I'd probably start by looking at the drive belt and making sure it's in good shape and doesn't have anything slippery on it like oil.

In case anyone stumbles on this later on- I found the problem.

There are two blackish wires going to the stator on the underside of the flywheel cover near the bottom frame. One of those had gotten knocked out.

I can take pictures if anyone needs.
