I have a JD790 also, now around 175 hours, 2000 model year. Dealer has provided me 2 replacement positive battery cables (under warranty), both times the clamp portion was eaten up. I found it easier to take him the cable and replace it myself instead of taking the tractor to him or taking off time to wait for him to come to me. I have also had trouble with the battery losing charge after sitting a while. Just replaced it with a DieHard this past weekend. Used a Diehard because it was free when I replace the tires on our mini van. Mini van already had a less than year old battery.
