My Dealer painted the top end JD yellow, it won't tell you the bucket is dead flat, but it's real close. Mine is on the 430 loader on the 4410. Frank.

ncrunch32; Thanks for the compliment on the library. Yes that was built a couple years ago for a client in our plant. Really you're only seeing one wall of a three wall componet system. This unit was made of solid quarter sawn white oak with some walnut used as an accent color in the trim pieces. It was finished with a clear Minwax finsh so as not to cover the natural flake in the white oak. We try to not use any plywood if possible, but there are times when that is the most logical choice, in that situation we have the equipment to manufacture our own plywood to keep the match of the wood as consistent as possible. We also manufacture our own trim for the same reason. We've allways felt quite privleged to work for the owners of this home, and have did other rooms for them in the past. I just looked at your pictures, that's a real nice place you have, my only question is if the boat is powered by what is in the beer keg under it? Keep smiling, Frank.

Hamilton; I guess I did'nt address the second part of your question. If your spindles are all free to turn by hand it still takes some effort ot turn the gearbox shaft due to pulling tight belts around pulleys etc.. To be sure of your gearbox take the drive belt to the spindles off and try turning the gearbox by hand with no belts attached. It should'nt take much effort to turn it by hand, while you're doing it also check your shafts for bearing play, end play, etc. Most gearboxes come apart rather easily, so if you're in doubt have a look inside before expensive things start happening. Do yourself a big favor and buy the used domestic. Yes the domestics have tons of foriegn parts in them, but you'll have a dealer network to take care of you when service and parts are needed. I've heard of a few folks buying those assemble it yourself "Box Jobs" form overseas with scanty instructions that are written in an unreadable language. Most regretted the day they ever heard of them. Frank.

Oliver; from the type of work you're describing I'd say the R4's would be your best choice. Turf tires are about as rare as woodpecker lips around here anymore on a compact. I demo'd a front wheel assist 4000 series Deere with turfs once and on wet grass it would'nt pull its self up a hill with a rear mount finish mower. I routinely drive over the lawn with the R4's and unless it's super wet you have a hard time finding a track. I know of a couple dealers who just aren't much interested in a trade in with turfs anymore. Frank.

I'm wondering why someone hasn't came up with some sort of a motion/sound/light detector kinda like the alarm things on a car that honk the horn, (usually till the battery goes dead). Seems like back in the seventys or eightys that driveway alarms got kinda popular but I haven't heard much about them since. I don't know much about dogs, but I'm sure if your dog bit a thief you'd get sued even tho the thief stole your tactor. Anybody know something about alarm systems? Frank.

snmhanson: I've been around the block a time or two with air compressors, so thought I'd share my experiences. First one I owned came from TSC probably 40 years ago. It had a cast iron single cylinder pump and must have had a good quality motor. Finally my needs outgrew it so I got an 80 gal. upright with a two stage pump and a portable air tank to take air out of the shop. Little did I know that by then even respected names in the compressor industry were selling light duty aluminum pumps with motors that did'nt have enough torque in cold weather to run the machine unless you kept a heat bulb on the motor. After throwing away 400.00 on that limp thing I put in a 500 gal four cylinder industrial machine that you simply can't use enough air to get ahead of even with several air tools running at the same time. If you really only need nail gun and easy potrability we use a pancake for around 200.00 that will do everything you need, but if you move up to impact wrenches, air sanders etc. it won't be big enough, so it's kinda your call. Check the CFM. and at what pressure the pump will produce then check the tool you'd like to use to see if it can keep up. Just my thoughts, Frank.

Connie: You indeed have a problem, My thoughts for the short term would be to hire a neighbor or a mowing service to take care of your immediate needs. Sounds like you and hubby both could uses some rest till his injury heals. Not knowing what part of country you're in I'm wondering if there are any Belarus dealers still in business and about parts avalability. Here in the upper midwest a Belarus is pretty much an orphan, I would'nt have a clue where to find a dealer who could work on one. Unless Dads tractor has a sentimental value, and depending on how serious the repair job could get why not let someone else take care of the mowing for now then look into a much more user friendly late model or new compact from one of the big three in the business, Kubota, Deere, or Ford New Holland. All three have a great dealer network and parts inventory, plus service people who can help you out in a pinch. Just my thoughts, Frank.

R4's are almost standard equipment around here any more. I don't think I've ever saw a midsized compact with R1's, and turf's are getting to be quite rare. the first CUT I ever drove the dealer sent out a 4000 series Deere with a 3pt. finish mower. I was mowing a road ditch till I encountered a bit of water in the grass and I was stuck. It's awfully hard to find tracks in the lawn behind R4's unless it's super wet. I've heard of dealers being hard to trade with if you're trading in a tractor with turf's, seems nobody is interested in a used compact with turf tires. Frank.

