Hetric; I have the JD Tech manual for my 4310, it explains most all the systems well enough that even I with my quite limited computer knowledge and an ohm meter would feel comfortable working on it. Frank.

Looks like the old frige is kaput. We tried all the things that were suggesated, but it still stinks. It must be in the insulation somehow. The stink is gone for a while, but within a few hours it comes back. I called out utility co., they offer a fifty dollar rebate on a new frige that has the blue "Energy Star" label on it plus will pick up the old "Working" frige and give us thirty five dollars for it. Thanks to all who offered their advice, I guess it was just too far gone. Frank.

Kthompson: I had a few pictures posted a couple weeks ago, but took them down, they weren't very good or very current. I'm in the same boat with you, I have to have a son or daughter do the picture posting for me. They are all busy with their lives and don't come around as often as we would like, but with Thanksgiving just around the corner they WILL smell their Mom's cooking and all show up so I'll try again to post some better pictures then. After my crack about EW's picture I'd better "Get outa Dodge" for a few days, we will be back in a couple days. Frank.

Byagator; This past week I was visiting with a Deere dealer who had just came home form a Deere meeting that featured the new products that are coming as attachments for the XUV's. I don't remember all the things he mentioned, but dressy wheels, cabs, and lots more I can't remember now are coming. I really doubt they will offer performance items, that would crowd the line toward four wheelers. The current Gators are considerd a farm machine for insurance and liability reasons. I had an original 4X2 Gator, traded it for an HPX,then this past spring traded it for an XUV. In case byagator didn't have an HPX to campare the new one to they are as different as day and night. Everything about the new series is better, power, a bit more speed, better steering, four wheel independent suspension that is about as smooth as your pickup. Frank.

The helmets are off on this one. That is an interesting concept. Now let's say that Mack, Peterbilt, or any truck manufacturer made this a factory option where you were eliminating the cost of the conventional drivetrain from the flywheel to the differentials, the cost would have to be significantly lower. The same labor that would install the conventional drive train could be used to install the hydto drive. Humm. Oh, I did notice in their spiel that the letters CVT are used a couple times, that shouldn't be confused with the mechanical CVY's in farm tractors, again a totally differnt animal. Frank.

Docspencer; I'm a fan of Land Pride equipment, other than some Deere all my three point stuff is LP. I've got both a box blade and a tiller. As has been said the box blade with scarifiers will tear up the hard pack soil and drag it around to level things up then use the tiller to make a fine seedbed for whatever you want, lawn or garden. I find myself having the box blade on the three point whenever I don't have a mower, tiller or somethiong else on the tractor, it is a great counterweight for the loader. Frank.

Sounds like something is letting the right wheel turn too far. Is there a stop below the steering arm that has the tie rod connected to it that is supposed to keep it from turning too sharp? If so is it broken, badly worn or perhaps loose and badly out of adjustmant?

Just in reading this thread I keep thinking of a man, now deceast that had a litle Chevy 3/4 ton pickup with a wrecker on the back with a conventional winch plus an old military, (I think) winch mounted just behind the cab that had like a 3/4 inch cable, the drum must have been two ft. wide and probably 18 inches in diamater. That man pulled out more stuck combines, loaded semis, etc, etc. It was kind of comical when someone who didn't know him saw him coming with "Mighty Mouse" as he had painted on the hood. He would tie a cable or chain to a tree, big tractor, loaded truck, anything to use for a dead man and just simply pull out what ever he hooked onto. The part I often wondeded about is why he didn't pull the little wrecker in half. Frank.

Sorry, I took it for granted that the 2520 was the old series. I'm not familliar with the new 2520, but being a subcompact it likely has a category "0" three point hitch. I've never dealt with a category "0". Frank.

