I would stick with JD recommended oil. The 955 has wet disk brakes, hydraulic pto clutch, as well as the hst - all of which need a high quality oil with additives designed for these features.

Most likely leakage is occuring in the valve. Typically, the valves are made with no seals on the spools in the area of the inlet and outlet ports. There are seals on the ends of the spool to prevent external leakage. There needs to be some clearance between the spool and valve body so you can move the spool without a lot of effort. Nobody wants a joystick that works hard. So a small amount of oil will leak thru the clearance and result in loader drop. Depending on tolerences, some valves will leak a bit more than others. Typically, 10cc of oil leakage per minute at some nominal pressure is allowed. Trouble is, with the small volume cylinders on these little loaders, a little oil leakage results in significant rod movement!
Moral of the story is, never leave an unattended loader in the raised position.

I believe the middle position is regenerative circuit lockout on the bucket spool (in case you want to use this spool for some attachment that does not need regen) and bottom position is complete lockout of the scv functions. For loader work you would use the top position.

Thanks for the advice. One key does seem to be levelness. But the only place on by 6.5 acres here in the TN hills is the driveway and I want to avoid storing the bushhog there. Perhaps I can work out a series of blocks adjusted for height to create a level platform but then the tractor would still be not level. The drift pin idea is very interesting. It just may work. Will give extra leverage in the right direction. Thanks again.

Have you changed oil and filter? Condensate in the oil sometimes plugs the filter media and could cause slow oil flow.

Loader breakout is measured at the cutting edge with the bucket near ground level. Lift capacity is what the loader will lift to full height. ASAE specifies how to measure both values and would expect JD follows industry standards.

Sounds simple, but have the parking brake and pedal brakes checked to be sure they are not dragging. Dealer should be able to check pto hp to see if engine is problem. If engine smokes black when loaded, it is getting fuel and is probably ok.
