I too find this a interesting subject. I grew up around, and have always had at least one 4x4 around. Jeep's, trucks, ect.

The first thing we ever do is add a full cage on to the roll bar on open top vehicles like Jeep CJ5, Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, ect. We usually have done our own, or take them to a 4x4 shop to have it done.

I have not heard of lawsuits coming back on the owner or the shop who built the cage addition. In the case of many trucks, a complete cage is added inside the cab. The local shop that I deal with builds roll bars and cages all the time. Often they are building the complete system from scratch.

I am fine with my ROPS, but would not hesitate to work on it to fit my needs. I would however, advise the use of a certified welder.

You may want to look at tire options. I have found that turf tires tend to be significantly wider than Ag or R4 tires for a given application. The wider foot print of a turf tire would give you better overall stability in most cases.

I'm in Northern California, Shingle Springs, 'bout 30 minutes east of Sacramento.

I bought my tractor at Gold country Kubota in Auburn. That's a little out of your way(good folks though!). I don't have the number handy, not in our book either...
Sacramento Ford carries Kubota and New Holland(916-454-4444).
Dolk Tractor in Rio Vista advertises Kubota(707-374-6438).

One of those should be able to point you in the right direction.

Bird, a cast iron V-twin? My alloy Evolution works really well, especially since I put the Super-E on it. Oh, you mean compressors, I was thinking bikes :-)

Have you seen the kit for volkswagen engines? A couple years ago I saw it in Hot-VW's. You take a complete VW Flat 4cylinder engine, and take the head off of one side. You put in it's place a modified head setup to use two cylinders as the "compressor". The other two cylinders ran off a normal intake and carb.

The VW is air cooled, self enclosed. al it needed was a fuel supply and a stand for the engine, which you could buy also.

The output from this thing was pretty darned good, but I don't remember the numbers now.

A couple of thoughts on compressers...
Get one that works on 220v. It's a pain when you blow a 120v-15a breaker every time you run the thing. Most garages have wimpy wiring, unless you've made improvements. No matter what you get, don't mess with extension cords, it's a good way to ruin a motor. Get plenty of hose! Remember you can get gas motor driven compressors too. Bird Senter made some good points about oil free vs cast oiled machines.

For justification, you can air up the kids bike tires, blow off the driveway, blow off the deck, air the tires on car, truck, tractor, boat trailer, use impact wrench, spray gun, blow the dog hair ball out of the vacuum, run air sander, and more!

Blazer(maybe Blaser) used to make a light bar just like you guys are talking about for 4x4 trucks, Jeeps(Rule #1!) and such. It had forward lights, lights facing back, and I believe side lights. It looked very much like the lite bars on a police car. If I remember right, they had 100w or 150w lights.

If these guys are still around, they would probably be a good setup for a tractor. The bulbs would have to be changed to 50w, considering the alternater on most small tractors.

They were designed for a Jeep or truck, so the may be a bit on the wide side.

I'll look for the info in some of the magazines I have this weekend.

I did look in Gall's. They had EMS, Police and Fire stuff but not utility stuff.

I was just going to take some pictures during lunch. It's simple to do, so what the heck. I'll still take a peek at my oil, just out of curiosity.

I have a Kubota B8200HST-D, 19hp with 523 hours. I did a full fluid change at 500 hours, so my Delo-400 only has 23 hours on it. Old oil is already recycled.

I have not checked my home email today to see if anone responded. I'll still give this a try, again, just for curiousities sake.

Too bad the SEM's I have access to are high vacuum systems; it'd be interesting to do some WDX/EDX analysis on a sample!

You could try a local off-road/4x4 shop. They could refer you to a metal fab shop that builds rollbars.

It wouldn't be factory, but then too they could build it to suit your tastes.

Shops like this build rollbars/cages for trucks, Jeeps, Bronco's ect all the time.
Granted, it would not be a factory unit, but when one is not available from the factory, custom might be the only way.

I put a Optima in my truck for when I have the camper on. It takes a good four day weekend of running interior lights without a problem.<br>My Brother-in-Law has them in his Jeep. He has run them low while winching. still cranked the engine over and recharged nicely.<br>In fact, he had a winch battery cable rub through on his grille. Smoke, sparks, excitement. They got the battery disconnected, let things cool down, and then reconnected. Still turned the engine over and recharged fine.<br>Of course it helps that he has a welder/alternator combo made to do impressive charging at low RPM, unlike most compacts tractors with dinky alternators and generators.

Betcha a local muffler shop would only charge a few bucks to put a quick bend in the end of the pipe, so it would have it's original bend with angle cut.

But the Suzuki would still just be a take off of a Harley. Rode em all, there aint nothing like the real thing. Oh, and Harley Stock is doing better than the others too.<br>It is flattering though that the other manufacturers try so hard to copy Harley, Indian, ect. <br>I have friends that own them(embarassingly enough, I rode them for a couple years before I got a real bike). They are nice bikes. It's better that they ride wannbe's than not. But, that's it, they are wannabe's, any way you look at it.<br>Oh well, what does this have to do with tractors! If I did, it would be to make a stronger unit that protected more of the tractor.<br>My point is more about how people are extreme about this in regards to tractors, but not so in other facets of the

I wouldn't have a Jeep, Land cruiser, Samurai, Amigo ect without puting in a front cage. Sure, the factory builds the standard rollbar for all the necessary stress, but without a front cage, the windshield frame crushes in a roll-over. My Jeep has a front cage added to it, as well as having the original roll bar modified so it makes a complete rear cage to protect my 5 year old. And, it has additional mount points added so it doesn't tear out of the body in a roll over.
But, to come on to these tractor boards and suggest anything like that and it gets a totally different reception.
I grew up around Jeep's and short track stock cars. Most of the time there was no choice but to build our own stuff. A couple of the stock cars hit the wall pretty hard, but the cage always held up. Seen a 4x4 or two go over that would not have held up as well without modifications to the roll bar.
