Broken; Thanks for the response, yes things were working out good till we dicovered that the "Small Stuff", in the former shop at the farm was just more than we ever imagined it would be. We had built a loft in the shed here at the house, it is already to the ceiling with lumber, so we built another loft along the opposite wall, it's full. There is still Stuff (good stuff) at the farm, all the junk and marginal has bee sold or hauled away I've got room for the 4310 and the Gator but no room for any of my impliments or another 2000 ft. of lumber, the wife's mower and her complete collection of every John Deere adult lawn toy they ever built, they arer sitting outside. Really was an easy sell to conmvince the Mrs. that another shed was needed to store things, I've got the same firm UBC that built our house and the shed to build a second shed. We havent made a firm decision yet as to the size, probably in the 40X60 range, but I've never saw anyone have to saw off one end of a shed and take it back bcause the shed was too big, there just isn't such a thing. But to the meat of your response, yes we are adding to the value of property that kids could squabble over someday, but the wife and I kind of have an agreement that soon as the firs of us are gone the one left is going to sell the rest of the farm (50 acres) and the acerage where we are now and either rent an appartment or maybe buy a condo, just to help prevent things like happened to your father in law. All our kids get along pretty well now, but as was said the strongest of familys can be torn apart over the almighty dollar. Frank.

Since moving to my new shop it has become aparent that I just plain don't have enough room for everything. If I were to put up a simple no frills pole shed with common barn steel, no windows, sliding door on one end and a walkin door, no concrete, just a gravel floor, what would my aproximate cost be to have it built by a pole barn firm? I would need some dirt work done ahead of construction, but I can handle that muself. My thoughts are running in the 36X60, with 10ft. eave height size. Does longer and narrow cost about the same as wide and shorter due to longer trusses or needing more poles, etc. Thanks, Frank.

Harvey; No, I'm not into guns enough to really know the difference between a collector grade gun and a lower dollar one. I've already got enough "Investment" type tools, etc. in the shop that the kids likely will sell for ten cents on tne dollar soon as I bite the big one. As I said earlier I was always a bit jealous of the "rich kid" neighbor who had that neat litle lever action 22 when we were in high school. One of our cowboy heros on TV back in the 50's could shoot the gun out of the hand of the bad guy at 300 yards on a galloping horse with one of them. From a distance it looked a good deal like the Daisy BB gun I still have, maybe that is my "investment grade" gun. So which eveer you think is my best bang for the buck on the low dollar end is wht I'll buy. Keep the snow shovel handy. Oh, by the way the "rich Kid" is ten times richer now, but I'm no longer jealous of him, I got over that foolishness long time ago. Frank.

Sesails; I agree with Wille all the way only my first choice is a Landpride. I'm on my second one now, Model 1558, We had kind of drifted away from gardening so I sold the first one to a fellow a couple years ago. When we decided to give gardening a try again, I caled the guy back thinking he might have tired of gardening and I could buy the first Landpride back from him, no deal, he said he would'nt sell it at twice what he gave me for it. So I bought the new one this past December form the LP dealer. Looks this morning like I'll need to wait till the snow we are getting today melts to try out the new LP. Enjoy whatever you buy. SouOre; When your friend runs out of the old formula diesel, he will get the same fuel you get at the pump except for the red dye. I haven't heard of any starting problems with the new Low Sulfur fuel. The catch with the new LSD is that the sulfur provided lubrication for the injector pump and injectors that the fuel no longer provides, so it is important to add a Power Service, (my favorite), type addative year round to replace the lost lubricating qualitys the sulfur used to provide. Best to talk with your fuel supplier or the dealer who services your equipment, this is their bread and butter so they will do their best to keep you up to speed on things. Best of luck. Frank.

Yan; Glad to hear you are going to make the pitman yourself. The only advice I will offer is to keep it as close to the same size and profile as the original. It is tempting to make one that is larger in diamiter tnan the original to make it stronger. Don't do it, they usually had a slender center section for a reason, less weight to change directions many times a second just made it easier on bearings or whatever else held it in place. Kind of the same theory why hot rod engine builders always wanted the lightest possible connecting rods and pistons in their race engines. Sorry to have strayed from your question about pricing but several things will influence the price, for example what kind of shape are the sickle sections, the cutterbar guards, PTO drive componets in? Does it fit only an Allis model "C"? So without knowing any of those factors it is about impossible to give you a set in stone value. But asuming that the mower will be in a useable condition, and fit the buyers tractor I would guess that 2-400 dollars would'nt be out of line. Have a great evening. Frank.

