We used to have to polarize something when we replaced it, was that the regulaor? And also it used to be said that when you jump started another car that the surge from both alternators would burn out somebodys regulator. Is that or was that ever true? I never had it happenh, maybe just lucky. Frank.

Mario; I assume you are asking about the engine oil. If so, yes do change it, 60 hours isn't much but is still enough for acids, water, etc. to accumulate in the oil over a year's time. Follow your owners manual to the letter far as oil type and filters, don't scrimp with cheap oil or filters. Frank.

Murf; OK, one of my greatest relaxation things is mowing grass, so I never do it in a hurry, my mowing is what golf or fishing is to others. Acording to Uncle Sam's farm field maps I have after building aeria has been subtracted about 3.25 acres of lawn plus two county road ditches that connect to the lawn, so maybe 3.5-3.7 acres total to mow, it takes me about three hours. Two small trees an LP tank and a flag pole are the only things to mow around, other than the house and shed so very little time spent with that. I have no idea how fast I go when mowing, but I would compare it to a healthy adult pushing a Lawn Boy, however fast that would be. So how fast should I go and why? Knowing you do commercial mowing makes speed a factor of doing business. I see the kids going at warp speed running the commercial mowers around town, I just assumed they went that fast because the boss wasn't there. Oh, I almost forgot about the tire thing, you like turfs I like R4's, you probably drink some kind of Canadian brew, I drink MGD, (in glass), same thing. Keep warm. Frank.

Crunch, fill me in a bit. Is the Mity Mite one of those dodads you see on late night TV where the lady with a car full of kids has a dead battery during a rainsorm. She pulls this thing out of the glovebox, plugs it into the cigarette lighter and presto the car starts????

KW; After swearing never to be seen there again several years ago I did go to a Sears tool depaertment a couple weeks ago, and all I came out with is a remeinder of why I won't go there again. I'm sure I know more about how to operate the Hubble Space Telescope than the tool manager knew about the most basic of things there. Wow, why do they hire these people who know absolutely nothing about their products???? Frank.

Likely your homebilt loader is as strong or stronger than a store bought, but the liability issues of you selling it could wipe out all you have if someone gets hurt with it. Frank.

If yours doesn't already have it a hydraulic lift for the box and a Deere brand toolbox that goes across the front of the box is a real neat way to keep some tools out of the dirt and weather, and only takes up about 10 inches or so of the box. Frank.

I've really never looked at a Woods subframe hoe. Woods has a reputation for building good stuff BUT. Kubota tractor with a Kubota hoe, something expensive breaks, so long as it is in warranty and no abuse is found Kuboat takes care of it. Now Kubota tractor/woods hoe, something expensive breaks, now the who's fault is it thing comes into play. Big hassle. For that reason plus the hydraulic pressures, flow rates etc, that are properly matched with a Kubota tractor/Kubota hoe, I've just never been comfortable mixing brands on tractor mounted impliments. Mixed brands on threepoint or tow behind implements are OK with me tho. Frank.

Try the Franzen Family tractor parts at Monmouth, Iowa. 563-673-6631. Have your model and serial numbers, casting numbers, anything that can help identify what you need. I've dealt with them for years, good honest people. If they don't have it they will have a good idea where to look. Frank.

Depending on where the crack is, what critical alignment internal parts may be involved, and just the ability to get to where the crack is with a welding rod, castings can be welded. Depending on what the casting is made from cast iron is easier to most welders than aluminum altho both can be welded. I've welded engine blocks, gear bolxes, etc., as long as they were cast iron, aluminum I'm not very good at. Frank.

I haven't priced a MMM for a compact lately, but did at one time price one for my 4310 Deere and ended up with a rear mount finish mower because of the cost difference. I'll agree with the others a good used rider would likely cost less than the MMM and not have the hassle of mounting and dismounting it. Frank.

