the Eicher is a good choice it has a nice air cooled engine and is a realible tractor. I would steer away from the uses Deutz that doesn't sound to much like a good deal. Mark has a good point also have you checked the cost of a new JD engine

I would think some good implements for you would be a 5' bushhog and a boxblade if you want to level land or push up brush. With 15 acres I would go with at least a 30 - 50hp tractor. That should be plenty to start out with in time you will figure out what else you would need.

I would say no less than 35hp You will be glad to have the extra hp in the long run. You can fine some good used tractors out there. Plus I would get a tractor with a loader, cutter and a box blade and you would be about set

This is an old topic so you might not get a reply but, I sell the speeco digger and they are a sound digger we hardly ever have a problem with one. If you are looking for a post hole digger I would go with a speedco.

The dirt scoop is a real good inexpensive way to move loose material. The dirt scoop can be a very handy piece of equipment to have on your farm if you don't have a loader. I have the howse dirt pan in stock and I have a great price on them just drop me an email if you are interested

Murf has a point there isn't much difference between a 4ft and 5ft plus the price isn't going to be much higher. So you might what to check into the 5ft and that should give you some more choices. I have a few 4fts but 5fts are so much better for the price. Bush hog is a good brand name and befco makes I nice unit too check into parts access for both units to see about the price and availibility on the parts. Good luck with whatever unit you choose

I would listen to Mark here. The 15' is way too much and a 11' is pushing it. with only mowing 7 acres I would go much smaller. A good 6' or 7' would work wonders and if it is flat and not to rough I would even look into a finish mower.

I would steer away from the northern books it's somewhat cheeper made tractors. For your situation I would look for something used before smaller you will need about 30+ hp anything less and you will drive yourself nuts when you go looking for equipment. You can find good used tractors anywhere Check out Fastline mag or Fastline.com. Make sure to check out plenty of tractors. Make sure to check and see about parts for the tractor and service. If you go new make sure you can get warrenty work done close by you don't want to have to take it to another state everytime something goes wrong. We have been dealing with the Eicher tractor for a couple of years and it seems to be a nice tractor for the money.

This all sounds good. and there is a lot that goes into if it can or can't. Mrethics has it right try it and see what happens. You can always go in a lower gear and take your time move slow and easy don't try to dig to deep at first and if it can't pull it remove a blade and try again. Everything in farming is an art and all farmers have a different way of painting that picture. Just try it and see what happens you can always back up and try again.

TomG was right, I believe that a box blade will be good enough to do most of your work. If you are planning to dig a lot of holes with your tractor you might want a 30+ horse tractor.

On that JD cutter did you ask them how much it would cost without the green paint. JD buys there equipment paints it green and marks it up 60%. This is true to you JD lover's.
Howse makes a good cutter for cheap. Kodiak is another good cutter I have been happy to sell you should check them out a tough cutter and not very expensive. King Kutter has a ok cutter their paint doesn't last long and rust will come soon after that but the cutter itself isn't too bad.

I deal with some of howse's dirt scoops. They are built tough and seem to last. I've seen some of King Kutters work and it doesn't impress me much. the other two I don't know anything about. Using a Scoop isn't very hard it might take a few to get use to, but it's quite simple. Don't plan on taking 5" or 6" of dirt up at a time it's a slow process but it's cheap and works. I used a dirt scoop and a 5ft disc to dig my first pond. I would run the disc around the pond and weight it down some to get the dirt loose then i used the dirt scoop to remove the dirt. took some time but it was worth it.

I wasn't trying to trash anyone. I was talking about the cheap price not the cheap equipment. My other point was the parts you have to make sure that you can get parts for the tractor you are buying and in a timely manner. Some of the tractors coming from overseas don't have parts that come along with them and it makes for a task of getting parts for your tractor.

Has any one purchased a kodiak and how do you like it?

We have started selling this cutters and so far no problems and they seem to be a nice cutter but i would like to have some opinions on them.

Ok Sitrex is a really good FM also you can get one that is 90" that would cut down on some of your time. We have one that we use to clean up the lot and use a 35hp tractor to pull it. Parts are not too hard to get hold of either.

Sitrex is a really nice Finishing mower a little bit pricey but worth it. I have been a dealer for a few years and we have had really good luck with them compared to the other brands of FM that we handle parts are easy to get hold of most of the time. Check out our site and look into sitrex FM. Sitrex also has been around for a long time. They also make a hay rake,tedder, and a few other attachments