Ridejd; A few questions first about the 4300. What year is it, is it a four wheel drive, hydro drive or 12/12 reverser? A few were sold with two wheel drive, that takes the value WAY down. The very first 4300's with four wheel drive had a problem with the steering geometery that caused them to scuff the lawn, I think Deere replaced all those type front axles, but double check. A hydto drive will make it a bit more valuable, but not much. The 430 loaders were a good loader, the main frame, bucket, etc can be sprung from abuse, but it takes big time abuse to hurt one. Look at the welds, look for frame cracks. Park it on a level spot and lower the bucket till it almost touches the ground, is it level with the ground? If so it is likely OK. I can't tell you much about the mid mount mower, I've never had one on a compact tractor. My dealer highly recommended a rear mount finish mower because of the ease of mounting compared to a mid mount. Mine is a Land Pride 72 inch. by having a quick coupler on the three point of the tractor I can have the rear mohnt finish mower on or off in a couple minutes all from a standing position. The next issue is who are you buying the tractor from, do you know the person? Did they buy it new? Can they furnish service records, etc? It is sad that in todays business world theves and swindlers have also gotten into the world of compact tractors, make the seller produce a bill of sale or the paid note from Deere or a bank if it was financed. Now to your main question, is the price right? If everything checks out to be good I think it would be tough to find one at a dealer for much less. They are a popular tractor, when I traded my 4300 for the 4310, the dealer had it sold before it left my shed. Best of luck. Frank.

Mobilbus; I have did just as you describe with farm tractos in the past to create a second and or third circut, on a one circut tractor. I mounted the circut selector valve on the right fender, ran the single circut from the tractor thru it and could select which circut I wanted to use. It was kind of a clumbsy looking situation when done, too many hoses running too many places that seemed to always be in the way or fitings that leaked wirh an oily mess on the fender , etc. I did then and still do use the Surplus center asm a source of valves, fittings, etc. A double or triple stck spool valve with all the fittings, couplers and the rest will not be cheap, but likely less than Kubots. So all my rambling is to get you to wonder if it is worth the cost difference to have something rather cobbled up instead of a neater factory built system. Frank.

Dennis; We been gone a few days so I'm kinda catching up here. Yes that is kind of an ugly pile of nothing they dumped in your drive. We've all kind of had second chances a time or two in the past, perhaps if they are willing to make up the difference in the firewood shortage and haul away the rubbble it might work out. You always have the option of not buying from them a second time. As for the ceiling fan, would the Mrs. be real upset if you just returned the fan and somehow had some kind of floor level fans to somewhat of the same thing making the air circulate. It could be worse you know, some folks in this world don't even have a ceiling, let alone a fan. (No joke intended here). Frank.

Lakehouse; The 4310 that I currently own with the 430 loader is my third 4000 series Deere, each better than the last except for the Mickey Mouse tilt wheel mechanism. If I have my info correct a 430 loader won't fit a 3000 series tractor. If that were the case I'd go for a 430 loader, they are pretty bullet proof. A cost saving option for you would be to forego the hydro in favor of a 12/12 reverser transmission. All three of my Deeres have been 12/12's and I won't even consider a hydro on my next one, I've driven them but just never liked them or could justify the extra cost for what little benefit they have over gears. That's just my personal opinion, and you will get reams of testimony on why I'm a wacko for liking gears. I just came in from doing some loader work with the 4310, you don't even need to use your foot, just the flip of the reverser lever with your left hand, sweet and simple. Frank.

Yes I'm curious too about hitting the fiber optic line. This brings to mind a local David and Goliath story from a few years ago. Whatever utility co. owns it wanted to run a fiber optic line to our local high school. The state highway dept. wouldn't allow it in their ditch, so the utility co. moved it over a mile to a county gravel road ditch, the county didn't want it in their ditch either for fear of an employee hitting it someday. Their next move was to pay land owners to let them put it just inside the fence off county property. Most all the landowners agreed to this except my friend who's real name is David, he fought it and won, so hence the "David and Goliath" story.

Bobkro; Have you tilled this soil before? Does it have rocks, roots. etc. that would give a tiller a hard time? If you don't plan to seed till spring I would somehow do some deep (6-8 inches) this fall then let it set over winter to mellow up. You may not need a tiller at all in the spring, perhaps a small spring tooth harrow or a drag type spike tooth harrow is all you will need to make a decent seedbed. A tractor your size is going to have a tough time with deep tillage, perhaps hire someone with a chisel plow or mould board plow for the deep tillage this fall. Enjoy your day. Frank.
