I have a couple "H" Farmalls that we used to call our handy tractors, after using the 4310 the "H's" just take up shed room because the seem so clmbsy compare to the CUT. Mine is a 12/12 reverser with a 430 loader with the 4 in 1 bucket and a 48 hoe,along with three pt. tillers,MX5 rotary cutter, Land Pride 72 in rear mower, Land Pride box blade, landscape rake, home made three pt. sprayer, etc. I use the backhoe to dig out rocks the tennant hits with his chisel plow. dig out small saplings then turn around and grab them up with the 4 in 1 bucket to carry away. In the summer I use the MX5 cutter to mow the rough stuff in road ditched, then use the Land Pride rear finish mower to trim it up a bit better. I've used the box blade to move an amazing amount of dirt with, then used the land scape rake to level things out. Also the landscape rake is real neat to level new crushed rock in the drive with.The little 8 ft. homemade sprayer is use to spray the lawn or use a hand held nozzle in fencroes, etc. The tillere we're going to use for our own gardens and perhaps do a few around town. Several years ago I went into town with a tiller on the back of a 345 lawn tractor to do a garden for a friend. That was about 8 in the morning, people saw me tilling ,and asked if i would till their's. About 3 that afternoon I got done, never charged anybody, it was just a fun thing to do. TodayI ordered a 25KW PTO generator for it, but it will be a while getting here, the dealer said most all the generators sitting around here in Iowa got sent to Nebraska in the last few weeks. All in all it's a great hobby that you can do so many things that you nornaly would have to hire someone for. Return on Investmen might bee kind of hard to justify to a banker, but the satisfaction of doing things yourself and the thearapy time you gain while mowing tilling, etc. easily justify the investment. Harvey; Thanks for your response, I met with the electrician yesterday, he thought the generator was a good idea, one reason being that the house and the shop will be on the same service. When I would be starting the heavier things in the shop that take lots of amps to get them rolling while other things are running I likely would dim the lights in the house and possibly damage some things in the house due to low voltage. Too many machines that start automaticly could kick in when using near peak voltage supply like the air compressor, air conditioner compressor, etc. His thought was that runing one or two machines and having the automatic things kick in would'nt be any problem, but like welding with the smoke exhaust running then the AC kicking in could end up costing me more than a generator. This fellow has done our wiring for years so I really trust his advice. The friend I spoke of earlier who owns the motor shop also sell generators, so soon as time permist I'll pay him a visit. I did do some research on the net and found some nice units, but would just like to buy locally, he has taken care of my motor needs for a long time. Thanks for your input. Frank.

Ncrunch; The "Chew Not" sounds like something i could use. How often do you apply it and how long does it last. We're planning a couple of small gardens about 3600 squ. ft. total, what would it cost to do something of that size?

KT; The field cultivator is basicly identical to a soil finisher except it doesn't have the disc blades ahead of the shanks to cut up the old corn stalks, and your comment about having to disc ahead of the field cultivator is also correct. Todays modern hybrid corn variteys have a much more robust stalk plus we now plant in the 30- 35,000 seeds per acre compared to 20 yrs ago when 20-25000 population per acre was considered high, so there is just so much old fodder to deal with that a field cultivator just plugs with cornstalks. The rolling basket levers behind the soil finisher don't work very good here, they plug with last years corn butts and cease to roll, so the tine toothe harrow is about all that is used here. Dennis; I would be tickled to help out in any way I can, but the sad truth is I simply am not computer literate enough be of much help. I can build a cabinet or fix most anything mechanical, but I was born 25 years too soon to get much into the computer world. I will appluad and encouirage anyone who volunteere to help you out, I would really be sad to not see the messages on TP. Ftrank.

Just watched a tractor pull on RFD-TV last night. In the unlimited class one of the finalists had three Allisons, some of the others had four or five Aries racing engines, and another had three turbine engines. I wonder how many CUT's you could buy for what one of them cost?

KT; I've had a leaf blower for several years, there the best thing since canned beer to blow the dust and chaff off of a combine. You soon learn to stay upwind then turn the combine around to do the other side. Keep warm. Frank.

I happened to notice the other day when driving thru Waterloo, Ia. on 520 that where the houses have crowed up to the interstate they built heavy solid wooden fences probably 12-14 ft. high for several miles. I think evergreens can also be somewhat effectrive too but not to the degree of a solid wall. Some people we kinda know built a new home within about a hundred ft. of the woven wire fence along I 380. I've been there a couple times, not a moments peace and quiet day or night. I would'nt have built there if they gave me the lot. Frank.

