With 5 acres that need work you are in plenty of need for a good machine. I have 4 + acres that I have big plans for. 1 of the acres is over grown badly, 2 plus are lawn / garden and the remaining are forest or wetland. I have moved in some 350 yards of fill so far to build berms and re landscape the road front on the busy road side. Could not have done it with out a loader. Also the dry lay stone walls are much easier to build with the tractor/loader to fetch and place the 200 -400 pound rocks. I do it mostly alone, and could not do it without help other wise. As for plowing/ tilling, I could tell you that I am centuries ahead of the hoe or fork now. I am starting to prepare the new barn site and hopefully build a nice structure this year. I could not even think how far I am ahead of where I would be without the machine.

Hi All. MLS good job reporting the inside contact at JD. I still feel that this
forum is the place for JD to respond directly. It is a shame that a single post needs to be brought into a board room. That is the lamest thing, and just shows how far the executives are from there products and customers. As I said before, this is a major failing. Not only of there quality system, but also of there failure analysis system, and customer satisfaction levels on a new product line.

I would hope the board can link up while right in there meeting room and review most if not all of the trouble reports off this thread. After all, the quality system they claim to have in place calls for review and disposition of every last one. They can ignor it not for ever. If I were on that board, I would insist on reporting directly with the customers without the dealers as a middle man. How many dealers are qualified in trouble shooting design problems with stering geometries and the like. I would be very concerned with miss communications from this added layer of insulation in the reporting of problems.

Happy Holidays and all. Bill, please share the parts list and suppliers of the filtering system you speak of. Sounds like it kicks ass! Bo, thanks for the papers. It points to the need for better filters for sure. It sounds like bill's filter would work great on dino crap also. The water thing is a big problem for most all of us in the moist parts of the country.

Has anyone had experience with rotary filters. The ones that are a cylinder with a hole on the end and spin, pushing all particles out to the walls and traping them there. They are refered to as the ultimate filter. I guess Fram and the others will not allow them to get hold.

Bo dont be drinking the stuff. Eve tho it may make the trip to the can a bit smoother. Also corn oil has been linked to brain cancer. Thats why I use olive oil. :-) I wonder how extra virgin would work in a crank case.

Did any one find a place to post the papers yet. My hoster would give me the boot for sure.

I priced both and the Ku was more than 3K more than the best price I found on the Ki. I think they look almost the same (both well made). The grand L is a bit different. I would not consider the KI a grey market machine anymore with the market share that they are grabbing and the support that they have established and is available for them. Time will tell.

I got a great 57" tiller from central tractor for under $1000. They were out of the normaly stocked one and had Howse units in to fill in. It works great. I have been tilling everything. My wife blew the wistle on me so I think I must let the dust settle before I grow the gardens any more.

I would not spend one cent more on a JD or other brand for my needs.

I was told but I have not verified that it is a good practice. That in below zero (F) conditions 5% gas mixture is best. I have been told this by quite a few permafrost workers and do not have a clue as to what the trade offs are or if it is safe for compacts.<br>mario

Hi Bob<br>I have a rake with wheels that I use for just what you are talking about. The wheels help give you great level finish. If you are in need of moving a lot! of material then maybe the blade would be best. I am told that a box blade is best for fixing pot holes but I find the rake does a great job with the loose stone.<br>Mario

I have not used the new backhoe but have seen it up close and it appears very well made. The sub frame, cylinders, links, and controls all look as good as any in the class. I would love to have one for a few months.

Hi Jerry<br>The tractor price new varies some $900 depending on the tires. The small Ag tires being the lowest priced. The tractor alone new is about 9K at a good price. And it will accept a loader. If you are like me and run things forever I would pick out a new machine and pay the extra $.. Yes Steve Let's get real. I invest in companies that stand for quality and drop ones who pull bone head moves like putting out untested product. Long term profits are much more important than short term profit from a bull campain.<br>I be in the minority but I stand by that. Over twenty years in the quality field will show you time and time again that there is no sustitute for demonstrated quality and reliability. If JD's new management is willing to <br>to crap all over an excelent reputation, I would drop there stock as well as there products like a bad habit.<br>mario<br>

Thanks for the help Paul. I am pretty shure I will get a rake for my new Kiot 3054 when it gets here. I was thinking of a 7' rake but maybe a 6' would be better for my plans of moving lots of stuff. And I think the wheels are a good Idea also. We have a local central tractor that has them in stock at a good price. <br>Mario<br>

Hi Paul<br>Cast Iron and Steel both have the same modulas of elasticity (E). Being that they are both iron based metals they both strain in the order of 30 million pounds /

Some of the stuff that can really screw up the mix is copper. Even very small amounts will make any iron based alloy turn to unstable brittle crap. Some of our old cars (crushed whole) have more than an acceptable amount in them (wires starters, etc) and when melted whole will turn out bad metal. Tractors craking are likely made with some of this contaminated alloy.
Most US car makers make there blocks out of cast iron which is as pure as most low alloy soft steels and are very hard to break.
Do you think we get get the facts from our tractors Manufacturers as to what the mix is.

Take them and run...<br>You can get spindle plates, which are a large washer with the holes pre drilled at most out door equipment dealers. Most will be able to match up the spindle also.<br>You can always sell the tiller for more than you are paying for both, if your ground is too tuff or your tractor just cannot spin it effectively. I have been looking for one, and they are not cheap or many around. <br>Good luck<br>mario

If I had 40 acres to work , my first choice would be the zetor 3340 with the cab AC and a loader. I have had my eye on them for awhile but can not justify one for my spread. It is rock solid and lasts a long time. Everyone I spoke with love there machine. You can find them without cabs with little use. Agdealer in canada had a few listed in like new condition and at a very good price. Shipping to the US was not bad.<br>Best of luck farming your 40.<br>mario
