Murf; Thanks for the info. First I was wrong, they have a one year warranty, not two year. I started out with Sears,Powerkraft(Monkey Ward) home owner grade machines and soon learned they just won't handle eight hours a day five days a week type service. An old friend who's furniture quality makes me look like I work with an axe led me to Powermatic/Jet, Delta, Milwauke, Bosch, etc. I've just never hnd an issue with reliability, performance, resale, etc. So why do I want to change? The price is attractive, but in the long run, what few service issues I've ever had were handled by the local dealer without any hassle. Guess I answered my own question, I'll order the Powermatic. I must not be looking in the right places as I haven't found any woodworking sited yet. Thanks again. Frank.

Did your blade hook onto perhaps an edge of some cement or something in the drive that was solid enough to make the tires spin on the tractor before the bypass valve kicked in? Do you have chains on the tractor? Did you drive it back to the shed with the blade lifted without a problem? Maybe your answers to these questions will lead us to your problem a bit quicker. Kthompson; We raised three boys and two girls, all five are basicly workoholics in the fields they have gotten into, and are doing quite well. I guess normal parents still worry about their kids, grandkids etc. We do, our friends do. Why? I don't know, just the way it is I guess. Of course we have the five best looking, smartest grandkids ever born too, sound fimilliar? Keep warm. Frank.

Ibrown59; I haven't did this myself, but have a cousin in southern Iowa who farms on a pretty big scale, so he generates lots of waste oil in a years worth of oil changes on tractors, trucks, etc. To solve a disposal problem and help heat his shop he installed a gun type oil burning forced air furnace. I don't know what ratio of heater oil to waste oil he uses. His only comment was that complete filtering of the waste oil is a must befor blending. If you have lots of waste oil or access to it for free this might be your thing. This cousin is a very tallented fellow in just about anything he wants to do, but I think most any experienced furnace person could get things going for you. Frank.

EW; I remember my Dad using oat straw for mulch after the garden plants got taller than a bale slab was thick. He of course had to hoe till the things got that big. He never tore the bale slabs apart, he just laid them side by side, end to end like you were laying bricks in a street. That was a long time ago but as I remember it worked quite well. An aunt of mine used to spread news papere a few layers deep then put just enough soil on them to keep them from blowing away, that did'nt seem to work very good, the paper got tore and the weeds came anyway. I had decided to stay away form this thread as I don't like controversy, I have no time for name calling or abusive languge by anyone anytime here on TP or anywhere else for that matter. So the simpilest solution to any abusive posters is simply don't respond to them, all they want is attention anyway, if no one responds they will just go away. Agric; Thanks for the info. Since No.3 son makes his living building and installing computers I've turned the task over to him. Today or tomorrow a wireless company is to show up at the house to check for a line of sight test for their service, if it passes then we're signed up if not they go home and forget about it. They offer a three year contract at 50.00 per month including taxes, etc. and no installaton fee for a three year contract. Since the No. 3 son is in the computer building business he said throw the Sunday paper in the trash, he can get them cheaper thru his suppliers, why did'nt he tell me that in the first place? LIke KW said R-1's might be a bit better but not enough to justify the cost. I think chains would be your best choice. Much better traction and lots less cost. Frank.

Just out of high school I got a job with a road gang. They must have been really hard up for help, about the second week on the job the boss put me on a D8 cable dozer, probably a late 40's model, I don't kmow when they got hydraulics but this old moose had the arm that came over your shoulder to run the winch to lift the blade. That thing was BIG and CLUMBSY, but it would push just about anything you put the blade against. At 18 I was on top of the world driving that old noisy dusty thing. I have no idea what they weigh, but I sure would'nt want it stuck in a swamp. Frank.

Chris; Just checked the tech manual for a 4410 MFWD front axle, which likely is pretty similar to what you have. It shows a replaceable boot. It also warns that the the threads are right hand on one end of the tie rod and left hand on the other, so better check that too. Best of luck. Frank.

Tet; The 48's that I'm famillar with locally I haven't heard of any weld failures. I don't know anyone locally who has a 47, so I can't help there. Woods has always had a reputation for good equipment, so I would'nt be afraid of that, but I just don't like puting a different brand impliment on a tractor unless it is 3 pt. mounted. I'm sure that Deere, Kubota, CNH, and all other spend some time matching the abilitys of a backhoe to the abilitys of the rractor. No mattere who builds something, it can be broken, mostly depends on the man working the levers. Best of luck. Frank.

Iowa; Do the sellers have any information as to how much and of what material was used as insulation under the concrete? I'm not an engeneer or heating expert, but I'll give you my farm boy logic. Heat is going to move in the direction of least resistance. If the insulation under the concrete has more resistance to heat movement than what is above the concrete then logic says the heat will come up. The concrete, the ceramic tile, the carpet pad, and the rugs are all forms of mass that can absorb heat and pass it on till it finally is transfered to the air and other objects above the mass. The heat all has to go some where in time, so my thought is that you will get all the heat the heating system produces in time, maybe just in a delayed manner till the heat works it's way up thru the total mass. I could be all wet on this but anyway just my thoughts. Best of luck on whatever you buy. Frank.

