I've used power Service for years. Half rate in the summer and full rate starting in early fall. I use the Stabil in gasoline machines that don't get used real often and also follow my Dad's advice of shuting the fuel off at the tank so the carbrator will butn dry. seems to work fine. Frank.

Roger, I haven't saw any specs on the 3000 series, but I'm just guessing they will have a bit more horsepower, probably more creature comforts, and there has been rumor of a cab option. These are just second hand romors and my guessing, so don't take it to the bank just yet. You'll never be sorry of your new tractor, they're the greatest therapy ever invented, I spend about 15 hours a week on mine just mowing plus lots of loader, box blade, and backhoe work. Have a ball. I'm not sure if brands other than Deere offer a 3pt. weight box option for their front loaders. In most cases it seemed to make more sense to me to put the weight box money toward a box scraper, then you have your rear ballast plus a useable piece of equipment. Enjoy your day. Frank.

You've got lots of good suggestions toward a cure for your problem so I won't offer anything only what doing it wrong a couple times has taught me. So far I've had a concrete floor poured in three garages over the years. All are insulated wirh no heat. First two, the floor slopes toward the door, park the warm car or pickup, the snow and ice melt off run toward the door and freeze the door gasket to the floor plus make a neat little ice dam that the water won't run over till I chip it away. Third one I asked the contractor if he would pour it to my specs rather than his, he said OK. This garage/building is bigger 46X46, three overhead doors. the floor slopes toward the doors to within about six ft. of the doors, then from the doors it slopes into the building to a floor drain where the slopes meet. Works great, no more frozen door gaskets. The contractor did an excellent job, I think they used a laser for the slopes, there are no puddles of standing water with only one floor drain. Maybe this will help someone else out. Frank.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Firebird, but I do have Deere canopys on my 4000 series Deere tractors. they're a neat well fitting unit, but noise was a real problem, we solved that by puting some regular Deere cab foam between the fiberglass top and the frame of the canopy. It wasn't much of a job, still looks neat and did solve the noise problem. I'd sure hate to be without them mowing on these warm summer afternoons. Check my pictures for a look see. Have a great day. Art, thanks for digging out all the info for us. I had'nt given the three stage gear trans behind the hydro unit much thought, but you're right, using low range in the newer three speed tannys does give the hydro unit lots more mechanical advantage than the older two range systems. A prime example was in the "20" series Deere combines which had a hydro ahead of a four speed transmission. If you had a wet fall harvesting in the mud it wasn't hard to get the hydro fluid temperature warning light to come on running in third gear, but droping back to second gear let the hydro spin faster taking lots of stress off of it. You're dead right on the second part of your post in that hydro tractors serve two main purposes, the greater of the two being a PTO tractor where the majority of your tractors power is being consumed by the PTO driven unit with the tractive part of the power being of lesser need. Second, they are a transmission of convenience where absolute fuel effeciency is not an important factor. I do run the wife's lawn tractor now and then and it is pretty neat to have that infinite speed range. With proper use and maintenence hydro units have a reputation of nearly never wearing out. So it all boils down to what anyones personal preferences for ease of operation or how important absolute fuel effecincys really are. My sermon for the day. Frank.

bobodude; A good dealer will have you stop by to demonstrate the proper use of your new tractor and it's attachments before delivery. A good dealer will have allready did their best to check for any leaks, malfunctions, etc. Malfunctions can occur later that were'nt apparend during the prep of your tractor, and there again by having a good dealer there should be no problem as long as it's a reasonable request. Avoid discount out of state dealers who don't do those things. Just my thoughts. Frank.

Make sure you have the correct owners manual for your tractor and follow the maintinece scheule to the letter. Never use anything except what the book calls for. Sometimes manufacturers will change their mind on a lubricant or filter type after the book has been printed so check with a dealer on that too. Most tractors use a common fluid for the trans, diff, PTO, and hydraulic system, some older tractors used a separate system for the hydraulics. Never use "Discount Store" oils or lubricants, you might save a few bucks now but you'll pay dearly later. Have a great day. Frank.

Matt; You do have a puzzler there, Beagle has you on the right track. Sounds like you've likely found the relief valve for the whole system. You may have allready tried this but try switching the hoses in the quick couplers so that the lever has to move in the oposite diection from normal to curl the bucket. If then you're getting the same response only in thwe opposite directions the either you have a bad spool or something is restricting the return flow thru the valve spool to the sump. Quick disconnect couplers or "Pioneer Couplers" as they are commonly called do malfunction at times, normally a broken spring in a tip will cause the circut to "Slam" to a stop, a weak spring or derbris can cause partial flow, make sure they are fully coupled also. Any of the "Big Three" Blue, Orange, or Green build good equipment. I'll just go back to my old stance of picking the dealer before you pick the brand, having a good dealership to work with is 90% of your satisfaction with the product with any of the big three. I've been a Green tractor person for years with the same dealership. My 4000 tractors have had some ocasional problems, but nothing that the dealer was'nt happy to take care of. I've never driven a 790 or a 990 Deere, but from my knowledge of them they are a more basic tractor than the 4000 series. There was a recent discussion on the board about the smaller operator station on the 790 and 990 tractors being uncomfortable for a larger person to fit into. I'm a bit on the rotund order myself but I find the 4000 series to be plenty roomy for me. Have fun shoping. Frank.