jkcffs: I bought a Landpride 1558 forward rotating tiller this past winter that I haven't got to try out yet. I looked at a reverse rotation Landpride sitting beside it and almost bought it instead. My thought was that perhaps the reverse rotating tines would toss any surface trash over the top instead of catching and wraping in the tiller tines, not sure of that, but just my thought. Others here may have some first hand information that will help you more. I'n not sure how big a Ford 660 is but your 4100 Deere may be crying "Uncle" when it tries to pull or lift a tiller of that size. Look up Landpride.com it gives all the specs on the power needed and the weight of the tiller for your 3pt. hitch to lift. Your owners manual for the 4100 will tell you it's lift capacity, you'll definetly need some front end weights or a loader on the 4100 for ballance and safety. You can buy cheaper tillers than a Landpride, but I don't think there ijs a better tiller built than a Landpride. Best of luck. Frank.

Broken: When you measured for the size coulter you have clearance for did you take into account for any "slop" in the swivel joints that may allow the coulter to push up against the plow frame when you drop it in the ground? Frank.

Yoper; One of the first tests they did was for Gout. They draw some fluid out of the ankle join, put it on a microscope plate and check for microscopic crystals in the fluid. Crystals=Gout, no crystals=no gout. No crystals were found. Frank.

Andrew, I probably should let Art give the Kubota advice, but I think your problem is fuel starvation. Check the seddiment bowl under the fuel tank for dirt or water, clean it first then go to your kubota dealer for new fuel filters. Check your owners manual, it will tell you how to do the seddiment bowl and how to remove the old filters and install the new ones, and how to bleed the fuel system when you are done. I think that will put you back to mowing in a little bit. Best of luck. Frank.

Quincy; My first thought that came to mind was an Uncle of my wife's who lived in Northeren Mimmesota. He had a John Deere 730 diesel, it was about 30 below, he needed to grind cow feed. The Deere of course would'nt even begin to start. He put a bucket under the oil pan, took the plug out, then waited most of the day for the oil to run out into the bucket. next move, he took the bucket, (steel bucket) in to the kitchen, set it on the gas range to warm it up. He kind of overdone it a bit, the oil caught fire, they nearly lost the house before it got put out. Point of all this rambling is how did you boil the water out of 15 galons of Hy-Tran? You're lucky you did'nt burn yourself up. Hy-Tran that milky probably is contaminated with other stuff to the point of needing replaced anyhow. Best of Luck. Frank.

Even the 448 is going to be streched to the limit with 20 inch stumps. Yes there are stories about the Deere 47 thru 448 hoes breaking everything from center housings to rear axle housings. I have a 4310 and a 48 hoe for it, I've never had any problems even the rear wheel lug bolts that were a problem for some have never caused me any trouble. Deere does now have a frame strenghting kit for the 4XXX series tractors that use their backhoes. I've ordered one for mine just as a safety measure against a possible future problem. I spoke with the dealer tech. in charge of small tractor/Lawn and garden equipment service. he had never heard of a tractor or axle housing being broken because of a Deere backhow being on the tractor. Remember there are people who could get a bucket full of eggs over 10 miles of washboard roads without breaking one, and other people who could break an anvil just by looking at it. 99% of that kind of damage involves harsh operation or using a machine for a purpose for which it was never designed. Anyhow get the 448, and the frame kit just to be on the safe side. Frank.

Don't squirt Diesel fuel into the intake manifold. it must be atomized like your injectors do to get it into a condition that it wiil fire from the heat of compression. I haven't did this myself, but I've watched mechanics keep a diesl running just by spraying WD-40 into the intake manifold while cranking it. Don't be temped to use either for this, It might work, but if it don't you could end up with broken piston rings and other internal damage. Frank.

Sesails; Wow, twenty acres of what you describe is going to be quite a DIY project. I notice on your profile that you are wanting to get into beef cattle. If you can maybe level out some of the holes, humps, etc. to a level with a dozer, heavy loader or something, I'd use a light disc to work some pasture mix into the soil, run the beef cows on it a fewe years till nature breaks down the roots, sticks etc., then it will be lots easier to level things up with what ever equipment is needed. Roots still connected to the soil are a bear to deal with, given some time mother nature will help you out a bunch. perhaps someone else has a better solution. Best of luck. Frank.

Clintm-455; Have you changed the fluid and filters? If they are OK, then I would suspect the front pump. My experience has been tha when a charge pump quits, you get nothing, but when the charge pump is good and the front pump is bad your symptoms sound right on. Best of luck. Frank.
