Vern, I guess it all depends on how much time you have, a pickup truck will haul just as much as a semi, it just takes more trips. With the current needs you describe the 2520 would handle things but not in a hurry. I'd suggest going to a 3000 series not only for more horsepower, but also a heavier by 900 lbs. tractor with a bigger frame. You will likely have a front end loader before you know it and be using it lots more than you ever thought. I don't know the cost difference, but buying bigger now will cost less than trading up later. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Art; I guess you have me puzzeled a bit. I think you are upset about my comment that Case and Kubota are of equal quality or is it that my comment that a Kubota would likely have better resale struck a raw nerve? OK let me explain a bit why my comments were as they were. First off I've never owned a Case or Kubota compact. My personal experience of ownng several Case farm tractors and several IHC farm tractors was that with the exception of a model or two in both brands they were good solid tractors. That being said I based my opinion of Case compacts on the reputation of their precessors. Just this afternoon I sat on my brother in law's new 2640, (I think) Kubota, it is his second one, the other one is 25 yrs. old and still runs fine. Here again I am based my opinion of the Kubota tractors on never having heard much of any negative comment about them. I by no means have found or driven past every Case or Kubota dealership in the tri-state aeria in a 100 mile radius of Dubuque, Iowa, but my observatons are that most every Kubota dealership I go past probably has 10-25 compacts, Gator type Kubota utilitys and moweres out front, where as any Case dealership may have from none to maybe 3 at the most compacts out front. This tells me tha a Kubota must outsell the Case or the dealers wouldn't stock them. This is strictly where I got my assumption that a used Kubota would hold it's reasle better just because they seem to be far more numerous than Case around here, other parts of the cuntry I know nothing about. We both know that there are operators who can break an anvil with a rubber hammer, and others who could haul eggs in a dump truck and never crack an egg, so regardless of what the quality of either tractor coming out the factory door somebody can either destroy it or make it last 50 years. I certianly hope I havent lost a friend over something I said, so I do apologize for what ever upset you. Frank.

I would agree that if your tracrtor is a hydro drive you need to keep you throttle at near full RPM especially on heavy drawbar work of if pushing real hard with the loader. Wiuth a gear I run about 2/3 throttle but don't use the foot throttle doing anything. I never thougth that the little small dispacement engines were meant to run at low rpm's. Frank.

I have a Deere #48 hoe for my 4310 Deere tractor. It uses a subframe mount system that I think is quite similar to Kubota's subframe mount system. These are very reliable simple mounting systems that will have the hoe on or of in ten minutes or less after you have did it a couple times. I have never owned a three point mount hoe, but from the experiences of some friends and neighbors who have broken three point top links, bent the lower arms, etc. I knew there had to be a better way to mount a backhoe. It is always best to match the backhoe brand to the tractor brand, the mounting points on the tractor are correct, the hydraulic pressures and flow rates are correct for the hoe, etc. I've mounted and dismouinted mine lots and lots, and think nothing of putting the hoe on for a ten minute job. Kangaroo and Kt; If you apply liquid N (28%) after crop emergence with a broadcast sprayer significant damage can occur to the crop from the N going directly on the leaves, it is always best to inject it into the soil between the rows. Significant loss of N can occur when sprayed on the soil surface especially during hot wet periods of weather. KT is correct in that frequent low rate applications can be more benifical to crop growth, but usually the machine cost to do that overwelms the benifit. KT; Here in NE Iowa probably 95% if the nitrogen for corn is applied preplant as anhydrous ammonia, and maybe 5% in 28% liquid is sidedressed during crop growth at probably 12-18 inch tall corn. I never till a few days ago here on TP that an E-Gator ever existed, so I can't help with your problem, but I'll relate a somewaht similar situation. Sometime probably in the early 80's my parents neighbor had a fully electric riding lawn mower, I have no idea what brand it was. It seemed to work fine for a few years then the batteries and cables went bad, it had I think eight deep cycle marine batteries. The man took it to the dealer and had all the battereis and cables replaced, as I remember it was like 8 or 9 hundred dollars even back then, but it again workrd fine. it would mow for a couple hours on a charge, but not in very tall grass. From there on I lost track of it so I don'nt know how it worked from there on. Anyhow, perhaps an electric motor shop could help you, the controler is likely a stock item that is used in other applications. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Sorry, I forgot to mention getting a compact with four wheel drive is pretty imoportant. You can buy two wheel drives pretty cheap, but you won't be happy esopecially with loader work. In my first post I really meant to say that you had the livestock, not the dealer. guess I was still sleepy. Frank.

