Lakeman, we've had the same problem for years on farm equipment and 99% of the time the sun is the culprit. Our latest idea was to put a "T" in the circut anywhere handy with a high pressure ball valve. Just open the ball valve a bit to relieve the pressure when trying to hook the hoses up. It's worked fine for us. Best of luck. Frank.

kubotaguy, thanks for bringing the question up, I've been wondering the same thing. The hemi's I remember were from the late 50's and 60's. In 55 Chevy shocked the industry with that little 265 V8, then in 56 put dual quads on it and blew everyone else off the road. That was back in the days of Arkus Duntov, an engeneer form Chevy who knew how to make things go fast. Factory sponsorshp at Daytona was big then, so Ford, and Dodge joined in the horsepower race. The Dodge "Daytona", "Super Bee", and their other Chrysler cars with a "Hemi" were just simply raw horsepower that blew every body away. I had a 61 Chevy with a 348 tripower, four speed that was quite a machine but no match for a "Hemi", I tried to trace it down a few years ago but never found it. I used to really enjoy stock car racing till it went the way of Pro Football' Baseball, and all professional sports that have simply turned from being a sport to being a huge business now with their only intent to generate revenue. I've probably said enough by now to lose every friend I've made on the board, but that's just my honest feelings. Frank.

1timefarmer. Another vote for the front mount snowblower, especially if you're doing sidewalks. Stick with the big three, NH, Deere, Kubota, I don't know much about Massey except that their parts seem to be the highest priced in the industry. Out of the big 3, pick your dealer first, they all build good equipment, but your relationship with your dealer can make your purchase fun or misery. A good dealer may not be the absolute cheapest in initial price, but you'll get your moneys worth in the end with superior service. My opinion is that the big 3 have equipment that is tops in the industry and basicly equal in quality so the biggest thing they have to offer you over the other two colors is service. I'm a green person, but looked at blue before I picked the Deere, and haven't been sorry again because of their great service dept. Welcome to the world of compacts, the greatest stress reliever since the fireplace. Frank.

kskwash, I'll chime in with the others here. that's a great price for all the things you'd be getting, but a compact tractor without 4 wheel drive is nearly helpless with a front end loader, and most anything else you may use it for except mowing on level dry grass. Gear drive is fine, that's all I'll own. I think you're biggest regret will come at trade in time, two wheel drive CUT's are real hard to trade in, I'm guessing here but I'd estimate the value of a 2 wheeler would be half or less of a 4 wheel drive. Mikw, I'm assuming you're talking about the wick bars we used to make out of piece of 4 inch PVC with pieces of nylon rope that would wick Roundup out of the PVC mounted on a FEL. This was in the days before Roundup ready soybeans, so the idea was to wipe the roundup on the weeds that were taller than the beans because the Roundup would kill the beans too. They kind of worked if you went both directions so the Roundup got on both sides of the weed. If you'd check around at farm Co-op's or grain elevators that have been in busness for a long time I'd bet they still might have one of those kits in the odds and ends building somewhere to build one that Monsanto gave away to anyone who bought enough Roundup to qualify for a free one. My neighbor and I both got a kit at that time, we worked for a couple days trying to put that blanety blank thing together, when we finnaly got his done we decided to share his rather than put another one of those things together. I sent mine to the great wick bar home in the sky a while back, but if I still had it I'd give it to you for the freight to get it there. one of their real bad habits was working across a long sidehill, the Roundup all ran to the downhill end of the PVC leaking out around the dozens and dozens of fittings and dripping on the beans while the uphill end went dry puting nothing out. I did'nt mean to rain on your parade, but as Red Skelton used to say "I calls em like I seeze em". Frank.

nancyvanv, Depending on the type of tractors that were popular in your aeria salvage yards can ge a good source for parts. here in the midwest the compact and smaller farm tractors haven't become that popular till just in the last ten years or so, so enough of them haven't gone to salvage yet here to be a real good source. A half day of wandering a salvage yard is like going to the circus for me, somehow the wife doesn't quite see my point of view, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, junk is neat. For the 350.00 I'd probabably opt for new in your case, salvage yard hunting takes time, shipping costs, etc. too. Frank.

Broken, a good point you brought up is the fact that there are competing industrys after your same equipment dollar. KK and other more basic brands do keep the high dollar brands, Deere, Kubota, NH, Landpride, Woods, you know the rest somewhat in check pricewise. I guess my personal view on allways buying quality was learned in the furniture industry. I started out with Craftsman, Toolcraft, BD etc.. After having to replace these machines almost on an annual basis, I changed focus and bit the bullet buying only industrual quality machines. As an example I have a Powermatic "66" left over from the plant that I may sell, it will bring me back probably within 90% of what I paid for it new. The "66" that is still in the main assembly room ran enough lumber over it that the table it's self finnaly became worn out of spec.. After correcting that problem It's still running daily. That's enough of my ramblings for now. I hope you know I was only giving you a hard time about the colors thing. Work safe. Frank.

