FWIW- I sold the Ventrac 3000 I had back to the factory 5 years ago. A friend of mine bought one last year and he's not happy with all the problems he's had, especially the bearing on the center pivot that's failed repeatedly.

Why not look at the 2210 that is coming out in November or December? It has the same size tires as the X595 but with the features of the 4xxx series. It only appeared in Deere's website for a few days but is still listed under the 'Build & Price' option. Base price for just the tractor w/ 4wd, cat 1 Ltd 3pt, 23hp diesel, mid & rear pto was about $10,200.00

I recently bought a 40 loader and found one in Winterset, IA., one in Geneseo, IL., one in Lake City, FL, and one in West Plaines, MO. Prices ranged from $2,500 to $2,900. Also found a KwikWay loader in Elizabeth, IL. for $1,000

I work for a Deere dealer, and in the past, worked for a dealer that handled Deere & Kubota. Like the old saying goes "You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time." Each person has their own likes and dislikes when it comes to tractors and we need to accept that. I'll admit I'm partial to Deere (worked almost 20 years on JD L&G) but I'll also be the first to admit that the Kubota BX has its' niche market place. Past experience has shown Deere has a better product support network but both companies build good products.

With all this said, I'm in the market for a tractor like the Kubota BX but don't want the large size of the Deere 4100. My problem is that I need a tractor NOW, not when Deere starts production of the new "X" series tractors in mid-March of 2002. I've only seen pictures of the new "X" series Deere and it looks similar to the BX. From what I was told by one of our salesmen, Deere realizes that the "X" series and the 4100 aren't the answer to the Kubota BX series. Supposedly, there are more new models coming, even after Deere has revised the 4100 and is introducing a 4010 compact utility. I've been quoted a price of $12,099.00 for a BX2200 with bar tires, 54 mower deck, and a front loader. After looking at the BX, even a die hard JD man such as myself has to take a serious look at the Kubota BX.

I used to sell John Deere L&G equipment as an outside salesman. This meant being the aggressor so to speak so you can't go trying to sell & be arrogant about it. If someone was interested in equipment, I supplied them with the information they wanted. Be it just a simple question, or a serious price quote. Many times I was warned by my boss for spending too much time with people and not getting sales contracts. It took about a year of hard work, but the sales started rolling in. Now that I'm out of sales and on the other side of the fence, I agree a lot of sales people do have an attitude problem. I'm looking to get my money's worth, so I'll look at any brand and won't accept a salesman isn't wanting to actively sell equipment.

Do these tractors articulate? I didn't know New Holland or John Deere made articulated compact tractors. Got any information on them? This is the articualted tractor section isn't it?

To G in Ohio: I know the the Steiner brothers aren't dozing because I've been to the plant and seen the operation, impressive. I was curious to know if they got the larger building they were looking at. It had been a while since anyone had posted here and just wanted to make sure to liven things up (hee, hee). Stan

I have a Ventrac 3000 with a 52 inch mower, 30 inch front scoop, & 60 inch blade. I'm impressed on how well it does pushing snow with no weights, chains, or fluid in the tires, just bar tires all the way around.

As a former JD Consumer Products mechanic, I've had to rebuild several 55 series front ends. From what I have seen, it appears that when using the loader, people inadvertently end up with the front wheels off the ground at times. After noticing this, they lower the wheels back onto the ground while still trying to dig, sometimes jamming the front wheels back to the ground. The proof is the damage done to the snap ring groove for the bearings in the knuckle casting. If you take a close look at the design of the axle pivot area, you'll notice that the tractor is supported by the short vertical stub drive shaft, which is not a very good design in my opinion. I owned a 655 with loader and had oversize tires on it and with over 560 hours & no failure, it's because I was careful not to drop the front wheels on the ground, especially when trying to dig, and I worked the tractor well above the limits that Deere had in mind for it.
