I put the chains on when I have to. I have plowed/blowed complete winters now and then with out having to install at all.

I run turfs. Me thinks it is the best on driveway snow. Deep field snow is ags. I've used all of the tires on different equipment over the years.

If I can only get away with chaining the rears that is all I use. I do a very steep drive for the widow and snowblow backing up it and down and am done with one trip. It usually does require chains at all 4 corners. If I drive up the drive and back down I usually do not need chains but that is for the light snow years. My other neighbor asked me to do his, last year, it is over half a mile long with a real steep pitch, chains are required for this one.

I have the new front end and there is a clearance issue with the right side steering knuckles. The boot on the tie rod is torn from the chains. I have broken the grease zerk also. NO ONE touches my tractor in this configuration but me. Of course I grease weekly so it is not a concern.

I think the term ice gets thrown in this forum to much. Rarely do we get ice. There is lots of packed snow that may glaze alittle. Chains will bite it. Chains will work for those with grades in their drives. I take chains the way I have built them any day on ice even the wet ice we get once a year.

I do like the idea of the ice studs. But I'm from the country and my chains are home made with minimal cost.

As far as winding up the drive line I strongly disagree here. Rarely on snow have I ever had a problem shifting in or out of 4wd. I wind up the drive line much worse with the bucket loader on gravel and sometimes really have to struggle to get it out of gear.

Not off the top of my head. I just threw out 3-4 part used bottles of it a couple of months ago too. It does get stale and requires alcohol to re thin.

It easier and less concern just to get a new bottle when I need it.

The auto parts stores carry it also. Ask for a liquid teflon pipe sealant.

Get several soil samples. A couple in each area. 10 to 1 the Ph is way out in those areas and you will need lots of ag lime to bring the entire area into shape.

The other concern I would have is sandy spots or shallow top soil, layers of gravel to close to surface. Sand and gravel will not hold the moisture for the grasses to establish and trying to mow to short in dry weather lets what moisture that is there evaporate to quickly.

I'd do it! Hopefully your soil is not hardpan or shale. Which would not be a real bad thhing because your trench walls would be somewhat stable. If you are in loose soil the banks would cave before you got the full lenght. You might wanna consider placing your conduit as you go so caving would not be a concern.

Leave your ends wide open to pull your cable in a straight pull.

Requirements are driven by the load plus the empty weight or gross weight. Brakes on both are desireable but front axle is where the weight shift goes.

As k9 said your best option is to check with the dot cops they have the best info out there.

$If you are going to go the welding shop route, let them do it all. They will proabaly have some scrap A/R or harder stuff laying around from other projects and you'll get it for a fraction of a green cutting edge.$ Replaceable Cutting Edge - 54 Bucket

You really wanna hear some HOWLING about greasy rags? Take em in and throw in the washer with hot water...That reminds me I need to get a shop washer.

Cheap grease wipes right off and good grease clings like a good turd on the back of the toilet. Let me bring up the howling thing again...

I leave the grease around the joints it helps capture dirt and junk. I do wipe off the exposed fittings. The recessed hole on heavy machinery kept/left full and cleaned before greasing, which is daily.

I live in a 2 story pole barn. They are very easy to do. We did pour some very stout piers for the poles because of the 2nd story weight.<br>

Poles are set 4' deep, concrete to peremiter walls, U can build 24" center 2x4 stud walls set between posts and use r19 in the walls.<br>

If you use steel for the shell MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD VAPOR BARRIER TOP SIDES and UNDER PAD/FLOOR. It's the most critical thing you will do.<br>

I'm not Bud but I'll try your answer. The archives are full of info and pricing.

Your tractor will run a 10K gen and not overpower it. You can run a larger generator but you will only get about 10K because of your HP.

I opted for a larger gen than my tractor is rated for because the difference in money is not much and I may get a larger small tractor someday, or I could put my old M on it if I had to for a larger welding unit.

I'm limited by HP and not gen me thinks gen should last longer not build as much heat...

Cost of the 20K was around $1900

Just my thought. B4U start chasing expensive stuff have you did the basics? Water? Fuel filter? Other stuff that might cause a fuel blockage?

Water or moisture is the most often cause of starting problems on these and is the most over looked.

That is a good response Frank. On level ground the 61" bucket has all it wants with heavy soil.

The expanded bucket would work excellent for mulch, or other bulky light weight material.

Many times when I am on softer uneven ground moving heavy soil the spinchter factor will give an alert every so often. Always carry loads as low as possible. Harvey

That old JD5 is something my uncle cobbed to work on a 3ph. I weasled it from my cousins 10 or so years ago. I only use it a couple of times a year to trim under my pines and around the banks.

Some day I'll git to a large antique (aka: junk equipment) and find a 30 year old belt driven for a $100 bucks or less.

What would be cool would be a old JD side mount mower... Me thinks to much cobbing to make that work on the little 4400.

The old M is a little much to trim with...

BTW I still do all the rivits the hard way. Ball peen and a set.

On Road Diesel is LOW SULFUR. I do not believe it is labeled 1 or 2 any longer. It is cut with "clear" kerosene and othe additives for winter use.

Off Road Diesel is HIGH SULFUR and is dyed red. This is the fuel deilvered to farmers, large construction equipment and home heating. It is also cut with dyed kerosene for winter use.

There are still old people around here that insist on #1 or #2 and the suppliers sell that to them. For some reason it still costs more. The only difference is cut or uncut.

The suppliers can not keep all of the different types of storage tanks to keep all of these diferent kinds of fuel. The environmental and libality issues would kill them.

Nothing quite beats watching someone grow stuff and offer the extras for sale.

We buy lots of fresh veggies all summer this way.

You may not make a living from it but it will pay for your expenses of growing. And you always have the freshest of veggies in the summer, with no or little waste.

Gotta agree with hardwood. It sounds like a linkage problem and or coupled with a clutch agjustment.

With the jerky-ness going away after 15-20 minutes of use I would tend to lean toward the oil viscoity. I would not rule out a kinked line, bogus filter or the inline strainer.

Another possible area is the loader hyd couplers one of those could be defective.

Do you park it with the bucket lowered? If not as it settles it could pull air into the system and it has to purge it each time.