Been real strange here in eastern Iowa too, a neighbor chisel plowed an 80 acre field of cornstalks across the road on Friday then yestersay I stoped by another neighbor who was doing some major landscaping around a farmsite, never saw the soil work any nicer. North and west of us a bit they have had a little snow but the most we have had was a light dusting on Christmas morning that melted by noon. The county has'nt spent a dime yet but they're allways broke anyhow. Frank.

From what I could gather on the Deere website a 2210 has 5.5 GPM and a short 2000 lb. PSI. preassue may be closr to adequate, but 5.5 GPM is going to be mighty slow. Frank.

Killiancorp; I'm not real fimilliar with the hydraulics of the 2210, so I won't comment much on that part. First off does your log splitter have it's own hydraulic valves or does it use the valves on the tractor? Do you know the Gallons per minute and PSI requiements of the splitter. Some of the smaller compacts don't have the flow in GPM nor the pressure (PSI) required for a splitter. There are PTO pump units for some splittere that eliminate the need of the tractors hydraulic system. I think your safest route would be to take the info about your splitter to a Deere dealer and find out what you need, a power beyond may be required for your tractor, etc. Othere here likely have some better info for you also, we'll do the best we can to help you out. As this all turned out I was in the local coffee shop a couple mornings after I first posted, so I brought up the subject of knife sharpeners. Turns out a local fellow whom I know fairly well is an advid hunter, fisherman, trapper, trap shooter, etc.. Turns out his hobby is sharpening knives with some sort of hand held stones, he said bring them up, give me an hour. Result was, razor sharp, almost insulted the man trying to pay him. Neat guy. I just looked it up, I paid 200.00 for the used deck plus a set of blades, and I think it was a 325 tractor I put it on. Can't remember the model no. of the deck but he gave me the right brackets and it worked fine. I sold that one when I bought the second 345, the Mrs. likes the power steering on the 345's. I use a 72inch rear mouint Landpride on the 4310 for the ditch and waterway mowing, it does a nice job and handles the rough stuff better than a midmount. I fully agree it is a peach to hook up and unhook compared to a midmouint. Frank.

I'm not familiar with the model numbers and prices of Belarus tractors so I won't comment on that part. The only cautoin flag I would check is the knowing where a Dealer is and parts availbity. We used to have a dealer about 30 miles from us but he droped the Belarus line, and I don't know of another one in eastern Iowa. If you arent tractor familliar, I'd have a person with some experience in tractor repair check it over. Best of luck. Frank.

Blueman; Sounds like your Dad's needs are similar to mine for farm utility chores. The first machine I had was a regular 4X2 Deere Gator, we used it for picking up rocks, hauling seed to the field, and for kind of a mini service unit taking tools, etc. to the field. We never had any real major problems with it except the box hoist just wasn't meant to lift and dump a load of rocks, we ruined it first off. Being a two wheel drive it was totally helpless in any kind of mud. I traded it in for an HPX 4X4 a couple years ago the four wheel drive gets you about anywhere, and the low range gives it a lot of puling power. The box hoist is a much improved double cylinder unit that will dump a box full of rocks with no strain at all. All of my rambling is'nt meant to be an advertisment for Deere, but I think it pretty much pertains to most any brand, two wheel drives are pretty helpless, check the ability of the box hoist, ground clearance, etc., your Dad will use it for things he never dreamed of yet. I know they are slow compared to quads, but insurance companys don't squirm quite as much with a Gator type unit. Theyre also a great way to teach the Grandkids how to drive out in the pasture with nothing to crash into. Happy New Years. Frank.

I don't know anything about heating system antifreeze. I'm just wondering is the old stuff toxic? If so does the plumber haul it away and properly dispose of it as part of the 1200.00 service? Frank.

Rragent; When you remeved the valve to have it repaired did you disconnect the quick couplers that the loader plugs into before you took anything apart? If so then you haven't lost any fluid in the lines from the couplers to the cylinders, so no need to bleed anything there, and the lines from the female couplers to the valve would hold very little fluid so not much air would be involved in the first place. In a worst case bleed it like EW said, but I really doubt you lost enough to make bleeding necesary, just start it up and cycle the bucket a few times if the air don't work it's way out you can still bleed it later.
