Iowafun -- I have 15 acres in Northern Vermont and bought a 4310 in Feb. The front-mount 59" blower is very impressive -- pricey, but worth it if you get a lot of snow.

I have R4's, and so far have had no problems with traction (need to get through an entire winter to be sure, though). They don't tear up the lawn -- the only rutting I've had is from the sheer weight of the tractor on wet grass.

I have an MX5 brush hog, which I've used to mow my 5 acres of fields twice now. It does a very nice job. I have an old 216 that I mow the lawn with.

The 430 loader is very strong -- I've been using it to carry and stack logs for next year's firewood. I think my next purchase will be a set of forks for the loader.

My wife has driven the tractor, and agrees it is a cinch to operate (I have eHydro). She hasn't worked it yet, but I'm sure I'll at least have her snowblowing this winter.

Overall, it is a great machine. I would recommend it to anyone!

As for options, I recommend getting the third SCV (which you'll need to run a belly mower with the loader on anyway) and the power beyond kit -- they are much cheaper to get with the new tractor than to add on later. I also have front and rear work lights and the rental upgrade kit -- all worthwhile investments. Also, loading the rear tires is a good idea for snowblowing and loader work.

I assume you don't use the iMatch frame as the 'boom' because it is too close to the rear of the tractor?

When I bought my tractor, the dealer told me to pick out a hat -- and gave me a good discount on one of the 1/16 scale 4310's, too... I thought that was pretty cool. But two nights ago I got my 'Owner's Edition' hat in the mail -- with the business card personalized for me and my dealer, and the Thank You card with the picture of all the JD workers on it. Like everyone else on this thread, I know it's just a hat -- but I was thrilled and completely impressed! For a big company like JD to take the time to do that is very impressive.

I also got my free chair the same day -- again, a very cool product.

Also, I set up the auto-pay option for my loan. Something was funky with my web server, so I had to call in. I got a very personable and knowledgeable associate on the phone who took care of everything for me. Then sent me a confirmation e-mail from her account, and gave me her direct phone extension. Again, for a big company to give that level of personal attention is rare.

But you know -- I guess all this 'marketing' is working -- 'cause I sent in an order for 1/16 scale 4310's for my dad and brother, a sweatshirt for my mom, two Johnny Teach 'n' Play pillows for my niece and nephew, a shop clock for me, etc.!!

The 4310 also has better ground clearance than the 4210 (mostly due to larger wheels and tires). That's very handy for working in the woods...

I went in looking at a 4210, but one of my main needs was the 59" front-mount snowblower. The dealer told me the 4210 would drive it, but would bog down. The 4310 handles it with ease.

The 430 loader was another push for me to go to the 4310. The 430 is not only a 'stronger' loader, it has more versatility in buckets and other attachments.

Finally, the larger hydraulic flow on the 4310 is a big plus -- especially if you want to drive things like log splitters off of the power beyond.

kwschumm -- I just read your post on the wood splitter thread -- thank you! I apologize for posting the same question in two places -- there was a lot of activity on the other thread, and I thought my question had gotten lost...

Now here's the dilemma -- the two most likely candidates I have found would have to be ordered. No one around here has them in stock. Any thoughts on how I could get the dimensions you mentioned in your post?

My search for a splitter continues. I've found a couple of nice options -- American has a splitter that you can add a PTO-powered pump to at a later date if you find the tractor hydraulics won't drive the splitter fast enough. Nice option. But so far, I haven't been able to find one that is iMatch compatible.

Does anyone have experience in making something iMatch compatible? What is involved?

Actually, my dealer said they were a hemorrhoid to put on (but agreed they were well worth the cost and trouble) -- but I can't see why... They look like they just bolt on to me, too... Maybe there is a bunch of stuff in the way. I'll be anxious to hear your report.

Chief -- I found that one on eBay, too. But I checked into it -- it is apparently just made from the cotton fabric you can buy in a store -- to make pillows and such out of. So not really a 'bathing suit'. But, it might be serviceable for at least a few pictures on the hood of the tractor! :)

kwschumm -- Which blade did you get for you 4310? I'm thinking of adding one to the package I've been working on (I'm the guy with the 'Seriously Considering a 4310' post), but was confused on the difference between a JD 45 6' blade and a Frontier Medium Duty blade.... Also, would it make more sense to get the optional 72" blade for the 430 loader and use it to grade the driveway?

yodaddyo -- If you don't mind me asking -- was this a MFWD tractor? Was it eHydro? I'm wondering because I'm getting very close to buying a MFWD 4310 w/ eHydro, 430 Loader, and R4's. Options are Power Beyond, Dual + Third SCV's, engine heater, iMatch, loaded tires, and chains. Attachments are 59" snowblower and MX5 cutter. The package price I've gotten so far from my dealer is $26,300 (before JD incentives)... That looks to be about 15% off list, but your $25,500 price with backhoe seems a better deal... How much haggling did you have to do with the dealer?

I am looking at a 1996 Cub Cadet 7274. It has 353 hours on it, comes with a C.C. loader (5' bucket), heated cab, 5' snowblower, 5' box scraper, 2-bottom plow, disc harrows, and tire chains. It has industrial tires on it. It is being sold by the original owner -- not a dealer. He is asking $15,500.

I am looking for my first compact tractor. I have 15 acres in Vermont (about 5 of which is fields), and a 750' driveway that I'd like to take care of myself. I've been researching and looking for a while, and was pretty much set on a JD 770 or 790. One of the features I like about the JD's is the mid-PTO with a shaft-driven, front-mounted snowblower.

This Cub Cadet seems to be worth looking at, so I'm going to check it out tomorrow. Can anyone help me with comparisons to the JD's? How about the price -- does it seem fair? Are the Cub's easy to service? How about availability of parts? There are two Cub dealers w/in 20 miles of my house... Any help would be appreciated. Thanx!
