Gotta say it! Ether is the most dangerous and stupid thing you can try. Do people do it? YES! Do they get away with it? Yes! Most times.

If I step on a toe here I apoligize. My Comment is from experience not someone told me.

I have seen, years ago, ether used outside and the tire guy hide on the back side of the truck when he did it.

I have seen 2 people killed ( you wanna see a mess?) from split rims and the damage to a tire shop and a tire from ether. I have also seen several tire cages that have been destroyed over the years from ether and split rims.

More tire guys and inexperienced amatures have been maimed or killed, according to the tire industry, by using ether than any other thing, except maybe split rims. I do not know of any local tire shops that will permit ether to be on their trucks, even in the winter for starting.

Tires will blow off beads. Rims will break. People in the area will get hurt or killed.

I manage a fleet of 21 tractor trailers and tri axle dumps also 7 very large wheel loaders and scads of various smaller equipment involved in quarry and road construction. The tire guys always can seat a bead sometimes the have to call for more help and experience but they do it with out danger to themselves or others.

Our company had a worker killed when he used a cutting torch near a barrel of stored windshied washer fluid, and a open bung. Windshied washer fluid in tires is wrong. If it is pumped into a barrel to store while a tire is being repaired and a careless match, cigerette or flame is near it, some one could get seriously hurt.

If you are gonna ballast the wheels use a tube, use calcium or beet juice. If you are gonna run them soft use screws like the fuel drag cars.

What is the condition of the air cleaner? Many times excessive black smoke is from lack of air.

As Art said injector cleaner and find some place to work the engine real hard.

I was reading about Iowafun misaligned Pins on his rops and wonder if the base plates were torqued correctly.<br>

My pins are taunt but I hardley ever lower it. However I can see if the base plates were torqued crooked it could screw up the pin alignment.<br>

Without going into 35 arguments about libality issues. I would loosen the base plates and check the alignment of the pins and retorque the plates evenly.<br>

My first concern with your project is who is doing the work and will bear the resposnibility when some moron rolls their car over and wants to sue. Especially the idiot that is gawking at the work and forgets to watch where they are going.

We blame the state for a lot of their slowness to do stuff but when you look at the lawsuits they get and any contractors involved it is not hard for me to blame them.

The work can be done perfect with in established and proven procedures and the law suits will happen for any stupid reason.

What's it comming off? You will probably have to buy the mounting brackets and power beyond plumbing in addition.

Yes it should fit. BUT I'd check with JD first for the other parts and installation costs.

There was a discussion on this a couple of months ago.

Many older tractors had a optional canapy system that resembled a rops.

Good luck in your quest especially for someone to build it and stand behind it.

Push the bead down so that it will pull into the drop center and use a blunt Tire tool (old flat rounded screw driver) and pry oppsite the pushed down bead. It may take a couple of those thin tire tools.

The worst tires I've ever done woas those really stiff tubless ones Couldn't get the bead to set had to go back and get tubes. Usually there is not a tire combo I can not lick but that one.

Wish you were closer I'd make a afternoon of it and visit...

Not sure on yours but my little JD has a sight glass if the front end is up or down 1-2" I'm either over full or low.

When BH is on the rear of tractor squats and is over full when off it raises up and is low.

The sight glass used to drive me nuts. Now if I see oil ok if I don't I curl the bucket down raise the front 1-2" usually that is all it needs to see oil.

Tractor is so picky that it has to sit same level each time 3ph same position same air pressure... it's a PITA. Oil on the dip stick/sight glass is good go for it. A little over a little low check it again a week from now.

There is a reason.

If you spend a lot time pulling your piece of equipment the pins should be facing out. The arms of your 3ph will try to pull into the frame of the implement. If the pins face in the force will be against the lynch pins and the very end of the implement pins. You'll bend them if you work it hard.

If you push backwards then the pins should face in because the arms tend to wanna spread so then they are pushing against the frame and the base of the pins.

Now for implements that go either way. With my box scraper I do a lot of rear pushing but the hardest work it does is with the scarfier teeth engaged pulling so I have the pins facing out.

My snow blower is always pushed backwards so those pins face in.

Other stuff it's a coin toss, but gererally the pins face out unless it's a for sure only rearward working piece of equipment.

This weekend my neighbors 4400 would not start. Could feel the selonid click in. Remembered the posts from before so reread but it seemed different. Looked at the fuel pump.<br>

Relooked the selonid took it out and the tractor started. Problem was it would pull in for an istant then release to the open position. Assumed it was bad! Had it apart so took it to the bench and it worked fine.<br>

Went to the key switch it looked bad. Current would not hold. Tried one last thing. Pulled the fuel relay fuse and put mine in. That was it. A $5.00 part. A new selonid may have solved the problem because new needs less current. And maybe the new relay will take a crap if the other posts are correct about the known issue.<br>

Point here remember to look at the cheapest part first. The relay circuit breakers are a PIA to test. Keep a new one handy.

I've just tried to do the best job I can raising my own kids. Many of the lessons I got to teach them I learned in the school of hard knocks plus what my dad taught me.
Kids have to experience life and how things work.

Different people have different views of safe and dangerous. Some kids can not play football because parents do not think it's safe. That's ok until they tell me my kids shouldn't play...

I try to mind my business and if asked for advice I try to give the best I have based on my experience. I do not try to push my views on safety to my neighbors but I do insist on it at work.

I do believe Darwin has a theory on this.

bennie I do not have the JD books. I'm assuming you have some mechanical ability to keep the old tractor.

Check with a local 2 cylinder group for lots of great info. Many groups have get togethers all summer to plow harvest and tell stories (AKA: Lies... well exaggerated stories anyway). There are several 2cyl sites and you can do the search. I do not recall how much tune up info is avaiable on them.

Me thinks Champion has always been the large sparkplug favorite. If you are not running the A very much I'd also look at a complete tune up with new plugs once a year and keep track of the carbon on them. How old is the gas in it?

The other thing with champion is the lenght. Many older tractors have a massive head and the recess for the plugs is a very tight fit for modern sockets.

The best way to remove excess grease is with paper towels. If you truly do feel the need to pressure wash you need hot water. The problem with pressure wash is you push water and dirt into your joint. Any time you wash or pressure wash you should regrease that area. So it kinda a catch 22.

As dsg said the small excess grease helps grab dirt before the grease in the joint does.

Conduit will allow you to pull the cable out and replace it. IF THERE EVER is a problem which in most cases is unlikely.

Bury a blank empty conduit also. You never know what you may want to pull thru it later. ( Fiber, cable, TV etc)

A extra conduit should not break the bank and will save you time money and digging up the yard in the future

funchy that's a good run down on the legal issue. The issue is not so much as to who's at fault anymore it's how much time and money do you have to use to defend your self from a lawyer with time on their hands and the need for income. Thankfully we still have "country" judges here.
