People still do the stripe thing with roller and mower, designer lawn mowing they call it I guess. I use mine for flattening out the soil after the winter frost as well as for compacting the stone in my driveway. Works pretty well for smoothing out the ruts in my barn road which is still a grass path, if I catch it before it dries. Some around here make them out of cement with a pipe core, and then insert an axle through the core.

Welfare is too good in this state, nobody wants to do grunt work when they can stay home for the same money. I have a hard enough time finding someone that is willing to do spring raking/cleanup, let alone pick rocks.

I have not had a problem with my 2910 acting in this fashion. I have pulled a trailer loaded with wood, had a full bucket of wood on the front and climbed a fairly steep incline using low range FWD. It seems if this were a characteristic of the tractor it would happen whenever the drive train is stressed as when using the loader or piling material.

I had a 1969 Blazer that had been used for plowing commercially. When pushing heavy snow it would pop out of low range (transfer case). This I attributed this to excessive wear, sold the truck as is to someone that wanted to mess with it. How many hours on the B24 and what kind of use has it had.

Just returned from the fireman's banquet. A few cocktails and a good dinner with old friends, it does not get much better.

I have been straightening out the messes here for almost eleven years. If I move again, it will be into a dwelling built to my specs or a condo in Vegas. I'm with you Eric, too much heartache and $$ to do this again. I will reach the point I imagine whereby I will not be able to take care of this property, but my youngest is interested in it so we shall see.

Thick fog coming off the lake tonight, supposed to clear Sunday. Have to roll the lawn and do some trim mowing so I hope the man is correct in his prediction of sun. Only two more trees to take down in the yard from the ice damage, glad I bought that Stihl 260 last winter, has not missed a beat.

By the way, my message notification is not working, is yours?

Great feature Dennis, I love it! Now that I have all of the lumber cleared from my lawn that the ice storm deposited, I will have some time this weekend to look at the member's pictures (between rolling the grass and burning brush).

A friend of mine jacked his up in the middle to let it flex, thus spreading the front and rear channel apart enough to insert the new timbers. Don't know if yours is the same setup but it worked for this particular brand.

I don't know if it is available for these small tractors, but a clam bucket can be invaluable. Years ago, my company experimented with just two in a fleet of many CK's. At the time you had to operate two levers in unison to make it work properly but I got to the point where I could clean spoil from a lawn and all you had left to do was sweep a bit. The time and back you save can be measured in $$ for a small businessman. The newer models are much more user friendly and every machine in our fleet has one on it!

Dennis,

Since this board seems to have a great deal to do with helping those lost or searching for an answer it could be said to be somewhat of a compass for tractor/technical assistance. How about a four point compass with a different color tractor for each direction as the Tractor-Point symbol.

The old cooler idea sounds like it would be safe and efficient. I have electric dehumidifiers in my gun safes, they are about 3/4" in diameter and a foot long. They are extremely low wattage and generate enough heat to move the air inside the safe. They are warm to the touch, last indefinitely, and are not likely to break or cause a fire as a bulb can. One of these units inside the cooler battery box would be a simple solution, and they come with a bracket that can be mounted almost anywhere.

Welcome back, Murf. I did not realize this had happened to you until tonight upon a rare visit back here. Been very busy and have had little opportunity to chat around. Received a call at work Monday, my dad had stopped breathing at his home and the ambulance was transporting him to the hospital some 12 miles away. By the time I arrived from my city office, he was gone. It was his birthday, 76 years old. He had just eaten some of his cake and sat down in his chair, died just like that. Last time I had talked to him was about three weeks ago when I was there to unplug his sink drain. I had missed him Sunday when I dropped off his card and a birthday present. Times like these are when we realize our own mortality, and perhaps regret not telling people how much we care about them. Welcome back Murf, I am glad you are OK.

