The cat thing is true. One day I noticed our male cat had peed all over the house. Just littel dribbles here and there. My first thought was to feed him to my neighbor's dog, but instead I brought him down to the vet, who gave me some expensive medicine, and some even more expensive prescription cat food. I had been feeding him Imes (sp?), which I thought was the good stuff, but apparently it was only cloging him up. So end result is a happy healthy but very expensive cat, and monthly trips to the vet to buy this expensive food.

I still drink beer and pee on the trees....

Murf, your point is well taken, but lets just assume that the joy of playing with a new tractor overrules the economics and or practicality of the matter. Is there a method that will work?

Heres a little more food for thought. If a tire were filled to the top, then the COG of the ballast would be right at the axle, but no higher. So, liquid ballast could never cause the center of gravity of the tractor as a whole to rise above the axle. If the COG of a tractor is below the axle to begin with, then a fully ballested tire whose COG is at the axle would cause the COG of the tractor to rise, but still not above the axle. If the COG of a tractor is above the axle to begin with, then any ballast in the tires can only lower the COG of the tractor.

Going back to Mark's point about the fulcrum, a tractor would become unstable enough to roll once the COG of the tractor becomes located downhill from the fulcrum - in this case the contact point between the downhill tire and the ground. The ballasting works because the torque implied by the uphill tire (mass x distance from pivot)far exceeds the torque implied by the downhill tire as the tractor start to roll.

I would have to agree that a fully ballasted tire does more to increase stability than a partially ballasted tire.

Bear in mind that my experience is more of a theoretical physics based one, than that of actuall tractor experience.....although i did flip a toro riding lawn mower over backwards once.....

I guess I am leaning toward the hot air, which is what I have now. From what I have heard, there seams to be a stigma about air, IE hot water is the "Upscale" way to heat. However I like the hot air system I have now because with the humidifier set up properly, and the air filter kept clean, our indoor enviroment is quite cozy and clean. My brother has an air system with an intake hood just above his woodstove. He and his wife hate the system because of the dust, but I believe they have no filter!! And the wood stove is in the cellar, so the intake is always sucking up dust! I cant understand why the installer didnt put in an in line filter. (Must have been more money)

In my house now, we have a vermont Castings woodburning insert that I installed in an existing double sided fireplace opening. We can easily heat the entire house with it (It puts out 40,000 BTU's and burns wood at something like 79% efficiency if the catalyst after burner is kicked off correctly). Sometimes I will run the furnace blower just to circulate the air. It would probably be more effective if my return grill was not in the floor.

The only problem with my current air system is the noise. Does anybody have some tips on how to cut down the noise? Maybe the ducts are too small? Or should there be some sort of isolator between the supply plenum and the furnace?

Also, has anybody else rigged up duct work to suck in the hot air from near a woodstove to circulate around the house?

thanks Bird, I can see why it would be a nice feature. This is one more reason why I may go with the B2410 over the B7500!

Morgan, it was actually 11,900 for the B7500 with FEL and turfs. So $100 difference. Maybe the turf tires are a little more?
