oneace, I joined the board to be a part of enjoying our common intrests of small tractors, impliments, welding projects, etc., and to get my mind off of life's never ending challenges. I was off the board for a period due to a medical condition, but thanks to modern medicine, God above, and a supporting family I'm back enjoying every minute of what I now do. Your remarks to stevenc were totaly out of line. The past post on Kubotas new decal only showed the childishness of Ferria and whom ever else was involved in that name calling mess over nothing. I had told myself I would'nt post on any name calling contest, but your post to stevenc was the straw that broke the camels back. If you guys can't grow up and act civil toward one another I'm afraid this will be my last post. Frank.

bnrhuffman, I've never seen it in any other color than black, but there might be a newer form of it now that has different colors. All I ever did was get the surface clean, dry, and free of loose paint or rust then get a gallon and paint it on with a brush. I'm pretty sure it's nothing more than powdered graphite with sometning to make it stick to the surface and a carrier to make it brushable. I also think I've saw it in spray cans too. It really is a great product for grain wagons, maybe if you're dumping something more abrasive than corn it might wear off sooner, it normaly lasts two or three seasons for me. Frank.

drcjv, It's getting almost impossible to get anyone with a regular backhoe or excavating service to do small jobs anymore. They have to charge about as much for a half hour job as a half day just to cover their road time. So with all that I decided to buy a regular sized used Deere or Case hoe. After shopping around I found that if you did'nt sprnt 25 to 40 thousand all you got was a worn out problem to take home. I ended up buying the # 48 Deere. I still have to hire a swing hoe now and then for the real big jobs, but we use the #48 so much around the farm that I never take it off, I bought the 4410 to replace the 4310 that the hoe is on, best money I ever spent. I've been in on doing that a time or two with a snow bucket on a large farm tractor. It turns into a real mess, concreet truck driver get irritated from waiting, sometimes they charge for time too. I agree a pumper is pricey, but probably your best chioce. Frank.

Jparker, long as the push botton type yolk is a standard size, which is 99% likely, most any farm supply outlet or machine shop will have them on hand. I too still prefer the old push botton type. Some of my ring types you need to turn the ring, some you slide the ring toward yourself while pushing the yolk onto the tractor shaft. Long as the splines are lined up and a squirt of oil on the shaft the old push botton type is a one hand operation. Have a great weekend. Frank.

Just finished up 5, count em FIVE ears of that Iowa gold, still lickin the butter off my face like an old dog. Even after all that corn I think I could make room for a few of those ribs. AV8R I'll bet the Wisconsin corn has been contaminated by all the cheese that surrounds you. We finally surrendered in the battle of "The Farmer challenges the Raccoon Sweet corn Battle", so we buy it at a farmers market too. We drove from Decorah Ia. to Rochester, Minnesota today and saw lots of sweet corn stands along the road. but then too the Minnesota corn might be contaminated by Ludefisk. Enjoy those ribs and beans. Frank.

Murf, thanks for your intrest and input toward my next shop project. the pump I have on hand is rated 15 gpm at 2000 rpm. And after thinking a bit, a few years ago I mounted a 35 gpm pump on the belly of an M Farmall and drove it off the belt pulley hub with a double V belt drive I was starving the pump at full throttle with an inch and a quarter feed line to the pump from the tank, so by changing pulley sizes I slowed the pump down about 500 rpm and it's worked fine since. So I'll use a bigger feed line on the 4410. I'll mount the tank and valve system high on the 3pt. about the level of the weights on the bracket to keep access to the rear pto and regular drawbar. Likely the pump will have to be under the tractor being I never take the loader off. Grandma and I have a few Grandkids to visit yet before school starts up, so likely I won't get much shop time in for a couple weeks. However it turns out I'l post a picture of two. Frank.

runslikeadeere, You have me wondering what type of rear tires you have, being you mentioned the front tires being rib tires my guess is you have R1, (regular farm tractor tread desigh all around). If the rear tires don't leave an objectional tread mark in the lawn you could likely put R3 (turf type tires) on the front. You may have to switch rins and all for clearance reasons with out spending an awfull lot of money. Changing rears can get real pricey not only for the tires but it's unlikely that your curent rim will work out unless your wheel has an adjustable trad feature wher they could be moved out a notch or two for clearance. Back to your original question, If you replace the front tires with a wide flat type tread pattern you can likely add as many weights as the bracket will hold for a more secure feeling. hope this helps. AV8R, thanks for the response, those were the kind of things I wanted to know before I did something I'd regret later. I know several folks who own and operate their own semi's with either lowboys for eqipment or grain trailers. Maybe buy a couple of them breakfast some morning and get their thoughts. Frank.

Dutch74, there are now so many zerk sizes that only God would know for sure. Yes there are drive in and metric zerks. In the good ole days 99% of all zerks were 1/8 inch pipe thread. If you can get the broken one out without destroying it take both stubs along to a farm supply store and find the ones that match. If you have to destroy the one surely your dealers parts book or tech manual would show the correct size. Frank.

