I am fairly new as a tractor owner. I did a great deal of research and narried the choices to green, orange, and blue. Then I started visiting the dealers and trying the tractors and tools I needed. Even tho I could get a better price on the Internet, I wanted to use a local dealer who would be there when I needed help. I chose orange because the dealer was willing to explain the various goods and bads of each color. And did a good job at it in words that meant something to a future tractor user. And it felt/rode better to me and the wife than the blue. And I was treated better than at the green.

People buy from people. I would rather someone tellme they do not know than to try and snow me or 'sell me' the line. I paid more but I am very sure it has already been worth it. And will continue to be.

It differs by policy. My home policy is with State Farm in MD but the tractor is located on my property in VA financed withthat special Kubota deal last year. I just called and it is completely covered once I gave them the details like serial #, etc. So is the shed it is stored in. I was looking around into other companies and most of them would not support like State Farm.

I suggest go ride them both! Then pick the one that feels best in the seat. Although I agree they are both too much for 5 acres. I chose the 3130 'cause that is where I got the best feel and the best deal. BTW, you might use the internet to look at prices - gave an edge when negotiating.

I looked at both and got the L3130HST. I have now put about 30 hours on it. I have planted about 220 trees, bushhogged about 2 acres, and leveled my 2000'+ driveway. The HST is worth the money for me. I generally stay in M and only adjust the throttle and the peddle. My wife uses my tractor some and she loves the HST - not hard to learn or to use.

I now have about 10 hours on my 3130. It has only used about 3 gallons of diesel, is very quiet, and very powerful. I have dug about 1oo tree holes with the 24" auger, bushhogged a couple of acres, and moved several 10' long 2-3' feet in diameter logs with a chain. My property is not level but the 3130 goes everywhere and I have even pulled a truck out of a ditch with it.

This is my first real tractor - but so far it is fun and excellent. I thought about the 3830 but did not need the extra power. And those little Grand L user friendly features mean I still have the power to dippy-do with my lady. And I am hitting the double-nickel in a month.

My only concern: I am a newbie with real tractors - if you are, make very good friends with your dealer and his employees - they can make a serious difference particularly with all my stupid questions.

I just took delivery of a L3130. I decided on what I needed and then got four quotes: one from NY (great price but big delivery charge to VA), one in VA that was way out of line, one in NC (great price and inexpensive delivery) and one in VA (ok price but local and no delivery but state tax). I prefer local so shared the differences with him without identifying the bidders. He met the lowest cost. I may not have gotten the absolute bottom price but I am sure that the relationship over time will be better.

And I agree with Art White. You will live or die with the local dealer - I recommend treating him as a partner. BTW, get to know the owner not the saleman!!

I just took delivery of my 3130 this weekend and used the 6' bush hog on about three acres. My only problem was the top hitch of the hog was wider than the pin I had. The grass was last year's, wet, and really thick and I had no problem at all. I didnot even rev the tracor up to high speed - just took my time.

In NH and Maryland you have to put the nets on down to the ground - ravens will go under the net and jump into the bushes. And they are smart enough to know the cats will not jump on the nets!!

Here in Maryland deer seem to eat everything but weeds and grass. We use several sprays like DeerAway that seem to work but they smell like a skunk buried in 9 day old fish entrails. You do NOT want that stuff on you. It rains off BUT it works. But I would not put it near the house.

I have also put chicken wire flat on the ground around my orchard - they will jump the 3' but seem to go around the 6 foot - not sure why. Rock salt in a shot gun works for awhile but you have to repeat about every two weeks - deer are dumb. GOOD LUCK.

The L3130. Difference was $1300 and dealer delivers with fluid in tires. I liked the larger frame, power, niceties as my wife will occasionally drive it as I work with it. For the money, it was the best deal. I probably only needed the 30HP but as Tim Allen always says: more power!!
