A Merry Christmas in return, we have an over abundance of snow and cold weather here in the Iowa tropics so Santa should be able to get to me this year.
I've been surprised at Deere parts prices in both directions. I needed some hood parts for a ten year old mower last summer and was almost afraid to ask the cost, but they were quite reasonable and already painted. The other surprise was that they were in stock, so I must not be the only clumbsy mower driver.

I'm far from an expert painter, but have did a bit but not on plastic, so I won't offer any advice there.
My comment would be that if you want the Gator to look original you need to buy John Deere paint and their thinner. My experience trying to use a generic thinner just makes a mess that won't spray. Paint stores claim to be able to duplicatre the original colors, but no they can't, at least the paint people I tried. A major brand, they were real close, but no cigar.
I don't know if Gators are painted lawn and garden green, new generation green or classic green, there is a difference.

I really don't know what PIN stands for but I'm guessing the number you indicate or a similar number would indicate the serial number of an engine or frame of a tractor.
An example might be S/N DTM 3500045, not a real serial number but just an example. Sometimes parts are updated to fit where the original came from but have been improved, such as, after S/N DTM 3500045. The letters preceding the number sometimes indicate what options were on the tractor when built, like the M may stand for hydro drive, T may indicate diesel engine, etc.

Electric clutches like most lawnmowers us to engage the deck drive are similar to the clutch your car uses to operate the air conditioning compressor. I don't think it hurts the clutch to engage it at full throttle, but the drive belts that give the instant squeal are being stressed more than need be. I usually go to half throttle before snapping the switch, at half throttle you aren't likely to stall the engine, and your belt life will be extended.

The compact tractors I'm familiar with that have the standard 540 RPM rear PTO use a multi disc clutch that is activated by hydraulic pressure from the main hydraulic pump of the tractor. Some are modulated meaning the engagement and disengagement of the clutch is done on a gradual pressue increase or decrase to keep from the "Slam" effect of instant engagement. I stll feel lots better slowing the engine to half throttle to start something that has lots of heavy rotating mass like a bush hog type rotary mower.

How many blades were used on an 84 inch deck? Was that a Ford/NH attachment, or an aftermarket mower?

A bit of a similar experience quite a while back. I got hold of a "B" Farmall with a Woods belly mower to cut road ditches and field borders, waterways, etc. I don't remember how wide the cut was or how many blades, but it was wider than the "B" had power enough for unless you mowed real often. It was quite a clumbsy affair and not having a live PTO in the B made things awkward to shift to reverse, etc. It was great for the times, but things are better now.

Major brand dealerships have contacts with shortline companys who supply things of that sort. Before Deere sold the "Training Seat" they call it, I got one from a shortline company thru the Deere dealer for my Deere 7810.

I can relate to a lot of the things you mention being handicapped. 99% of all people I encounter young or old are very considerate and helpfull. Just this past week a hip specialist has me on the list to do a double hip joint replacement one in April and one in July. He says my chances are 99% favorable that I will walk again without a walker, cane, or crutches. Maybe I'll get a chance to help others that have helped me. This fellow does 500 hip replacements per year, so I'm sure he knows what he's talking about.

On the lighter side. Next time the car is at the dealer for service I'm going to ask if they can install a speedometer on the passenger side of the dash. Then possibly the Mrs. can stop constantly asking how fast or slow I'm going.

Being the dealer said they are unsure where the leak is coming from tells me this is not something that is a normal occurance at that many hours. Could be simple as a seal, a cracked oil line, or hair line crack in a major casting. Yes parts would be available, even with your own labor the parts could cost three bucks for a seal or three thousand + for a major casting. You likely could buy it, just ignore the lrak and add maybe a quart of fluid in a year and forget the whole matter and get along fine, who knows. Do as you please, but if my money were on the line in the as is condition you describe 3-4,000.00 wouild be tops.

I don't want to get too pushy about how you spend your money, but being you mentioned buying a ballast box, I'll make a comment or two.
Unless you're concerned about it being too wide or clumbsy a ballast box is something I'd skip and put the money toward a good quality box blade. It serves the same ballast purpose plus a lots more usefull. Mine is a Land Pride I've had since the tractor was new. I leave it on anytime I'm not using the three point for something else. The loader has never been off the tractor, if I use a rear mower or tiller I just drop the bucket off.
I've never saw a box blade manufacturer recommend doing what I use mine for so I guess if I break it I'm on my own. When we get a nasty coat of ice on the gravel drive I use the box blade just like I would for dirt in the summer. The teeth rip the ice loose and the box brings it along to where I want it. I don't use tire chains so traction is my safety device to protect the teeth and blade, if the tooth catches something too hard the tractor just stops and spins, just lift the blade and away you go.

