Sorry, should have added:
If the input drive into the gearbox is turning, look at your gearbox lever into the gear box which gives you forward, neautral, reverse. Is this connected onto the gearbox properly and turning the shaft into the gearbox? Be carful about moving this if you have the engine running and are leaning over the engine!

Yes, the counter balance should swing freely below the engine so you will have to take the engine out so you can tilt it so that the hole is directly underneath the engine, in the vehicle I guess you would say it's at seven o'clock as needing it to be at six o'clock, make sense?

Removed part reinstalled and now gator cx won t start

lol, i have a similar thing with one of mine but i think the hour meter still works. Have a google for a wiring diagram i found one and i suspct i have a problem with either a swicth on the transmission or a swicth on the handbrake which stops you starting unless in neautral and handbark on. To be honest i hadn't noticied if the hour meter was working or not. See if you can find a iring diagram and then look at what i am talking about and if it makes sense or not.

Are you talking about the big lump that is on the end of the crank and which the belt goes around? if so, strip it down. Its pretty easy WHEN you have got it off the engine. There is a 13mm headed bolt you need to remove, thats easy BUT then you need a long shaft and i think its a 12mm threaded bolt which pushes agaisnt the crank to pop off the clutch unit. Its a pig! Personally, i would take the engine out and do it on the bench. Removing the engine is half an hour, just remove exhaust, attachcments to starter and carb then remove stabaliser bar to rear diff and four securing bolts underneath. Once on the bench you can easily remove the long 13mm headed bolt and see with a torch the larger threaded bit that you need to tackle. Actually, thinking about it, if you take the engine out, you could leave the clucth on the crank and just remove the end of it to see what it wrong, its four small headed bolts.

Hi from accross the pond, I have picked up a Gator TS with the single cylinder kawasaki engine that i rekon has a broken con rod. I am trying to split the engine but cannot get the variable drive off the crank. Can someone tell me what tool i need for this or is there a way to do it without the special tool, Can i make one?
