Sorry to hear of your injury Dennis. I just today visited a friend who is laid up with a broken ankle from falling off of or over something at his his sawmill. I'm still on a walker from a broken pelvis 18 months ago. Mine turned out to be more complicated than just a broken pelvis, but things have improved a lot lately thanks to the folks at the Mayo Clinic. I guess we all take our turn, mine could have been prevented by just being more carfull too, BUT.

Broken; My guess is they both lock in their cost with LP contracts on the board. I buy from both dealers, on takes care of the house and shed at the farm and the other supplys our vacation home. The guy that I prepay in June just goes by the amount you used in the past season times the agreed on price and the other guy that don't take prepay you just pay for the number of gallons at the agreed price whenever he comes by to refill the tank. Right at this moment the Gator is in a shed at the farm, but I'm not at the farm so I can't go out and check the tire size. I do remember that when we bought the XUV in May of 07 that the dealer did recommend an optional tire that we did buy, I have no idea of the size, but it must be OK as I can't think of anytime it was a problem. Very few things in this world that I absolutely hate, but on that list string trimmers would be number one. I think there are four or five of them around here yet and maybe one of them might have a weak pulse yet. But, I've discovered a new brand of trimmer that takes no gasoline, makes no noise, no flying derbris, no back ache. ROUNDUP, greatest thing since canned beer. Enjoy your holiday. Frank.

EW; You touched on the density of the rubber used in tires. A few years ago Deere had a problem with rear tires on some of it's bigger ag tractors. Corn stubble or soybean stubble would push thru them causing leaks. I don't remember the tire brand involved, but the rubber was just too soft. Frank.

Much as I am a staunch AMERICAN built fellow, and I know my little Deere is powered by a rice burner, etc.. Anyhow all the local grain elevators have gone to Honda powered grain augers they pull from farm to farm to clean grain bins. I don't know of an elevator owner that you could PAY to put a Briggs back on an auger. The Honda's just plain START. Frank.

66 years old and I went to the first flea market I've ever attended today. Of course I, the Mrs. and the Grandkids filled the back of the Trailblazer with STUFF that we never knew we couldn't live without. Where in the world do the vendors get all that stuff? 1'st; Normally the gasket is just stuck to both the block and the oil pan, but there may be a bolt you haven't found yet, I'm not familliar with a Jimna. OK, the "Hardwood" thing, I did own a furniture plant for 35 years. The Mrs. always thought "Hardhead" would have been more approprate. I'm still pretty good at turning perfectly good lumber into totally worthless sawdust. Frank.

I have no doubt that we really did do it, but till now I kept it secret that I and George Jetson were there first with my home made moon mobile, just look for the tracks where we landed. Kinda like mthe Kennedy conspiracy folks, even after all the rooms full of classified documents were released and the wannabe hero reporters read it frontwards, backwards, and sideways not one BELIEVABLE shred of evedence led to a conspiracy. Sam, I'm not familliar with a 485 hoe, but the 448 is a refinement of the 48. I've had a 48 for my 4310 for years and it has been a good trouble free unit, so I'd expect the 448 to be everything the 48 is only maybe as bit better. Frank

I think it is a miracle that they work at all. The modern farm tractor and combine cabs have so much glass that the glass itsself it actually a part of ther structure. If you look at one there is no frame around the window or door glass anymore. From experience I know that if the AC quits you just have to quit till it is fixed, even tho some of the windows can be opened the cab is not designed to be used that way, plus all the dust that will acumulate in the cab in a hurry. I will have to agree with EW that in 100 degree heat if you are getting enough cooling to make it tolerable in the cab I wouldn't expect much more on a tractor with the horsepower of a compact. On a regular farm tractor or combine that has anywhere from 100 to 300 Hp a big enough compressor can be used to not tax the engine much, but on a compact with less than 35-40 hp a big compressor would rob a lot of available power.

Two things come to mind, a clogged fuel tank cap vent, or possibly a loose or broken hose or connection in the fuel line between the fuel tank and the fuel pump maybe sucking a bit of air. Frank.

One of our neighbors had one from the time I first knew him in the early eightys till he retired in about 2000. It was his chore tractor on a medium size livestock farm, he had a loader on it. I used to do his chores when they were on vacation and yes by todays's standards it was crude little tractor, no power steering that I rtemember but as I remember he never had much trouble with it. I was always quite impressed with how easily it would start in the winter, I think it had a Perkins three cylinder diesel???? Frank.

There is really only one reason the auto makers, appliance makers, tool makers, etc. push this product to the point that I will walk out if they don't shut up about it, and that is that it is highly profiable to them or they would'nt badger you about it to the point of making me walk out. My normal response to their blabber about how I cannot live without this protection is, "I came here to buy a car/refrigerator/table saw/whatever, if your product is so poor that it won't last beyond the normal warranty then I don't want it in the first place." I mentioned in a prior post on this thread about once buying a warranty on a Sears water softener tha paid off big for us, that is the only product warranty I've ever bought. Probably fifteen years or so ago I read somewhere that Sears's biggest income producer was intrest on their credit cards, second was product warrantys, third was reatil sales. Frank.

Dave; First welcome to the board, we can always use some new blood around here. In todays high and sure to get higher energy costs we're all looking for lower cost heating, but maybe before buying the pellet stove you might check with your electric supplier. I don't know how much longer this will contuinue but right now electric radiant heat is the lowest cost compared to LP or natural gas here in Eastern Iowa. Frank.

If you just got the I-Match coupler perhaps the dealer would trade it back for a brand with an adjustable height top hook such as a Land Pride and I'm sure other shortline brands have that feature too. Frank.

Susan; Just my two cents worth, If you haven't finalized the deal for the tractor yet check the cost difference between a weight box and a box scraper. A weight box is just that a weight box, but a box scraper is one of the most used three point tools I have plus it takes the place of a weight box for the loader. I've had lots of past experience with fluid in tires for weight on farm tractors and the memories aren't pleasant ones. Iron costs more than fluid, but rusted rims and the mess you will encounter with a tire puncture will make the iron seem cheap. Frank.

Have you checked the linkage from the shift lever to the transmission? I think some series had a lever clamped to a shaft coming out of the transmission that could have worked loose too. Frank.

Joel, the reason I brought up the power going to their head thing was from a personal experience after the flood of 93 with an elderly relative's home that I was in charge of caring for his business. This was a very small town thing, prbanbly 15 homes afected, none washed away, just needed repaired. I don't remember what government agency they were from, state I think? But even when trying to act in a civil manner with them they were the most arrogant, power hungry SOB's that ever walked, within a half day or so with myself and other home owners they prety much knew it was time to "Get Out Of Dodge" I hope they have sorted them out by now. But as I said this was real small time compared to what has happened now. Frank.

My 4310 is a seasoned veteran when it comes to digging out and moving rocks from farm fields. I dig them out with the #48 hoe then if the loader won't lift them I have on occasion for the bigger ones just rolled the rock by using the bucket curl to roll them ahead a curl at a time till I get them moved out of the way. The ones that the hoe won't pull out of the ground I just dig along one side of the rock and when the hole is big enough tip the rock into the hole and cover it up. Sometinmes the rock just keeps getting bigger as you dig down along it, so then you either just put the soil back and go away or call a big backhoe to get it out. Frank.