We learned by experience that the wall and ceiling color have a lot to do with how well you can light up a garage or any building. When we bought our summer house the inside of the garage was a real dark color, the lights just died. We painted it white and presto the same lights did twice as much good. Anyhow to your question on what kind of lights to use. The garage I just spoke of has common incandesants and my woodshop with 9 ft. ceilings has twelve of the "Curly Fry" flourescents (75's???) in an 18X46 room and do real good. In the storage part of the shed the ceiling is 16ft. and the little "Curly's" just don't do it so I used common 200W clear bulbs and the are not perfect but adequate. Frank.

Diesel engines by the principal on which they operate are just noisyer than a gasoline engine. Unless it is extremely more noisy than your other tractor and all the gauges are in the normal operating range then likely it is just the nature of the beast. Some diesels are just make more noise than others, plus any diesel engine will make more noise on a cold startup in the winter till they warm up. I can't help you with the year of your tractor, I'm just not that famillar with them. Frank.

Wally; I've had a Land Pride landscape rake for quite a few years, I've never looked at a Woods, but I doubt there is a nickle's worth of difference, they both have high quality machines. I've never had the flip down blade or guage wheels for mine. I don't even own a common rear blade anymore. I use the landscape rake for everything from spreading crushed rock, draging soil around, pulling snow, etc., and have never once saw the need for the blade attachment, the guage wheels, maybe, but I get along fine without them too. The only time a blade would do better would be to scrape a clean surface on concrete wnen you blade snow as a bit of loose snow will sift thru beteween the forks of the rake, but darn little. A landscape rake is no different than a common rear blade in that the material other than snow must be loose by some other maens like a scarfifier in a box blade as neither one will tear loose solid soil. I would buy the rake without the blade and wheels till you see how it works then if you see the need get them later. Enjoy your day. Frank.

The state of Iowa does do random testing of fuel and the accuracy of pumps, I'm sure every state does that. Just in the last month an owner of two stations was shut down and fined 40K per station for selling 30% ethanol when the punmp said 10%. I agree the physics of the product are the true answer. I use ethanol simply because I grow the corn. Frank.

auerbach: I think the reason is that in theory having the front of the deck a smidged lower that the first time the mower blade contacts a blade of grass that it is cut instead of again in theory if the blades were absolutely parallel to the ground the mower blade would keep whacking away at the same blade of grass giving it a ragged looking cut. OK Murf, how'd I do?

In the mid 80's till the early 90's I spent two terms on our local school board, wow what an education!! I could have never served another term and kept my emotions under control. At that time starting salary for a beginning teacher right out of college was if my memory serves me right around 14K. When annual sallary negotations took place we usually settled with a 3-4% across the board incresae. My blood still boils that a young energetic first year teacher trying his or her best would get maybe a 500 dollar raise and some of the older ones would get a 1500-1800 dollar raise. Experence is good and should be rewarded but as in all industrys schools are no different, there were slackers protected by the state teachers union that the local board couldn't touch. The majority of the older ones were still doing their job, but a few knowing we couldn't touch them just coasted out doing next to nothing. The only power a local board had to fire a teacher was on a morals charge, BUT, you better have lots of absolute proof or the district could end up on the bad end with a lawsuit up the wazoo. I have no idea how other state school systems operate but in Iowa the local board has probably a 10 percent control of what happens in the district and the state has the rest. I'd better quit I'm starting to get mad. Frank.

OK, I see them as part no's. 49-50-50. That's a new one on me. I think I'd want to be sure the little fuse cover was in place just for safety's sake with perhaps a piece of red hot wire falling into something combustible. Frank.

Auerbach is right, that was OK in old Farmall "H"'s etc. where 99% ran out with the first drain and there were no wet clutches, or super close tolerances to be concerned with. Expensive as the correct fluid may be it will be cheap in the long run to use it as a flush. Most modern tractors have enough clutch pack systems, internal wet brake systems, internal and external lines, three point rams, etc, etc, that all contain fluid that never drains even with every drain plug remeoved. Be sure to clean the suction screens and change any filters too. Frank.
