Kirk; I'm not sure what TSC stocks. A regular farm implement dealership, (Case/IH- Deere- Agco) keep most all sizes and usually have US or import in stock in bulk rolls, your choice. Take your old chain with you, they will count the links and cut a new one to fit. Frank.

Woodie; if you have got the gap down to a quarter inch, then you have it about as good as it's going to get. Sliding doors aren't known for being absolute weather tight, they have to have a certain amount of cleareance fo function. There may be some way of attaching some sort of weatherstrip around it, I've never seen it done, but might be worth a try. Maybe something as simple as throwing an old piece of carpet along the crack will do it, don'r know. Frank.

Firtree; I do have to agree with you that an electriclay heated hot water floor system is more effecient than a forced air LP system. The electric/furnace/AC man we used came armed to the teeth with data to prove this point. I still chose the LP forced air for the following reasons. I don't work there everyday, so I keep the temp at about fourtyfive, but can have it to 55 or 60 in a half hour. Air conditioning was just as if not more important to me than heat, so both systems could be installed as one inside unit with a regular compressor outside. If it were to have been a fulltime comercial shop, then yes I would have did as the contrator and you have suggested. Frank.

EW; There is a firm here that specializes in cleaning up train wrecks, grain truck overturns etc, that can move grain a long ways, I'm guessing maybe 500ft.
These are big truck mounted units with probably a 2-300hp. emgine. Somewhere in your aeria there is such a service offered. I would think they could handle chips or rubber pellets just as easily as shelled corn. Maybe, maybe not? Franki.

Crunch; Glad it worked out for you. The local guy I spoke of might have been having a bad day too. I used to do like you and buy tires as carry outs and mount them myself. Then since the cars all seem to have the high dollar alloy wheels anymore I didn't want to chance breaking a wheel, so I sold the tire machine. For a while when the alloy wheels first started to be the norm he had a sign posted that he would not be responsible if he broke one. This fellow I speak of also did lots of farm tire work including flats off of skid steers and manure spreaders that had the fresh from thw feedlot aroma to them. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Geekfarmer; If my memory serves me correctly your 261 mower ia a rear mount Deere finish mower, yes it should handle that nicely and your four ft. box blade will work fine till you run out of traction. The front weights will make things work lots better for both the mower and the box blade. If you are happy with what the 650 does for you then that's all that really matters. Unless time is a restriction five acres of lawn isn't really that big of a deal, I used to mow 4 acres of lawn with a 345 Deere rider with a 54 inch deck at just about an acre an hour. If it is in reasonably good shape now, then with good care it should last you for years. Depemding on whether your tractor has the hydraulic circuts to handle a loader, you maybe could find a used front end loader to fit it too, that would make you a nice package. Frank.

Roaf3X; Nothing wrong with doing some of the 100 hour things a little sooner than the book calls for except possibly the engine oil change from the break in oil to the regular oil called for in your owners manual. I'm not familliar with when Kubota calls for their break in oil to be drained, but don't do that before the manual calls for. Frank.

Randy; Does this happen mostly in the winter? Does the tractor sit for long periods between useages? You really don't have enough hours to think about something major. I had a Case 1070 100 hp farm tractor that I used during the winter for snowblowing only. It would sit in the shed without use between snowstorms, sometimes a month or more. It would show the same symproms as your tractor, otherwise it started and ran fine. If you are seeing vapors,(steam) and drops of oil hanging on the end of the blowby tube, theh I think you are seeing, as I was, water being being evaporated out of the crankcase during extended operation when you engine is getting fully warmed up and it tends to carry some oil vapors with it that condense toward the bottom on the inside of the tube and drip off the end. Bunnspecial; Thanks for the info on the wood pellets. I see them at the fleet store right by the door and lots of people are always loading them into their pickup or car trunk, but I've never saw them out of the bag. How big are they, like ice cube size? Are they compressed wood or just wood chips? How much does a bag of them weigh? Thanks. Frank.

Art; I should have been a bit more specific in not recommending the subsoiling. In our soil types here subsoiling is pretty much a fall only operation, spring subsoiling rough's it up too much and you end up with the best quality clods you ever saw. I do agree with subsoiling deep for better root penetration, we do that here too, maybe not every year but always in the fall. Frank.

As to the boxblade being wider than the tractor tires; I have a Landpride six footer with seven scarifier teeth, (not hydraulic), on the 4310. A couple examples of why it is better being wider than the tractor, I have taken soil away from building foundations where the scraper kinda rubbed along the cement and ended up with a nice flat bottom cut. Another example is, I have a borrow pit where I load lots of fill dirt from. I can cut a nice flat bottom trench pulling the soil up out of the pit for easier loading with he FEL. The box blade would get my vote for being the most usefull three point tool I've ever owned, anytime something else isn't on the three point I have the BB on just for ballast. Another new trick I learned with it was early this winter we had an awfull ice storm , so I set the teeth down about an inch below the blade and it did a pretty good job. the teeth would tear the ice loose and the box would carry it along till it got full. EW; 14,000 in one year, that is a LOT. As anyone reading my BS has figured out I an in a pretty isolated part of the country where I don't see all that. Our local lumber yard construction crews are still building houses and pole sheds at warp speed in the worst of weather. A friend of mine who has a rather large heavy construction company, (swing hoes, several dozers, scrapers, trucks, etc.) said the other morning at coffee that he is turning down work for lack of the time to get it all done. I guess all my rambling kinda fits your bumper sticker thing. If the news hadn't told me we were in a recession I wouldn't have known it from the looks of things locally. Frank.

Kt; On one of the TV do it yourself shows a few years ago they showed a straw house being built somwhere in the south west US. As I remember they stacked straw bales the heigth of an ordinary single story house wall then plastered over both sides with an adobe type mortar, put door and window frames in and presto a house. I don't remember what sort of a roof they used, but their main points they stressed were the low cost, and the outstanding insulation qualitys. Frank.

Bvinduck; I did forget to mention that in the info from the Deere website on 48 hoes that the subframe for your series tractors is called a "Weldement". to me that says that you get a kit which is welded up to an existing subframe for the smaller tractors. Your question about the subframe being in the way for other attachments; No not anything I have encontered would call for removing the subframe. When you mount the hoe on the tractor you must remeve the three point hitch lower arms and the upper three point link, a five minute job going on or off. Mounting the hoe after subframe installation just taking you time to be sure you do the steps in proper sequence is ten minutes tops with no lifting, the tractor three point upper arms do that for you. Mounting of the hoe it'self is pretty simple long as you have parked the hoe on a reasonably level surface. Hope this helps. Frank.

EW; You are still alive??? I began to tnink you got caught under a snowdrift and just decided to hibernate there till spring. If any of you remember Billy Carter, the former President's brother ran a gas station in Plains, (I think) Georgia. He had an awfull tasting beer branded "Billy Beer" . We stoped by Billy's gas station once and bought a couple six packs, I found one of the six packs on the shelf in the fruit cellar about a year ago, all six rusted thru and empty. Frank.
