2nd time asking: Are fluids checked with the engin running,in gear, or what?<br>

I've to to install a new Tachometer cable on my MF 1220 4wd HST Tractor. Anyone done that before?

I know where to check the front axel.<br>
I know where to check the rear PTO , but for the life of me, I can't find the spot on the side of the transmission case to check fulid level that fills from under the steering column near the floor of the cab.<br>
Also are these checks done with the engine running and in gear or what?<br>