Which manual makes the front weight recomendation, the Lorenz or the New Holland?
I won't over ride any advice given in an owners manual but it seems like an odd restriction. A front loader/rear snowblower are a dream combination and widely used. A front loader weighs much more than two front weights. Humm???

I've never owned a snowmobie so I'm not offering any advice. I'm just curious too. Are snowmobile engines all two cycle using a gas/oil mix or are they four cycle?
A local club uses a trail across our farm and it is interesting how fast they can go.
Whenever snowsmobiles first became a fad it must have been in the 70's sometime, some friends bought a his and hers. They abandon them after a couple seasons, his comment was that he spent more time fixing than riding. They've likely been improved since then.

A Thanksgiving greeting to you and all the great folks here at TP.
This is the first year that we aren't having a dinner here at home, the kids think Mom desrves a rest. Todat at the youngest daughter's, Sunday at the youngest son's house.
We have plenty to be thankfull for, we, our kids and grandkids are all in as good of health as can be. Our son's cancer is in remission. Everybodys jobs are still holding together. The LP tanks ae full, freezer is full of last summer's garden produce, the tv and the internet all work fine. Yes we have a lot to be thankfull for.
We try to help the local food banks, and the local Deputy Sheriff's assoc. with their efforts to help the less fortunate.

Harvey pretty well covered things except is it a four wheel drive or two wheel drive? If it is a two wheel drive, I'd wait for a 4 wheel drive unless it is WAY under the market.
I've never owned a 1070, but a couple people I know who do say they are bulletproof. I don't think any of the 1070's were hydros, a 9 speed manual shift I think.

I've got two identical Deere 345 mowers with the 611V water cooled Kawasaki engines. One has six hundred something hours the other one five hundred some hours. Your engine is bigger a 745V but I think pretty much the same design.
I did notice a sticker on the side of one of my engines that gives the expected lifetime of the engine as 1000 hours, the other doesn't have the sticker.
I sometimes stop by the Deere dealership to visit a bit with the head of lawn and garden service. He is a neighbor kid, probably early fourties now but still a kid to me. He's been there since high school so I consider him knowing his stuff. I asked him about the 1000 hour expected lifetime sticker on the engine. He laughed and said it must have been some kind of thing to keep someone from suing Deere for an early engine failure. He went on to say that the 611V engine has had a good reputation with only one he remembered failing early from neglect, and that he knows of several that he has worked on with near 2000 hours on the original engines.

I have a very similar situation with a pumpkin and squash about the same size. I've never used one of those little discs, but they never looked heavy enough to cut much trash.
How I handle it is going over the patch several times with my rear mount finish mower going a bit lower each time. I don't know how fast I go but pretty slow to give the mower time to chew things up. I just till it after that and never have any problem, the trash pieces are small enough to just mix in.

I've never serviced a Kubota, but most tractor servicing is pretty similar to any other brand.
With average skils and basic tools you should have no problem.
Get out your owners manual it will show you the drain points, filter locations, refill amounts, etc.
You will get differning opinons on this but I'm big on using the fluids and filters branded by and sold by the manufacturer of the tractor. You can buy cheaper, but the difference in the cost of the fluids and filters is peanuts compared to the first cost or too soon repairs of your tractor.
Kubota along with Deere, Ford/NH, or what ever brand want your tractor experience to be good and last a long time so it only seems logical that they would sell the products to make it last a long time.
A happy customer is a repeat customer.

You are making South Carolina sound more and more appealing. Not too hot, not too cold, play in the dirt all 12 months, and just getting the drift that you aren't in the wall to wall people district.
Up till this weekend we had one of the most perfect falls in recent memory, but I'm afraid reality has set in, a few snow flakes today. I was even just moving dirt from one pile to another pile then taking it back to the first pile just to enjoy doing it. The Mrs. just don't understand tho, she even hinted something about me being nuts, and no snacks were served.
Got any real cheap farms for sale? I'd kinda hate to sell out here tho. In today's paper 140some acres about five miles north of me is still open for cash rent bids, current bid is 305.00 per acre for a two year contract.

We had a good old neighbor, RIP, who went to Minnesota every summer "Fishing" with a bunch of drinkin buddies. I don't think he owned a fishing pole, they bought some fish on the way home. As much as that man drank it is hard to believe he missed a curve with his Dodge Royal Lancer and died in a car crash, stone sober.

The fender of my 4310 Deere has a built in tool box, not real big but big enough. The bigger the toolbox the more stuff you cram in that you never use.
I have to get around with a walker that I take along in case I need to get off the tractor. The 430 loader has a little release lever for removing the loader inside the frame on the left side where I hang my folded up walker between the tractor hood and the loader frame.
