My wife runs a small horse farm with 25+ acres of pasture to mow. Being a horse farm, she wants a manicured look. I recently purchased a slightly used Land Pride 2584 since the pasture was grass only, no brush or trees. After mowing this weekend, the result was "tremendous". It looks as if it were vacuumed, and for once, the wife is happy with me. It sure helped that I used a JD4710 instead of our older JD4300. The extra power made a lot of difference. I've got an almost new John Deere two-stage snowblower, Model 924DE that I need to sell. It has been used in only two snows (the paint is still intact on the blades). What is it worth? Any help is appreciated.

Jim, I also have a horse farm (wife runs it, I pay) with similar outside arena and JD4300 and once had too much sand. The best way to move the sand was with FEL. You said you thought it was too expensive, but my wife would be lost without hers. She uses it when cleaning stalls (just tosses manure in bucket, then can stack it really high), she uses it when stacking hay or moving hay to pasture, uses it to carry gravel to patch gravel road, uses it to move snow (we live in Iowa). The FEL is well worth the investment.

Thanks for all the input that I received on this thread. I elected to get a year old Land Pride FDR2584 ($1500). My JD4300 has just enough power for it (certainly not too much), but my pasture is flat and only grass. I put it at maximum height and so far results are great. I do have to slow down in really thick grass, but so far have not had to overlap my cut. It has high lift blades and it really sucks up a dust cloud when in areas of little grass. It is important to keep the blades sharp. I'll try this for awhile and see how it works.

Yes, I use two compact tractors currently.

1. I mow 3 acres of yard and 28 acres of grass pasture for horses.
2. Tractor for yard is B7200 HST, Tractor for pasture is JD4300 HSD w/FEL
3. MMM 60" for B7200, Befco 6' rotary cutter for pasture on JD4300
4. Kubota is great, I picked it up cheap and can sell at any time. The pasture cutter leaves a section of uncut grass on right side of mower (6" uncut, 6" in), so I have to overlap my cut at least a foot to get a good cut. This greatly slows down the mowing of pasture. I am looking at a 84" Land Pride finishing mower for pasture to get a better and bigger cut. I hope the JD4300 can spin it.

JD4300, 4wd, 315 hrs, front end loader, R4 tires, HSD for sale, $ 17000 (excellent shape). Also LandPride 60" finishing mower used only one fall for $1200. I am looking for the biggest hp tractor with HSD. When I checked on price of Kubota L4610 I was told it was being replaced this Sep with a newer model. Anyone have any info on its replacement? Also, what is my best bet for a larger hp tractor with HSD? Thanks in advance.

Anyone had experience with this flail mower? I've got 30 acres of horse pasture to mow and the wife would like a better finish after mowing than the rotary cutter is giving. Only have grass to mow. Will this do the trick? I've currently got a JD 4300, is that enough tractor? Any idea on price for a good condition used 25A? Thanks in advance.

I know this may be a simple question, but what is the best way to sharpen the blades on my 5' rotary cutter? I would prefer to not have to remove the blade and sharpen while attached. But do you use a grinder disk on a drill or what? What type of grinder disk? The pasture I have to mow is just medium density grass, no saplings or small trees. Thanks in advance.
