I would like to know if the AG tire is standard for the L2800 and L3400 and the price difference for the R4 upgrade if any.

how important is draft control for implements like blades, box scrapers and mowers ? I'm looking at a L2800 with no draft control and I'm told none available.

I am looking for comments good are bad on the Farm King 60" rear discharge, rear mount mowers. They are priced well below woods and landpride, and JD rear mounts. My JD dealer sells the Farm King. If anyone has experience with the Farm King I'd appreciate your feedback. I will be using it with JD 4100.

I believe you got such a poor trade value on your 445 is because this is a garden tractor, not considered a compact by any means. I traded in a 15 year old compact with 750 hrs. and got over $4,700, this was more than tractor cost 15 yrs ago.

I have just purchased JD4100, Can someone tell me where this tractor is built (or assembled). I know JD literature says the 4200-4500's are built in Augusta, Georgia, but no mention of where the 4100's are put together.

Have you considered using a three point hitch disc
mower? They are similar to the old sickle bar mowers,
but use rotating discs with small knives attatched. I
don't think a compact tractor will handle one, but a 2150
will. I think most of the hay equipment companys will have
one pictured on their webb sites.

I just bought TC21D and the dealer also sold me a 5' rear discharge bush hog finish mower. I mow about 3 hilly acres. I also found it a little too much for the TC21D. I returned the mower and plan to buy a Land Pride 4' rear discharge,I think the model # is FDR1549.

i am thinking of getting a 5 ft finishing mower. do you think the tc21d will pull it or should i stick with a 4 ft. my 1120 did well to pull the 4 ft.

What ever tiller you buy make sure it's a reverse rotation (not a climber). Kubota tillers a very good tillers and hold up well. The blades can be changed easily as well. If you are serious and don't want to "play" get the rverse rotation. It will either pull up the ground or pull your tractor into the ground. The standard tillers "skip" along the top of the ground when it's hard. Expect to pay new around $3,200. Believe me, it's worth it.

I have an L4310 with the factory cab and the 681 loader. As for the treadle for the hydrostatic tranny, it seems like an OK way to do things but I did have to get used to it. It lets you have very precise control. One thing on mine though is that the treadle starts to take on an engine frequency vibration at rpm settings close to PTO speed. This vibration becomes very noticeable and quite irritating. I've complained to the dealer about it but he has no clue what to do. As for the 681 loader, it seems to have plenty of lift capacity. But the control valve on mine is a joystick that operates cables to the valve. It is the worst arrangement I have ever used. You have to push the handle sideways to roll the bucket which is typical. But the force required to simply move the lever sideways is excessive to put it mildly. With the lever forward it is impossible to also move sideways. The John Deere loader control is much easier to operate. I would rather have two levers than this arrangement. I think the problem is because they use cables on this control and rather strong springs in the valve. It's also possible that my cables are binding in some way. I'll be asking the dealer to look into both of these issues when the tractor goes in for the 50 hour service. The factory cab on this tractor is absolutely super. As far as I know Kubota is the only company that offers a cab of this quality. It was one of the main reasons for my choosing this model over JD 4500/4600.

Here's two examples of where I wanted a hydraulic center link: When operating a three point mounted snow blower, if you have to go down a road surface which abruptly pitches upward. Such as where a somewhat steep driveway intersects with the main road. The augers on some snow blowers will contact the pavement at that point. Being able to pitch the machine back at that point will keep it paralell with the pavement. Another use would be with a box scraper. The scarafier teeth could be set to cut in or not cut in depending on the position of the centerlink. Granted you won't get as deep of engagement of the scarifiers as can be had by manually adjusting them but it beats the heck out of manual resets.

You may be familiar with the term "ackermann steering" which refers to what you are calling toe out. This steering gear geometry was originally worked out by by Rudolf Ackermann who was a coach builder in the early 1800's. His design angles the arms that turn the stub axles inwards towards the rear. It results in the inside wheel angling further that the outside during a turn, thereby reducing tire scrub. It looks to me like the arms that turn the stub axles should be turned in enough to align with the center of the rear axle. BL

Dave, Is the tractor a L245DT-2 4wd ? The serial # sequence 60966 indicates it is a 1980 L245DT-2 and the avg. auction price for this model is $6399. Where as a L245DT 1980 model is avg. auction price is $5239. Hope this helps.

You would be much better off adding just a $1000 or so and getting 4100 what your asking 455 to do with front blade will not work very well, not enough weight.
