When I had my 1530 NH, it was inoperative in cold weather. It has the same technology as a hood or liftgate prop on a car/truck utilizing a gas charged cylinder to lock the tilt mechanism. One day when I went to make the adjustment, the rod that enters the top of the cylinder (what you can see looking down on the cylinder) blew the seal and shot pressurized fluid on my face. Luckily I had my glasses on or it would have been in my eyes sure enough. (the fluid sprayed out in one very quick spurt, and I would never have had enough time to blink) It was still in warranty at that time, so it didn't cost to have it fixed. Just glad I didn't lose my eyesight. I still think that rod mechanism should have some kind of shield over it to deflect the oil from spraying on anyone else. This is a very real life situation and I would like to warn other people to think twice about leaning/looking downwards at that mechanism when tilting the wheel on the baby boomers if it still is built that way.

Brent, yes they do install a larger pump. They also install new p/s lines, which are fairly hard to get at according to my dealer. He said that they underestimated the actual installation time due to the pump/line installation. Make sure that you check the turn angle from lock to lock. Mine and several other posters have mentioned that the axle turns much sharper to the right than to the left due to a misadjusted toe setting after installation. I think the new axle is the best thing that has happened to my tractor. No scuffing when mowing in 2x4 now.

Bill, I had a 1530 NH that had the same condition. I was constantly straightening the rods. The only thing that helped was to lather the rod with anti-seize compound, but the only downfall was that the mowing chaff would start to stick to the rod after a few minutes of mowing. But at least the rod didn't bend so often. Why did you trade the 1530 away to get the TC33? What does the '33 have that the 1530 didn't? I had several issues with mine that got me disgusted enough to rid myself of it 2 years ago. One issue was lack of power in any gear, it smoked profusely, and the loader lift capacity was lame. I had to feather the hydro in the lowest gear when I was dipping into a dirt/gravel pile so it wouldn't stall the engine or hydro, then I could usually only fill the bucket 1/2 way or it wouldn't lift up. I think it mowed much better than the JD4300 belly mower that I currently have, but the JD has a much better loader capacity than the NH did. I NEVER used rear ballast on the NH as it would stall the lift arms out way before I felt light in the rear. (I did have fluid in the tires) With the JD, I purchased the weight box from my dealer and filled it to the top with concrete and it still feels light in the rear sometimes. I would be curious to know your response.

Shawn, I believe you read that from me. When they put my axle on in June, I also told them about my 3rd scv being stiff and did not return properly. They said they put a revised part on it to repair that concern. It works perfectly now with the exception of the rubber knob falling off. I tried lubing the cable and loosening the lever's pinch bolt, but it did absolutely nothing for the feel of the lever. Whatever it was that they replaced (lever, cable or both) works GREAT! Now, another question for thoughts..... Does anyone have the abrupt stop problem? When I am mowing, I let off my pedal and it stops like I slammed on the brakes. No feathering to a stop, just BANG. It is pretty difficult to mow around a tree or object because it jerks when going on/off the pedal. I mow in B range almost all the time. I don't believe it did this when it was new. Any feedback would be great. Thanx

Bud, when I was at a Chrysler new car announcement meeting a couple of years ago, they said they were actually including the battery in the equation for impact or energy absorption when they engineer the new vehicles. I asked them if they were worried about the amount of corrosion on the terminals, and their response was "better to save a life than a couple of cheap battery terminals". That is true, but for us in the dealership, those batteries are a bear to replace! Just my 3 cents worth