I purchased my "Blizzard" 8' plow early last summer. I was able to buy it for just a bit more $$ than what you are talking due to the fact the dealer had three in stock and the snow was long gone (what we had of it last year). This is an extremely heavy duty plow with most of the same features I saw on the snow-way website. I like the fact both brands have eliminated the chain to carry the plow, I have had them snap upon hitting a pothole and sail the chain over the top of the vehicle into the road behind me. The Blizzard does not have down pressure as an option that I am aware of but the blade is HEAVY DUTY, back-blading is easy. I know several people around here that have them including the restaurant at the end of the road. He plows a dirt parking lot with it and runs a 1/2 ton short box pickup. I like the enclosed motor and relays that sit on the plow frame, I have owned several other brands and sooner or later water enters those grill mounted units and causes problems (you usually find it after the first good freeze/snow because everything is frozen and nothing works (and I did change the oil in them every year).

Yes it is the 14' high as planned. I wish I had made the two smaller doors 10x10 rather than 9x9, the boat I bought is much larger than I had planned on, it blocks too much of the big door. Makes it a pain to back in with those 8.5' wide items.

I used the roll-over example to stress how easily and quickly something can go wrong and how even extremely heavy tie downs can be broken. In other words, don't use too light a material. We always tie to the front tractor frame and to the backhoe frame when hauling a tractor. I use the lifting/towing rings on the track vehicles and we use chain tighteners on everything, not ratcheting mechanisms that could damage castings through over tightening. If traveling a long distance, it is a good idea to re-tension regularly. A rubber mallet is excellent for removing slack while tensioning chains.

Don't know what you mean by rough starting, but they will appear as a gas engine out of tune in cold weather and billow black exhaust. That normally clears up abruptly, mine did. Most construction equipment I am familiar with display the same traits. There is much talk in the archives regarding the hydraulic noise in those machines. I changed to a different N/H oil when I performed the 50 hour maintenance and that eliminated the screeching in cold weather.

I have had some involvement with dealerships. I saw Chrysler replace transmissions on cars and vans well beyond the warranty period, as high as 100,000 miles. Those are the 4 speed automatics that had troubles, they even dropped the $100 deductible on those within the warranty period. Dodge replaced the engine in my brother-in-law's Ram due to an oil pump failure at 58,000 miles, well out of warranty. He did have to pay labor but I believe if he had put up more of a fuss, that would have been covered too. Another brother-in-law of mine works for a Chrysler dealer, he told me Dodge is replacing those bad axles well beyond the warranty period, something Dana should be eating (in my opinion).

As far as the lemon law goes, I used to attend the auctions for those vehicles. GM is giving you money to shut you up for two reasons, 1}it may be less costly for them 2}once a vehicle goes through the process, the title is branded as defective. How many of those do you suppose a manufacturer wants out there for either publicity or liability reasons?

From my experience, Ford is one of the worst for taking care of a known problem/defect, it almost takes a court order (ask my son, he has been there). But no matter what brand you buy, it is ALWAYS a headache and a bad experience to go through the lemon law process. I have to admit, the N/H tractor I owned probably would have qualified but there is no law out there for tractors!

I finally used my 2002 3/4 Ton Ram for plowing some heavy snow last week. Up until that time what we were getting was light for the most part and only amounted to perhaps 8-10 inches a day. I would hop on the Kubota after work to relieve the stress and plow the 200' driveway to the house, the parking area and then 400' to the barn and associated parking area. I worked late Thursday and Friday during some heavy snow that was just too much for the machine/time continuum available to me. That truck with the 8' BLIZZARD plow worked great! I was a bit concerned due to the fact that the plow was an afterthought so I had not purchased an anti-spin rear axle, but bought off the lot due to the high rebates and deal offered me at the time. Doesn't seem to make much difference without that feature, my previous two plow units both had it and I really could not notice a difference in the plowing performance.

I use the R-4's on this machine without chains now. It works great and for some reason the Kubota has better traction with them than did the N/H. Different brand tire and more PSI due to a bit narrower footprint probably. I used the Curtis Blade only a few times and was not happy with it, put it up for sale and use the rear blade, loader combo and when the going is nasty I have an 8.5 foot blade for my new truck.

There are plenty of those types of tractor/loader combos around here on various old model tractors. The design is quite impressive and I especially like the International tow behind utility trailer in the background :>.
