Bob; OK a light bulb just came on here. I had a Sears table saw long time ago that the "V" pulley would walk off the end of the arbor shaft. Turned out that the shaft was steel and the pulley was pot metal type soft casting. Over time the hole in the pulley wore its'self a bit bigger and the shaft remained the same size. The pulley did have a square key with a set screw pushing down on the squarw key to hold things in place. So I'm wondering if your bottom wheel is fastened to the shaft in the same manner as my belt pulley was, and maybe the hole thru the wheel has worked it'self a bit out of size? I replaced the pulley and things went fine. Frank.

I agree with KW, they all have their place. Myself I don't care for hydros, too much powwer waste, I've driven them but just never liked them. But I also know nothing about foreigh tractors. Frank.

Auer; That's a nasty way to start your summer, sorry to hear of your problem.
I've welded an engine block or two and some other cast iron things, but not knowing what the housing is made from, it would be hard for me to advise on welding it.
First is the housing a dry chamber or contain transmission fluid?
My father never owned or operated a welder but could fix most anything with strap iron, rivets, bolts,(used), and whatever else he had around. So to your point about adding a subframe of some sort to support the two halves in good enough alignment to make the tractor work might be an option. Being no parts or salvage tractors are available you have nothing to loose by trying most any method to repair. Frank.

KW; After the dealership I refered to went out of business I started hearing some tales from people who trusted them to do the right thing, but as it turned out they were cheating the customer big time. So after the synthetic gear lube I passed on I kind of doubt that if they did change it at all that it would have been anything but common gear oil, how would I have known what they did while waiting in the comfy waiting room dozing off to elevator music. Free coffee and cookies, WOW.

I have a real hard time going along with the Obama plan to dish out billions to insolvent corporations, and yes I know it started in the Bush administration. Now if the Obama plan is so great why didn't they stop the billions of giveaway money that we will have to cover sometime. Seems better to let some big timers go down than to take all of us down with taxes.
Those who were so greedy, big finance, labor unions, corporsate bosses, etc. would have a tough lesson to learn.
It's hard to put a blame on those who were encouragesd to go in debt to the point that those who were loaning to them know they could never make it work. But on the other hand those willing to take such risky loans should also have shown some responsibility too, this one is a hard call.
Credit cards weere a good idea in their beginning until greed took over on the part of the card issuers, again greed is the culprit.

Rich, My rear mower is an 84 in. but that is just a bit too wide to do a nice level job, I wouldn't go over 72 in.
I'm in northern Linn couinty, with some other vacation property in Fayette county. Frank.

Joe, welcome to the board, always good to hear from new posters. The tractor and mower prices I know nothing about, but the tiller does seem a bit high. I've never heard of a Maschio brand tiller, but if it is of any comparison I did buy a Land Pride, (American made) 58 inch last year for 1750.00. Frank.

KT; I'd give the goat milk a try, might have already had it and didn't know it.
I had a nice visit with one of the dairy goat operators this past winter. Said he used to milk Holsteins, but he can feed five or six goats with what one cow ate plus he gets more per hundred for the milk. He told me but I forgot how much an average goat produces daily. Anyhow he said he comes out a bit better with goats than cows. A bulk truck picks his up three times a week and goes to a dairy in SW Wisconcin where it is made into cheese. Have a big slice of cheese, good for you, I eat my share. Frank.

I think the 3320 is a sister to my 4310 with a different dress on. I use it for farm maininence, backhoe work, mowing, whatever comes along and have never wanted anything bigger or different. It's been as reliable as you can get, with that kind of deal, I'd grab it. Frank.

Another mystery. we have two homes in separate communitys both served by the same power company. Power cost in one home is .109 per KW, other house is .154 per KW. I tried calling them onece to ask why but after five munitues of mechanical voices telling me to press something for something else, you know the rest of that BS, I just gave up.

Our son who drove genuine HumVee's in the service got a kick out of some friends who were bragging to him how their new Hummer was the same as the real thing. The advertising industry is one of the most powerfull in the country, they have ways of convincing people to buy things that they don't need or are completely impractical.

I didn't read any of the old posts but is this a cast iron housing that possibly could bne welded and renforced? I'm afraid you are pretty much stuck with fixing rather than trading. Anyone trading it in is going to allow lots of margin to put it back into resale condition.

Like Auer said, get with a good LOCAL mainline dealer, Deere, Ford/NH/CaseIH who will be around when you need service and parts. Tell him/her what you need or want to acomplish. The reason I stress local is they will be there to take the heat or thanks which ever occurs for their advise on your purchase.

EW; Make your life easier and far safer. Just pick up a rear mount or midmount mower wirh a chain on the loader bucket, flip it over on it's back and work in comfort.

Joel, the cylinders on any of the equipment will still retain fluid whether retracted or extended, granted a bit less when retracted. This is one of my reasons for always using the fluid that the manufacturer suppplies or recommends to avoid mixing unlike fluids. Doing this might not save the world, but I just feel better about it.

There really isn't a set speed to till at, you will just kind of know when it's right, I don't remember whether I go one MPH, but likely less than one. If you have a large commercial garden then speed could be a factor, but I just do a home garden. Eight inch depth is pretty deep for a common rear mount tiller, probably six inches is a more realistic maximum depth. Don't try going full depth the first pass, multiple passes are easier on the tiller and will give you a finer seedbed. A gear drive tractor will work fine, hydro is OK but not necessary.
