This is a very subjective question. Some really like to buy super big equipment, one guy may think if he is able to turn the machine around on a tiny 100 foot lot it is just right the right size. What are you going to use the tractor for would help some in giving you advice. Property size and use for starters.

I have done a Kerosene flush on a auto engine to try to quiet the lifters, but never on an axle. In my case I cranked the engine without spark, drained it, then filled with engine oil, cranked it with no spark again, drained it again and refilled with engine oil.