jamesrm, I'm not totally familiar with the size of a BX 23, perhaps the rental person thinks it's not a heavy enough three point? I've never owned an auger, but have rented 3 pt. ones a couple times to use on a full size tractor. I really don't understand the persons concern that your tractor have downforce on the 3 pt.,unless you have some real unusual soil conditions the biggest concern I've experienced is letting the auger go too deep before lifting it out of the hole to clear the soil from the auger. Far as FEL mounted augers, I've really never seen one loacaly, I do think they would be neat so far as being able to look forward while positioning the auger, etc., but I'm sure that with it needing to be driven by hydraulics, the brackets, etc. to mount it on the FEL it would be pricey. Please remember a post hole auger is probably one of the most dangerous attachments to be around, never lift it out of the hole running full speed. If for some reason it needs to come out of the hole running to clear the soil run it real slow. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Grinder, I've decided aganst steel on the ceiling to make for easier fume control and lower the noise potential. The plan now is to put paper back fiber glass roll between the rafters. I'll probably use flourescent for overall lighting and incondescant with shields for a spotlight effect. We've used this lighting system in the assembly room at the furniture plant for years and has been satisfactory. I'll keep you up to speed as things progress. Thanks for your intrest. Frank.

hornak, Does the problem occur with the engine running or off? If it drops normaly with the engine off it might be something to do with the three pt. valve it's self or there probably is a flow control valve somewhere in the circit that could be favoring the three pt. Has the hydraulic system developed any strange hissing sound that wasn't there before? Give us a little more info. and I'm sure someone on the board can help you out. Have a great day, Frank.

No, I don't own any Deere stock but the Deere cordless tools I mentioned in a prior post we've been using steady for almost two weeks now. We're on our second pole shed now and we've never pluged in a circular saw yet, that little 18 volt Deere circular saw makes the energizer rabbit look like a wimp. I have no idea who makes them for Deere, but thier power is unbelievable. Frank.

Teeth will do wonders at helping you dig with a FEL. I had a set on a Deere 725 loader on a heavy farm tractor, they sure would dig but as said above they'll tear the lawn and driveway to shreds pushing snow. The ones I had were easy to remove, just one bolt per tooth so it wasn't much of a job to change them. Frank.

dklopfeinstien, Long as your staying with the big three, they all make good stuff, so I'll just repeat my old sermon of being comfortable with the dealership you've chosen, that's important. Now I guess I'll stray a bit and let my loyanty to the Green show thru a bit. I've got both a 4310 and a 4410 and could'nt imagine a compact being more comfortable to operate. I had a 4300 prior to the 4310, the 4310 had some definite improvments. I've allways been more content to buy the last of a series after the "Bugs" are worked out than the first of a new series that hasn't proven it's self yet. I've never heard of any brand reducing their prices on a new series compared to the old series. So my vote goes for buying the ten series now. Enjoy what ever you buy. Frank.

JFULLERS' I could'nt agree more on the hoe hoe paying for it's self. I've got a Deere #48 that's done lots and lots of work, in fact I ran it till dark last night. I've honestly never saw a #46, but if it's built like my #48, just keep it greased up good, treat it with respect so far as what it is capable of doing and I doubt either one of us will wear them out. mielkemanor; If your tractor has allways been stored in a heated building you could probably strech your oil change a bit. I noticed you're from CT. where the winters can be cold and nasty. During the winter and especially during spring months a lot of frost can collect inside an engine or transmission, when the weather warms above freezing enough to warm the engine above freezing the frost melts and runs down in the oil, it doesn't take long if you're not using the tractor enought to warm it up fully and evaporate the water out of the oil to gather more water than you'd think. One easy way to check is to loosen the oil drain plug enought to turn it with your fingers, turn it slowly till it's just holding by a thread, if water comes out first before oil I'd change it now, a couple tabelspoons isn't unusual for an engine that sees little use. That's also an easy way to check for an internal collant leak, let an engine sit overnight, do the same with the oil plug, if antifreeze comes out first, then it's the famous two words, "O- S---". Those are my thoughts, others may chime in too. Frank.

TSC and most all chain type farm stores sell lots of good stuff, and perhaps their fluids and filters are of the quality needed to protect your tractor, I really don't know. Even with one of my sons being in the oil business with a major oli company I still insist on using the dealer brand of fluid and filters. Fluid and fllters are free compared to parts and labor. Just my thoughts. Frank.

My #48 hoe is getting a lot of use hours acumulated by now since it was new. While on the tractor one outrigger will drop to ground over night the other one doesn't, the boom will settle about half way and the curl will change too. The # 430 loader bucket cylinders will droop a bit, but the boom cylinders never drop a speck even overnight. That's just been the nature of the beast since it was new, nothing settles any faster now than it did on day one. In the meantime the hoe and loader were transfered from a 4300 to the 4310, the same cylinders settle the same amount on the ten series as they did on the double zero series. I've had lots of farm equipment that one machine will settle and another would hold up for weeks. With such a small amount of Hy Guard needed for the system of a CUT I usually change the fluid and filters at a hunderd hours or less. I said something to one of the JD techs about using regular Hy Guard instead of Lo-Vis, his response was "Please don't", he did'nt elaborate, so I did'nt ask. Frank.
