold their value real well so you will not get hurt later if you trade.

It will be real tough to find a "GOOD" used one for much less than a new one. Lots of "GOOD AND USED" and they fetch top dollar. I obtained a ARRPS 728 3ph no sub frame. That is a lot of hoe for a 4400. I used it pretty hard and got quite concerned about the tractor housings where the 3ph mounts breaking. Felt by the time I suffer throught the down time and cost it would be to my advantage to hire it done. Try hiring a hoe with operator for a couple of hours digging... Finially bite the bullet and found the money to buy the jd48. I am really pleased with that decision. YUP had to put my own ribbon on it at Xmas cause I was still in the dog house...

Oh yea back to your question used jd48's if you can find one are $4000+

Plots a couple of thoughts occured to me. Not remembering the age of your tractor please bear with this.

Do you have the correct amount of free travel in your cluct linkage?

Do you ride the clutch? I seen lots of people in tuff spots that have the pedal covered and maybe some pressure on it.

SteveTX My first thought with a 9N is ground speed. 1st at PTO is quit fast as I recall. I've seen flail type finish mowers which worked ok and the 3ph finish mower (rmm). The 3ph at 72" did not quite cut it (no pun) when using once a week because of how fast the grass grows here in the spring. If you are mowing at 3-4" you may be ok and have to take a smaller bite in deep grass. My landpride has hi-lift blades and it requires a slow ground speed to work really good. But I do mow at warp speed when in a time crunch. My preference is a side chute with deflector removed. I can also bolt a plate ove the chute to mulch. The arms on the mower float so that mower rides fairly even. I've spent lots of time in West TX not much grass there but Houston has lots :-) enjoy. Harvey

Billy I did not look at my 4400 manual BUT there is a strainer in that circuit. It is a black cylinder 3-4" long in the hyd line, across the back. It has a mesh screen in it. With the power beyond kit the strainer is moved to the hyd hose. Is this description clear as mud??? :-) Harvey

John the skids will mark the yard if they touch. You'd have to have a perfect flat yard or be a very exceptional operator to keep it flat. It will do pretty good with a tail wheel and the two skids by the tractor. I take it it does not have a tail wheel? If not I'll go back and say again $300 sounds high unless it is an exceptional brand and build.