Itsgottabegreen; You're like the fellow on TV with his new treasure hunting do-dad that finds the 25 thousand dollar ring at the beach. I know of some collectors who would almost kill for one of those, but I think they want first year production. Most of my "vintage" things or JUNK as the Mrs. calls them are usually just one serial number too soon or too late. Have a good one. Frank.

The new twenty series model numbers sure are confusing. The smallest of the new models is the 4120 (43 HP) which would seem to indicate it being a newer model of a 4110 and the 4320 (48 HP) as being a new version of a 4310, but there not. All the twenty series announced so far are large frame 4000 series. I fully expected a cab with air and heat as an option, but so far I haven't seen that mentioned. Frank.

Art; I really don't know how much lead Deere uses or recommends, but it's real easy to tell if you're close by following the guage mark left by corn planter when you make the nest pass trying to keep the center of the tractor on the mark. While planting you are usually in fresh worked soil that the tires sink into a bit. If you find it hard to keep the tractor on the mark your lead is too little, when your front tires ar pulling their share of the load she'll stay right on the mark without wandering. In heavy tillage your wheel slip allways exceeds the lead percentag so it is cancelled out. I usually watch the slip percentage readout and try to ballast the tractor to keep total slip between 6 and 10% under full load. I don't know for sure about the other series but the 8000 series Deeres turn the front wheel assist off soon as you touch either brake pedal for an end row turn around then it kicks back in when you let off the brake, that makes turning lots easier on things. Check the yellow pages for specialty outlets that handle belts, hoses, V-pulley drive systems, etc., they will likely have a source or can lead you to one. Hope this helps. Frank.

Oliver; Most any TSC store or Fleet Farm will have the heavy hinges you need. I don't know a lot about horses, but I do know they like to chew on stall boards, so avoid any lumber thats treated with the green preservative most of that has some arsenic in it. We buy some rough sawn planks from the sawmill for heavy construction. If they're not kiln dried they will likely warp as the lumber dries out then your doors won't fit too well plus they're real heavy to handle. Probably your best bet is to use standard dimension lumber from the lumber yard and as needed replace the top board the horse chews up. I hope someone else chimes in her cause I'm kinda dim on the care of horses, I've built barns but never owned a horse. Good luck. Frank.

If you're planning to use a big round baler then a compact is out of the picture, they take an 80 to 120 HP tractor. For 12 acres why not hire the baling done and get a smaller (60 HP)used farm tractor to do the mowing, raking, bale moving, and your loader work. A compact tractor just is'nt big enough to move big rounds. Something on the order of a 3010 Deere or 656 Farmall with a 3pt. hitch depending on condition could run you anywhere from 5 to 7000.00. A good used loader with a hydraulic bucket would run you from 8-1500.00. Have a great day, Frank.

Brokenarrow; Sorry to stir up a subject that I know less than nothing about. I've never attended a pro football game and only a couple college games in my life. About the most I can tell anyone about football is that some big guy must yell "KILL", they all jump on a big pile of humanity then some guy in a striped shirt blows a whisle and waves his arms franticly about something. The coaches get mad, a lot of beer gets drank, lots of brats get ate. When it's over the loosers all tell you why their coach is an idiot and should be fired, the winners drink more beer and criticise their coach anyway. I would assume that the Packers have a stadium in Green Bay, I really don't know that for sure but if so I really would like to someday see a pro game there. Someone said that in Wisconsin you folks drive on the other side of the road at breakneck speeds, (maybe it's all that cheese getting to you). Once in a while some beer joint gets up an old folks tour on a Tri States Bus to a geme so we may make it after all. All in fun, Frank. P. hwongusa; I can't say I've ever heard the term "Gold Star Certified". It must be a Deere recognition of a dealer for outstanding sales, service, customer satisfaction, or something on that order. Yes dealer support is extremely important to you. Seems like I have one of those things happen now and then that nobody ever heard of that happening before type deals. It keeps me pretty dealer loyal when my dealer allways steps up to the plate and takes care of it without any hassle. I'm not familar enough with the 2210 to know how they lift the MMM, so be sure that the dual misd selective valve is'nt needed for the MMM. You ask about a ballast box, does that mean you're going to get a FEL? If so you will need the mid valve for it. I've never installed one myself so I don't know what's involved. I'd sure recommend ordering the valve with the tractor, it won't be long before you're going to want a loader and other attchments, the last two Deeres I've bought I ordered with the third valve for a rear outlet.