Your symptoms sound lots like a control valve that doesn't get the spool moved far enough or too far to be in the right position for full flow to the line. Check to see if perhaps a stick or something has got caught in the linkage from the control lever to the valve body, or a pin that has came out or something thats not letting the valve spool move properly. Other things could be a quick coupler with a broken or weak spring. Seems like if you kinked or mashed a line that the bucket would work hard in either direction. hope this helps. Frank.

Mike, I'm not quite your size (275), but I'm comfortable on a 43 or 4410 Deere. I'm both over 60 and overweight with some stiff joints. I don't recall the price of them but you can order a rear view mirror kit for either tractor, I've got mirrors on both mine and would'nt be without them. Go try one on for size and see how it fits. Some of this new electronic stuff I guess we just have to accept, but what was wrong with a dodge truck like I owned from 1975 (new) till 2003? It was a D300 one ton with the 360 engine and the 727 automatic. It had a livestock and grain box on it with an electric hoist that worked flawlessley. I paid 4000.00 for it outright/ truck, box, hoist, whole smackeroo in 75. That old tonner never drew an easy breath, 90% grunt work. The 360 engine never gave up, the 727 tranny finnaly went out in 2001, a local shop gave it a complete overhaul and a two year warranty for 375.00. So I question why we need all of this electronic follishness when the old "Tonner" as we allways called it gave service like that? Frank.

Chief; I've not actually saw a twenty series other than pictures and product lireature, but I fully agree that I don't want to give up the mid frame size so far as being handy. The large frame models just look too clumbsy for my needs. Doing loader, backhoe, or any type of tractive work power has never been a problem with the 4310 or the 4410, I run out of traction first. Even tho the rated horsepower of the 43 and the 44 are pretty similar, after using both on heavy PTO work those extra ten or so extra cubic inches in the 44 do show up when that little extra is needed. I average about 6 to 10 hours per week with the MX5 or the Landpride 84 in. RMFM doing road ditch or field waterway mowing and what with the rainy spring and summer we've been having the grass sometimes gets ahead of me, so that's when the litle extra in the 4410 shows up. Work has never been so much fun since I've gotten those little tractors. Have a great week. Frank.

I've really neveer taken the time to look the Fontier line over but I've also heard that they are Woods machines which have had a good reputation for years. On the other hand I have quite a few pieces of Landpride from their largest rear mount rotary tiller to their smaller box blades, landscape rakes, finish mowere, etc.. I've really never been dissapointed with the performance of any Landpride machine I have, so I'm kind of a creature of habit, when the need arises for another piece of equipment I just go get a Landpride. Oliver; unless you are experienced with modern electronics our ability to do much more than basic mainenence is getting pretty limited on the newer tractors that have most everything controled or monitored by an electric gizmo or computer. One reason for high labor rates at the dealership is their need to own the high dollar equipment to test all these things. Really for normal oil changes, etc. not much more is needed than the tools you'd have to maintain your pickup. The owners manual is your guide to the proper lubricants, don't use cheap discount store brands, use the brand and grade of oil, grease, filters, etc. that your owners manual calls for. Somtimes a manufacturer will change their recomendations now and then so it isn't a bad idea to check with your dealer once a year or so. James. No, not all greases are the same, there is clay base, non clay base, high temp, low temp, etc., etc., etc.. So use only what your owners manual calls for. Frank.

jamesrm1; glad to hear about you having a great dealer, that is worth lots more than saving a few bucks on the purchase then having a service orphan. I'm sure that our tax dollars ar paying somebody doing a study of us trying to find out why these little tractors are so habit forming. I spent seven hours on the 4410 yesterday mowing road ditches and enjoyed every minute of it, relaxation I guess it's called. Keep on diggin. Frank.

ronbo14; Welcome to the world of tractors, you're going to like it. When you use the term "Grader Blade", I assume you mean a 3pt. mount rear blade compared to a box scraper. Unless you get into super heavy rear blades for 100+ HP tractors they are nearly useless for tearing up compacted soil, they just ride up over the hard surface. A box blade on the other hand if it has scarifier teeth will tear up undisturbed soil plus you can retract the teeth once you've loosened the soil then the box blade will pull the soil to where you want to leave it. My thoughts would be to get a box blade with scarifier teeth first then when the budget allows get a landscape rake to fine grade with. In loose soil or newly spread gravel a landscape rake has amazed me with what it will do, so I use it quite often. Ask your Kioti dealer to properly size a box blade and posssibly a landscape rake for your new tractor and I think you'll be happy. good luck. Frank.