Russ, Cheif gave you some very good advice. As he said both are fine tractors, but you have to decide between a basic workhorse tractor or one with the creature comforts we've all been spoiled with. So far as justifying our investment in the compact tractors and their endless pieces of equipment that can be bought or built to use on the tractors, each of us have our own reasons, I think we can herd them into three basic groups. Group one;. Lots of folks on the board make their living with their compacts, so to them a new piece of equipment must add something to their business bottom line, so cost is very important to them. The second group, we'll call them the middle age working class with familys to raise, houses to build, college tuition to prepare for, etc. If you are in that class probably the basic tractor is your best chioce. Even the basic ones with good care will retain their resale for a good long time. Then you get to my group, the retired or semi retired folks who have did their thing with the house payments, college tuitions, etc., etc.. You still have your choice between the basic and the deluxe models. I'm mildly interested in a new S-10 size basic standard cab pickup, "Wowzer" did I get a wake up call, you can buy a new 4410 Deere for what there asking for that tiny pickup. guess which one will be worth money and which one will be in the junkyard in ten years. I have folks ask me how I can possibly afford two compact tractors. In a true business sense, not on your life could I justify them, but on a more realistic side, those little compacts give me more relaxation than a team of shrinks could ever do. I kind of think of one being my motorboat and the other being my motorhome of which I don't own either one. So it's to each his or her own, If you enjoy motorhomes or motorboats in your retirement years, go buy one and enjoy yourself. If your thing is compact tractors go buy the nice one and enjoy yourself. This is America, the greatest nation earth where we still do have the freedom of choice. pjvezz' I would'nt recomend a tractor that small for a 24T baler. Lots of things enter into what size tractor you need to operate it safely. In ideal conditions such as a light windrow, no hills, solid ground, and not pulling a hayrack behind to load the bales a 35 to 45 HP regular size farm tractor with live PTO would be fine. Baling in hilly fields while towing a rack and heavy windrows you'll need something in the 45 to 50 HP range. The PTO power to spin the baler is about half your power requirement, the other half is just towing all the equipment around the field especially if you have a nearly full load of bales going uphill. Brokenarrow, I've did just such a thing quite a bit in the past. Harvey is giving you some real good advice. Pre rip it at least twice before puting any wire down the tube to be real sure all the rocks, roots, etc. are out of the way. Having to pull up, dig out a rock or trying to go around it just don't work too well with cable in the trench. It's also surprising how much power is needed to cut a trench that deep in one pass, so start shallow at five or six inches then keep working deeper with each pass till you reach your desired depth, it may take four or five, but don't put any wire in till you've got a full depth free pull. westone, I'm asuming that a 3000 has a category one three point hitch. What kind of sickle mower are you trying to attach? Are you sure of whether the mower is a cat. one or a cat. two hitch? I'm sure the welded steel unit you mention is called a quick coupler hitch. I don't remember the different hitch category dimensions right off, but a cat. two is just a bigger stronger verson of a category one hitch, a cat three is stronger and bigger than a cat. two, and so on up the line thru cat. five hitches for really big tractors. Check the owners manual of both your tractor and the mower to be sure of the hitch sizes. Hope this helps, Frank.

Tim, most all PTO equipment is designed to operate at it's peak performance level at 540 rpm. There's a pto mark on your tachomoter. In other words your mower won't do as good a job at 2200 rpm as it will at recommended pto speed. About the only thing I can think of right off that would be wise to operate at a lower rpm would be like a post hole auger where high spped can get you in a dangerous situation real quick. Brokenarrow; I spent yesterday afternoon with the 4410 and the Landpride box blade leveling out a site for a new building. I smacked into most anything you can imagine from rocks to tree roots and even a piece of angle iron that was a 6X6 web about three ft. long. I guess you'd say I gave it the test of it's life and it came thru without a scratch. It has indivdualy adjusted teeth, but a long minute has it done. I'm still amazed at how much dirt I moved in a little while. I'm going to post some other pictures in a day or two, so I'll post one or two of this project. Frank.

Kwschumm; Without seeing the piece or knowing the type of finish that's on it has me groping in the dark a bit, but I'll give you my thoughts. Try most anything to cover the scratches before you sand it off. As a piece of cherry ages it develops a pitina or darkens with age, that in it's self makes newly sanded cherry very difficult to match the color of aged cherry. We've in the past built a new pieces of cherry furniture to match sometning someone allready has and by far the most difficult part was trying to match the color to the aged piece without having the new piece end up far too dark as it ages. I'd check the yellow pages for refinish shops that have been in business a good long while and have them take a look at it. I'd sure try to repair what you have rather than sanding it off. Let me know how it turns out, I'm still not too old to learn something too. Frank.