The carpenter crew will finsh up their part today, the electrican/plumbing heating contractor said he would be here later today to plan the elctric system, heating and air conditioning. Before we started actual construction I invited as couple friends over that have been in the furniture and or machine shop business for as long as I have to offer any onsite adviuce. One gave some good advice far as welder smoke control, the other on the entry doors that I had'nt thought of. So all in all I'm real happy so far. I won't be able to be around there much for a week or so but have a firm experienced in moving heavy shop equipment to do that for me when the time comes for that. I'll keep you posted as major events happen. Keep warm. Frank.

Iowa; I'm sure you have investigated the modular homes that they bring over here from Wisconsin, and also there is a big plant in Dyersville, Ia. Two couples who have had trailers similar to ours on the Turkey river in northeast Iowa decided to make that their permanent homes so both bought manufactured homes from a company in Wisconsin, both have invited us to see their new homes, they are just plain nice, and both toured the plant where they were built. One is a retired carpenter and he was impressed with the quality of the materials and workmanship. The comment of one of the couples was that they weren't on any budget,(I'm sure they just wrote a check for it)that they liked the "While we're at it syndrome" of building a stick built home goes away, once you sign the contract you know all the coats and other than maybe the utility hookup costs nothing changes. Neither of them have basments, but a young couple just north of us to which a known budget was important do have a basemant. I don't remember the exact time frame of their homes, but it seems like they bought in early fall and were in before Christmas. I'd give you the brand name of their homes but I don't remember, but they did come from Wisconsin. Just a passing thought. Frank.

KT; It seems like since radials came along that you don't see the severe cupping that used to show on the tread bars from road wear on bias tractor rears. I had a hard time running radial rears at the recommended pressure because they just plain looked flat to me. But after enough convincing by the tire folks I did let out a bunch of air to their recommended PSI. So in answer to your question I would have to say that the entire length of the tread bar has pretty much the same pressure against the road surface instead if being concentrated near the center of the tires. Likely the wear is still there but just not as noticeable. Just my thoughts. Frank.

The 2305 is about as small as compact's get and still have the front and rear PTO, a limited Cat, 1 three point hitch and the ability to handle a loader of enough size to make it more useable. There likely are other brands of CUT's out there that are maybe a bit smaller, I'm not sure. The Deere specs. show a weight of 1450 lbs. Some of the bigger lawn tractors probably come within a couple hundred pounds of the 2305, plus then you're limited to a really tiny loader that likely costs nearly as much as one for the 2305. A large lawn tractor likely would'nt cost enough less to be a real issue. If you get one with R-4 or turf tires you won't be able to see a track in the lawn unless it has rained a bunch. I often use my 4310 with R-4's on the lawn, it weighs twice as much as the 2305 and in normal cnditions you'd have a hard timee finding a track I demoed a 4100 when they first came out, they were pretty similar to the 2305 several years ago, and I don't think you would want a CUT with much less horsepower. Come trade in time or wanting to sell it someday I think a small CUT would sell easier than a large lawn tractor. Just my thoughts Frank.

I've never had R-1's on a CUT, but would have to agree that if most all your work involved agricultuire (plowing, disking, pulling trailers, etc.) on tilled soil conditions the R-1's would be first choice. The R-4's aren't a perfect solution to every situation but seem to be the best compromise far as having some traction in most all conditions plus not being damaging to turf, etc. The first couple years that Cut's were around all came with turf's, I'd venture to guess that today you would have to drive halfway across the state to find a new one with out R-4's. The local Deere dealer told me a couple years ago that he won't order a CUT with turf's or ag tread unless he has it sold before hand, the last one he ordered with turfs he had for two years before it sold. I did see one an owner of a sod farm ordered from them that had those real wide turfs, and I can understand his need for them the sod has become big business around here in the last few years. Anyhow, there is no "perfect" tread to fit all situtons, it just dependends on you most iontended use. Enjoy what you buy. Frank.

Billy; Our oldest son works for a major oil co, as kind of a salesman, P.R. man doing like the Farm Progress Show, State fairs, etc. putting on seminars for contractors, farm groups, etc. He stoped by a while back and was telling me the same thing about the low sulfur fuel lacks the lubrication ability of the old fuel. They have an additive package they use and I think it depends a bit on what type of climate zone you are in for the exact formula. I just use Power Service only now I use it year around. Frank.

I think their concern on loader rating was not for reasons of the strength of the supersteer axle but the fact that the front axle assembly moves from side to side under the frame of the tractor making it a concern of moving the front wheel closer to the frame while the loader bucket stll remains in line with the tractor making for a risk if overturning the tractor. I could be all wet on this, but that was the info I was given. Frank.
