My 2003 2500hd, 6 speed, gets 19-20 around town and anywhere from 20-22 on the highway. Has anyone modified their fuel fill spout to accept the larger fuel nozzle? This really bugs me I fuel our VW Golf TDI (48-52mpg) which does accept the larger nozzle.

I had some concrete left over from a wall so I filled my ball. box about 3/4 of the way full. I was originally worried it would weigh to much full -but as it worked out I like the 6-8 inchs of space between the conc and the top of the ball. box. Currently it has a chain, one or two wrenchs a couple of pop cans and some other "junk" in it. Make sure when you unhook it its in a nice level spot. Much easier to reattach.

I think D_C_B gave a pretty good eval of the 790 and compacts in general. Personally, I picked my 790 for the value and intended use. Mowing pasture and cleaning horse stalls. Plus I have not touched a wheelbarrow in over a year! Anyway, its a simple dated dependable design. Less features = less to go wrong. I am 5'10" and I think the cockpit is a little cramped. The tranny is not the most efficient. The machine is a little light (I also filled my tires). Lets face it plastic and wingnut should not be used in the same sentence. That said I am very satisfied and would not trade it. When I first got it I thought it was a little small but after a year I think I will have it for another 19 or so. With the hundred hours per year that I put on, it ought to make it. Good luck.

Rick, I live at about 700 feet elev. I did not cut to lenght the two largest logs before skidding as I wanted to see if the 790 would pull them. It did but I was on the edge(probably over) of reasonable use. I have run a JD 440 skidder and just got in the mode. Pine can be surprisingly heavy when wet especially the big stuff. I did sit on a 990 and just decided I did not need that much tractor. The 790 does everything I need and is small enough to be manuverable in tight spots plus I have access to larger machines if I need them. I really don't think you can go wrong either way.
