I have just installed a shallow (20' deep) well for irrigation only. Our domestic water is from a deep drilled well. For the shallow well I want to pump into a 1000 gallon tank for a gravity feed irrigation system. I also want to pump directly to a sprinkler system in another area. I will be running the pump from a generator. My questions are:<br>
1. Should I get a submersible pump or an above surface pump? The guy who installed the well advised on a submersible pump to avoid priming problems. An above surface pump would simplify the piping into the well and would keep all electrical connections out of the water. What advice do you guys have on the type of pump?<br>
2. The horizontal run will be about 200' and the vertical rise about 10'. Can I run directly from the pump to the sprinkling system i.e. no pressure tank. If so, how much horsepower in the pump will I need to maintain about 40psi? Will it make any difference if I use a submersible pump or an above surface pump.<br>

The next implement purchase is a rototiller. My dealer sells Land Pride, Maschio and Sitrex. My questions are about forward rotation vs. counter rotation and shear pin vs. slip clutch models. My dealer favours favours forward rotation because of cost and less soil compaction and says they outsell counter rotation models by 20:1. He also favours shear pin models and says the slip clutch types require much more maintenance i.e. slip mechanism must be re-torqued every time you hit something that causes slippage and if left outside in the rain for an extended period of time; while shear pins can be quickly replaced in the field. He sells all types so it is not a matter of trying to get rid of in-stock inventory. What do you guys think. TIA. Wally Stein

I have the same tractor and came to the same conclusion about the 3pt hitch storage. Everything fits nicely in a 26" tool box.

I am looking at the Woods Landscape Rake LR106-2 with a flip down grader blade and wheel set. The grader blade attachment looks like a good idea for driveway/road maintenance and snow removal. Has anyone used these combination implements? What are the pros and cons? Thanks guys.<br>

Murf! You're a genius (but you knew that). Your suggestion worked like a charm. Even better, the new bucket attached smoothly. When I examine the bucket I removed, it looks as if it got misaligned slightly, either when it was attached or by hitting something along the way. Anyway, thank you.

Thanks for the quick replies. I should have been clearer. I was referring to a Third Function Valve for the front end. I will have the extra valve on the rear because I am getting the hydraulic thumb for the backhoe. Wally Stein

I have just bought my first tractor - a Kubota B26 to go with 6 acres of partly unfenced land. One of my first projects will be to build a fence approximately 1200' long. I am thinking of a 4' high fence with 6' metal posts - the "I" beam type. I am wondering if I will need to drill post holes (and buy an auger) or if it is realistic to think I can set the posts by forcing them down with the backhoe. I have seen this done with bigger post and bigger machines but wonder if the B26 will do the job. The soil is mostly former river bottom and not full of rocks. Thanks for your comments. Wally Stein
