Seems like a good price for a well-kept tractor with nice set of implements. Mike, how do you like the 380 front blade? I just purchased a turf-tired JD955 and found a used 380 front blade. Haven't attached it (don't have a manual for it yet either) but I'm anxious to find out how useful it might be.

I had seen similar mentions in posts. Not to throw cold water on your idea, but let me relate a little tidbit I heard when I was shopping for a Boomer. I mentioned a smoke screw adjustment to a NH dealer after noticing smoke on startup. (I've come to the conclusion, at least in my limited experience, this is fairly normal among most tractors I've seen.) He said that owners shouldn't be making this adjustment. That it's factory set and any tinkering with it can affect your horsepower. I'm just passing it on for what it's worth, one dealer's opinion.

This thread has sort of developed a life of its own after I originally posted in August. Sorry I haven't posted sooner, but I have bought a tractor, a used JD955. Not quite in the same league as a JD4300 (though the HP is up there), but a good machine for me to develop skills with and to figure out whether tractoring is for me. Thanks to everyone for your help! I'll certainly call on you again as I regularly monitor this board for ideas and opportunities to contribute.

Did the suggestion about servicing the grease fitting for HST pedal shaft fix your problem? I'm thinking ahout buying a Boomer with same apparent problem. Has anybody else noticed/fixed problem by the means noted or other?

As I intimated, I'm in the market for a Boomer 29 or 33 (D with SS). I have seen some used ones in the market, some with low hours but nearly expired warranties. From my perusal of the tractor boards, it seems like this model is fairly trouble free (but obviously a new line), aside from the steering column problem you indicated. Should I be concerned? Were there any bugs cleared up between the 1999 and 2000 models? (I'm looking at a 1999.)

How do you mount the 84" mower? Does it slide in from the side (and if so with how much effort) or do you drive over it with the front end like I've read here you can do with some Kubota/mower combinations?

Is a New Holland Boomer tractor eligible for an Ford A/Z plan discount. My wife, as a relative of a retired Ford employee, helped us by a Ford truck below dealer cost (without the usual haggling!), hoping the same is true for New Holland tractor. Can someone please let me know? Thanks!
