Chief, have the FS110R myself. California requires such due to emission standards. You would like it. Lots of power at low rpm especially nice when feathering throttle for landscape trimming. Very quiet. Not heavy enough to bother me. Also have chain saw attachment for light tree trimming and hedge attachment. Both work well. Like all Stihl equipment bulletproof and "wants" to start right up and run all day.

Watching Discovery Channel where crop circles are the topic. Discussion covers known hoaxes, the inexplicable, scientific theory, etc. The very next day I see previously unnoticed areas within my upper field of barley laid over in a number of oddly shaped areas. Barley at that was about two feet high, yet to be cut. <br>
Stranger still, none of the areas showed any entry point from the perimeter of the field where grain stood tall and unbent. Property fenced and gated. No previous foot traffic, loose livestock or frolicsome dogs. Any similar experiences? Just wondering.

Concur on Stihl dealer. Have a great one in my area too. Honest advice, walk right up to the shop, ask a question, get it done now. Parts at the ready and get-it-back service. As to Stihl products they are well engineered with power curve beginning at low rpms. Really helps with reduce the noise during protracted periods of use. More often a blip of the throttle will do. Power at low rpm means less vibration as well. And they always, always start. Best feature for non professional users who may put equipment down for a week or two.

Richard, it sounds like you have have lots of good advice for small stumps. What your post brought to mind however was my cousin Kenny's approach to stumps of a larger variety. A licensed blaster, Kenny has popped stumps, dropped silos, you name it with judicious placement of the proper amount of dynamite. It is plain amazing what these guys can do.

Thanks Chief. I did download the manual in advance of delivery. The dealer has uncrated the tiller and has done initial oil fill and lubrication. I will regardless give it a good looking over before I try it for the first time and check torques to specs.

Just took delivery of my 50th birthday present to myself- a JD 790 with 419 loader and L4 mower. Purchased rear hydraulics as well thinking of use with a box scraper.

Mowed about an two acres yesterday of undulating field and had to constantly adjust mower height. As this is my first tractor, actually first time aboard a tractor I was a bit apprehensive about "mower sounds" as small rocks were picked up-hope I haven't ruined my new mower. Felt a bit guilty.

Any words of advice regarding getting started with field work would be appreciated. All I have is a new John Deere hat, a manual and a few acres faced with complete ignorance.

Have been looking at a new JD 790 4WD priced at $11689 plus $2715 for a JD 419 bucket. So far so good. The dealer has strongly suggested however adding 3 way hydrolics for ease of use for box scraper and other implements. Price of this addition $1850. Dealer says adding same will be "twice as much later"(?).

Do I want this feature added and why? Would use this tractor for a modest 2 acres of field work and for horse stable and arena maintanance.
