I would not worry about going over the hours a bit if you need to use the machine. Ten one way or the other is not going to make much difference.

I did not realize that we had so many gun experts on the tractor board. I have a Colt Bisley in original like new condition. Any idea what that is worth? I have not taken it for an appraisal, it has been in the family for years. I have it locked away in a vault until I can get an appraisal and some insurance on it.

I prefer to carry my Colt 38 "Agent". It isn't much larger than the 25 auto I used to carry, has more stopping power and is extremely safe with it's hammer block. I use hollow points as well. Also have a few "retired" law enforcement sidearms.

I'm no dealer but there are several of assorted brands around here. I have seen the smaller ones crated up in need of tires and accessories and the larger ones shipped in various stages of readiness, but never a drive train separated from them.

When I hired a dozer to clear the back land of my previous home that was comprised of about an acre of mosquito breeding growth that bordered a beautiful creek, I finished the grading myself with the old A/C. There was a steep hill directly behind the house, I had a york rake on the tractor. I found it much more comfortable to back up the steep incline. My reasoning was two-fold; 1. I did not want to experience the front end lifting as they tend to do at a certain point 2. If I had to reverse direction due to loss of traction, stall-out or any other mishap it is much easier/safer to control a machine moving forward than back-wards, especially going down a steep incline. My two cents.

Tom,

That would be non-detergent oil. My thought is that you would end up with 15w however the chemistry might not permit that. You may end up with part of the oil remaining a different viscosity than the rest, who knows. Peters is the resident expert on this subject.

Thanks Art, I stopped by the local truck repair shop and he had them laying around on the tire machines. Cost me $1.00 so I tipped the guy I was so happy!

If you are a distance from the dealer, check to see if he is going to charge you for hauling it for warranty repairs with that extended warranty. Sometimes it is cheaper to repair it yourself than pay for the haul job, unless you do some major damage to something.

We do tend to barter considerably out here. I do however make sure I pay for work done when I ask for help and can not repay the labor with my time, even if it is a relative. In fact since the ice storm I have had my brother-in-law helping pull brush, rake and catch up on chores and he is paid by the hour.

I believe I mentioned a sub-standard battery supplier in the last discussion thread about this a few weeks ago. Too many complaints about that one brand tractor to be anything else unless a charging problem shows up someplace. My Kubota has not had that problem, neither did my J/D nor does my forty+ year old Allis. Even batteries in the boats I have owned never showed an acid leak syndrome, and I can tell you on Lake Ontario they can take a pounding.

I re-read your post several times. It sounds like you are referring to the upper (cylinder) mounting dogs on the top of the bucket, they are welded in place correct? If that is so, the only effect that would have is to place the bucket off center a bit. But I would check to see that the loader arm mounts are equally off center. If they are not, undue stress could be placed on the structure. You might want to compare to another bucket at the dealer, that is what I did do demonstrate my problem with the loader frame. I am a nut for things being centered and square, grew up with tool makers and was one myself for a time so a tolerance of more than a few thousandths of an inch on anything irritates me. Not a good hangup to have considering the quality of some of the junk sold these days.

I copied a paragraph from my post that lives in another active thread on the board, but fits this one too;

As far as that J/D oil is concerned Mark, I am not so sure an engine failure due to oil defect in a well maintained machine is much of an issue. If I were going to buy into a plan, I think the one Quaker State offers for free as long as you use their oil is less restrictive and certainly would cost less (because their oils cost less). It does not require that the oil be defective to pay out either.

Apparently they don't use a serpentine belt like the B series Mark? That is a thought, he should check the owners manual for the deck belt configuration.

TC29 had the same problem, ate the paint off the steel under/around the battery on my SS model. Is it due to a poor quality OEM battery or some other malfunction, don't know but I do like the battery box idea. If the problem turns out to be leakage due to a defect, I would put the new one you receive with your warranty repair in a box expecting the same thing to happen judging by the number of observations of this problem in N/H tractors.

I like the idea of a forum where ideas are shared, not preached. We have a safety program practiced in my company that is driven by the employees, they lead the meetings and come up with safe work habits. One of the mainstays of the program is what is called a "near miss" forum that takes place at each weekly gathering. Those that care to, can explain to the others in their group an event that occurred that could have been a serious accident but was prevented by a particular action.

This particular type of format could lead to some great brainstorming as well as possibly prevent a member from becoming injured.