Joel; Back in my heyday when I thought I was a bigtimer we farmed/custom farmed/ran a fulltime furniture plant/and did landscaping work with two Deere compacts and the equipment to compliment them. I did all this with the help and encouragement of the Mrs., one son who worked for us fulltime and some part time workers. Today here I sit with a worn out body, still somewhat sane eating pain killers like they are candy, and enjoying our retirement more than I ever though I could. I still am building some furniture, working around the farm with the "Baby Deere" on my terms not trying to meet someone elses terms, and for the first time in my life I don't owe a banker a D*** dime. While we were in the "Fire Ball Days" so to speak I never gave a thought to insurance, then I had the same awakeining as EW, being informed that I had to have every kind of high dollar insurance known to man to still be in business in our lawsuit happy world. Anyhow the reason for all this gut spilling blabbering is to kind of soften my prior statement of "AINT FOR HIRE" You do as you have planned and enjoy it. As a friend of mine who has now passed on used to say,"You want to work real hard, save every dime you can so your widdow's secon husband can really live it up". Oh, by the way, you think Cando is small, my home trown is 1/4 that size. Frank.

The record snowfalls have finally all melted away here in NE Iowa, but now it has been raining, raining, raining. Some river and small stream flooding, fields are soggy wet. Corn planting normaly begins april 20-25 so the farmers are getting nervous. Most all the high producing land is now pattern tiled for drainage, so a week of good weather would turn things around in a hurry. Frank.

My Gator is an XUV, so I think the decals are different, but the box design is likely the same. As I understand your post you want the dimensions of where the decals fit?? As I write this my Gator is sixty miles away in a shed, so I can't help right now. One word of caution, Deere protects the copyright on logo's, emblems, decals, etc. with an iron hand. So be real carefull what ou put a Deere decal on especially if you sell the product or even give it to someone. Frank.

John; Thanks to my Uncle Nick, I've had the opportunity to try every kind of snake oil remedy known to man. In the farm to farm sales business they must have had him marked. He would buy a life insurance policy, bug dust or what ever the salesperson had to offer, he had 23 small life insurance policys from 22 different companys when he died, and every one of them were good. Anyhow he used to bring over unopened DRUMS of Esentulube, fuel conditioners, magic potents for anything known to annoy mankind. He would buy this stuff, always in large quanitys, I guess it was cheaper that way, then be afraid to use it when it showed up so he would bring it over and give it to me. So IF I had time I probably could write a book on magic potients that didn't work. One of his purchases was like ten cases of STP. Nuff from me. Frank.

I've never been involoved with loggers, but I'm sure it is a dangerous occupation. I've watched it a couple times just to see the big machines, not really for the caracters involved. People seem to have always been attracted to anything that usually involves someone getting hurt all the way back to the Romans throwing prisoners to the Lions. Most people who watch NASCAR only watch to see the wrecks. Not necessarly fact, just my opinion. Frank.

Crushed limestone can have a lot of tramp,(nails, pliers, screwdrivers, broken bolts, etc.) EW mentioned the big bar magnets under the front bumper of quarry trucks, yes I have saw those, but forgot about them. Where would you go to get one of them? Frank

Harvey has you going the right direction with the linkage rebuild. I'm sure that ford/NH will have everything you need but likely pretty pricey. I've did this before not with Ford, but a Case 1070 and it seemed that unless you started at the steering box then progressed thru every linkage componet including the bushings in the spindles below the tie rods that you just never got the shimmy all out of it. I'd suggest pricing the componets at Ford and an aftermarket parts outlet before you have at it, maybe you can just go slower and not disturb it unless it becomes a safety factor. Frank.
